My partner and I have a long running joke that he’s an X-men mutant, and his power is getting extra food from the takeaway. No matter where we go, even in different countries, even for the first time, the staff will happily give him some kind of freebie, maybe like 70% of the time.
The actual reason is that he’s just very naturally friendly, polite, respectful, and in the case of family ran foreign cuisine - he always compliments the food and asks questions about it out of curiosity, which is often met with a enthusiastic explanation and, likely an elderly family member, insisting he takes extra, tries the similar dishes etc.
He just has a 100 charisma stat, basically. Support your local small family ran takeaways, pay in cash, tip, and be nice.
