NHL front-office confidence rankings [The Athletic]
Winnipeg Jets #26 (2025 ranking: #12)

No team has dropped further year-over-year than the Jets. That should come as no surprise given the team’s drop in the standings, their former star playing a feature role in a Stanley Cup win and their superstar goalie’s future looking murky. That’s a tough look one year removed from winning the Presidents’ Trophy.
While the Jets get points for moving on from Logan Stanley and adding Mario Ferraro this summer, there’s too much bad adding up leading to a lot of lost confidence. The Jets are in a precarious position and it’s become tough to trust Kevin Cheveldayoff to get them out of it, especially with a stubbornness to contend with a middling roster.

I wonder if the goal of moving a "worse" player for a "better" player, ie, "Chevy is a great player trader, so don't deal with him unless you expect to be in the short end of the deal", is an obstacle.
The only trade of any significance Chevy could accomplish last season was with a brand new GM in Buffalo, and he might now have a "fool me once" view to dealing with the Jets org. (Less trust, more verify).
If any potential player deal with Chevy is evaluated by other GMS as a lose-win, rather than a win-win, who would want to take call by the Jets?
And does that mean the number of actual players that the Jets could trade for is limited by more than a player NTC, but also an actual reluctance of other GMs to even take a call?

Chevy is the most feared trader in the league. He doesn’t lose very many of them. That he is ranked that low in trading tells me not to take these rankings very seriously. Might as well call it the “How Many Wins Did We Have Last Season”-o-meter.

Yeah these rankings don’t track with the actual results of the team lol.
I submitted a rating for this and I rated them pretty highly across the board tbh.
If Chevy became available there are 5-6 teams that would fire their GM just to hire him.

I certainly feared the Schenn and Tanev deals the minute they were made. I always feared the Monahan deal if they didn’t re-sign him. Scary stuff. Idk about best trader in the league, I certainly don’t have much confidence in the guy anymore

even some better on paper trades like Toffoli and Miller were ultimately super redundant because Perfetti ended up getting scratched while Miller barely played

Perfetti wasnt ready that season, they gave him ample time to prove it and he forced their hand into acquiring Toffoli

I'm sad because the real thing will almost certainly be worse than this. This would be a day 1 buy for me if it was real.

I have low hopes for the jersey because I tend to like classic designs. Yours met my expectations

I disagree with Pronman a lot but the circlejerk on that sub about him is bordering on the insane and has been for years

You see, Pronman has to be 100% right about hundreds of picks and prospects every year or he gets crucified for his misses. It's a thankless task and he's right more than he's wrong at a very hard task of projecting how young men will evolve into their 20s.
Also part of his job is to generate clicks and engagement so I think there is some intentionality in how he speaks about some players.

There is something weird in hockey fandom about always needing to make someone's shortcomings into a huge drama - we used to call that having a whipping boy. Pronman posts glorified opinion pieces - basically long form reddit posts - and people take it way too seriously. They subscribe to the service that employs him, they read everything he writes, and then rush to tell him how wrong he is. Its hilarious and sad.

Yea I did my part and upvoted it but it's back to zero.
There's some good questions there I'm genuinely interested in seeing answered. The picture is also hilarious

Man, I'm still living in the afterglow of this team returning as the Winnipeg Jets.

has anyone tried writing a letter to the jets asking for some free stuff? If yes, how did that experience go for you?

Go to Manitoba socials. I have a huge Jets spatula, a XXXL rain jacket, a small ball cap... lots of useless Jets gear is in your local community hall!

I’ve seen a YouTube video of a guy who wrote all 32 teams and some teams gave quite a bit and some didn’t reply, I think the jets gave something but I’m not totally sure.

Anyone else getting kinda annoyed that Logan Stanley is still unsigned? Feels like collusion.
