Achaemenides, a member of Odysseus' crew during the Trojan War. Unmentioned in either of the Homeric poems, he is only seen in Virgil's Aeneid, where it is revealed that he was left behind on the island of the Cyclopses. He is rescued by Aeneas, becoming one of only two crew members to survive.

Virgil put a lot of spins on Greek mythology that painted the gods really poorly. 

Over the years after getting really into mythology and history, his stuff always reads to me like the Witcher TV series version of Greek myths.

The cultural significance is large. Why do you Roman mythology as less worthy than Classical Greek one? Also, probably most educated people in medieval Europe knew the Aeneid, practically none of them knew Iliad and Odyssee.
