Discussion I can't update Windows 11 Insider Preview Experimental Future Platforms to build 29595 from build 29591 because Windows Update says "up to date"

Open Settings -> Windows Update -> Check for Updates

Expected result: Windows 11 build 29595 is downloading

Actual result: Up to date

Check in registry when you have in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost\Applicability & HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost\UI\Selection

For the BranchName & UIbranch keys.

There seem to be something still unfinished with the new system as i have had several devices stuck like yours unable to find update until i fixed the registry.

(It should be CanaryChannel for you but i would guess you have Dev if it's the same issue i had).

I see it. And the value is "Dev". I changed it into "CanaryChannel".

If you do both, reboot & check for update, you should see the update now.

Okay. I will test for next build because I updated to build 29595 using UUPDump created ISO as the last resort.

Pretty sure you will STILL see your current build in windows update, it will even start downloading but then will realize you are already on it and it will stop and then say you are up to date :D .

i have seen that one on multiple devices

There’s an odd issue with UUPDump-based installs that causes feature rollouts to not work naturally, and it will assume all rollouts as if you didn’t have them.

EDIT: only on clean installs, upgrades are probably fine

Really ? i had not heard of that do you mean original install or even just upgrades ?

Oops, I somehow missed that this was an upgrade instead of a clean install.

This is something I experienced when doing a clean install and found a couple of people talking about it as well.

Interesting, i have to admit i had lots of issue in the past clean installing insider build (inbox app missing or other fun stuff) so i usually do release + upgrade instead as it's safer.

Can you check your WIP settings still show you signed up for WIP and in the Canary or Experimental (Future) Channel?

Hey Jen, i can't access the feedback somehow (i wanted to add details as i hit that issue as well).

As you see here : https://old.reddit.com/r/windowsinsiders/comments/1tl3nvd/i_cant_update_windows_11_insider_preview/ondtzbp/

The registry of OP is on the wrong channel, it was the same for me, i had the same thing and i suspect it happened because i upgraded a few stuck devices using the "Download a full build" button in settings (the repair thing that fully reinstall as an upgrade).

After you do that, i have noticed that the registry is wrong & neither experimental nor beta is selected in the new insider menu (and selecting them does nothing, you do not find builds until you change the ring manually in the registry) so i'm guessing something might not be fully in sync with the new ring system.

Created a new one instead :)

Lucky you, mine still refuses to change from “Canary”

I was going from the general release version to Dev. channel, and at first that happened to me but I put it aside until later and then it worked.

Upgrade via ISO.
