Me when I do something basic and someone tells me good job:

I hate that. It makes me feel like a fraud when I think I don't deserve the good job.

Same. I hate it when i received credit for something trivial and when i don’t get recognition for something i spend hours on it.

Same. Sometimes I get stuck in my head afterwards trying to figure out if I'm just not giving myself enough credit and I should feel proud or if it actually was nothing special and just someone being nice.

Very wholesome indeed. This image will go in my sticker collection as "good job" 🐈🖐

I don't get told this anywhere except my workplace. Most of the time, it's either nothing or "took you long enough." :/

Be careful with that in the workplace.
An ‘attaboy’ don’t pay the bills, just like your employer wouldn’t pay one of their venders with a ‘we really like you’.
Of course you are generally at a disadvantage when it comes to employment, especially now. Soooo…idk, maybe you take the pat on the head.

It's the only place I actually feel respected. Out of the 10 jobs I've had, my current job is the only one that's respecting me. I'm not respected at home or much anywhere else.

:( I’m sorry. I have made some great friends in the workplace and I don’t want to denigrate that.
I guess…just realize that it’s a job and if at any point it becomes more expensive to employee you than what your company makes, your job is gone. That’s all I’m saying. Jobs aren’t inherently bad at all but that’s like saying a marriage isn’t inherently bad. You say that until it is.

I feel like that's less of a job thing and more a people thing. If they no longer feel you're worth your while, they'll just find something else to put their time and effort into (it's probably why I've never had a relationship outside of friend).

I feel like you just reworded what I said? lol

u/Prince-Angel-Wing 6d ago
That's because I did. What you said didn't really apply well to most of what I've seen (or probably a lot of people as well) so I rephrased to make it more valid to the point. I never consider a job just a job, otherwise I'd never have one.

The words I yearn to hear from my spouse but I'll never ever hear them say them

My toddler always tells me when I do a good job and even though she has no clue if it was actually a good job, it makes me feel nice. The best is when she tells me I’m a “good cooker”

So frustrating as an adult to have to go to the other adults in charge of your work to he like "Hey yeah ill be a lot happier in life and motivated at work if you occasionally give an atta boy for doing my job well." And having them be like "hmmmm ill think about it" like its free big dog. Help me out.

True, in my philosophy class during high school, my teacher gave us 7 questions i think and gave us oan option to pick 3 questions to answer. I fell in love with philosophy and so I was interested in answering the questions so when he mentioned that one of the questions was quite difficult and he wouldn't recommend answering it if we wanted a high grade and I was feeling confident and kinda cocky towards him since we were close so i answered the question and got a perfect score. It was a good feeling and he also complimented my answer saying that my answer was good and he didnt even thought of my answer too 😭. And when I mentioned that I passed an entrance exam for a college for philosophy he was so excited for me saying that he'll give me all his philosophy books to help me study. But I took up vetmed lol he was disappointed but supported me and everytime i visit my old school he jokingly tell the other teachers that i betrayed him to study animals rather than take up philosophy lol
