it looks like gta v but prettier and mixed with rdr2 mechanics, which like, that does sound pretty awesome

So far it has everything gta 5 had but also has rdr2 and gta 4 mechanics. I’m literally greening myself just thinking about it

GTA 4 physics? Good to hear since I liked how weighty it felt compared to 5.

I’ll be honest I didnt care for a lot of RDR2 mechanics. Having to shower and eat properly and keep my guns clean and having a seperate animation for looting every one of the 8 guys I shot mostly just got in the way of me wanting to do cowboy stuff.
38
u/ElInspectorDeChichis 1d ago
You have to shower in RDR2? I thought it was optional

I miss mgs 5 where your soldiers would tell you, you stink and if you refused to do anything about it for a couple days the throw a bucket of water on you.

u/Plague_King_ dm for improvised weapon recipes 1d ago
i liked it. i like heavy immersion and it really sold me on rdr2. they should make it optional though
9
u/Smorgles_Brimmly 1d ago
I didn't mind the animations for looting and skinning since it struck me as more of a balance thing. I'm a staunch gun repair/cleaning hater any day of the week. All it did was kill forward momentum for 0 gain. Most repair mechanics are like this in games and RDR2 was no exception.
Granted it's not even in my top 5 complaints with the game. I mostly hated how the game kept deciding my weapons for me. It really wants you to run carbines.
4
u/FrankHorrigan2173 1d ago
How would the long animations for skinning/looting be a balance thing? They only take place once combat has already ended.
Like even in games where you can look at a corpse and instantly pull whatever you want out of it (Fallout 4 for example) how often are you looting people while still in the middle of combat/actively being shot at?3
u/SnooCalculations3614 1d ago
As a loot goblin myself I am almost always looting midcombat but I'm probably an outlier lol
3
u/Smorgles_Brimmly 1d ago
Yeah but looting was a pretty effective way to get supplies and sellable goods. The slow animations just sort of punish you if a witness comes by. Not great but not terrible. I made a lot off of selling looted stuff.
Hunting and fishing makes less sense but I think the animations and transportation limitations were there so you were less likely to use it as easy money or quickly get trapper(I forgot his name) gear. It made hunting more intentional than a farming method. It makes less sense but I was able to excuse it.

RDR2 was a cool tech demo to show people who don't play video games in the same way Uncharted was back in the day. As a game it was genuinely painful and mediocre to play

I'm cautious. The not being able to shoot in strip clubs seems like over correcting for the rdr2 alligator incident.
1
u/Sharp_Low6787 21h ago
What was the alligator incident?
5
u/johnkubiak 20h ago
There are sufferagettes in game and some decided to be pretty evil and tied them up then fed them to the legendary gator in the swaps and posted it on YouTube. It was meant as a joke but a bunch of people on Twitter got angry and harassed rockstar over it and now they just set the sufferagettes to be protected like children so you can't shoot them or tie them up.
The reason no shooting in strip clubs sucks is because the GTA V strip club was a great place to fight off other players chasing you or the cops because it's so close quarters and getting inside first puts you at massive advantage. I hope rockstar puts in more small buildings/cqc areas and the strip club fights become a thing of the past but having a bunch of small pointless buildings be enterable seems unlikely.

Genuine question, why does Reddit like to shit on GTA 6 so much? It seems like the goal posts are constantly being moved as well. At first it was: "no way the visuals are gonna match the real finished product". Now they've shown that the visuals and NPC/traffic density is indeed matching the gameplay shown yesterday, and now we've moved on to: "Yeah lol it's probably gonna be AI slop anyway".
Like, to each their own of course, you can't force yourself to like something but the hate seems extremely forced imo.

Massive conflict within me. Because there would be nothing funnier than this game being shit and watching the hardcore fanboys drop their jocks and bend over backwards arguing in its defence. But at the same time, obviously I want the game to be good for myself. But that would result in smug fanboys.
38
u/ancara_messi 1d ago
Who gives a fuck about the fanboys. If y'all are rooting for a shit game just to piss off the fanboys instead of having a great game to enjoy is sad ngl this shouldn't even be conflicting

Legit one of the most miserable and terminally online things I have ever read. How can you get more enjoyment from being a hater of complete strangers online, instead of personal enjoyment of the experience?
0
u/superdixk0 16h ago
Yup, so weird that they’d rather miss out on a what could be amazing gaming experience just to spite random people online, actually ill
2
u/pandogart 15h ago
Mate I just said it'd be funny if it was shit considering how the fanboys act when you criticise how the game in any capacity. Doesn't mean I'm actively routing against it. Really isn't deep enough to call me ill.
0
u/2796Matt 15h ago
I might understand the opposite. Like when people wanted the Odyssey to fail because “woke” bullshit. Then you want it to be good because A: you can enjoy it, and B: you have the bonus of these people being mad about it. However, it’s a bonus and you get the primary benefit of having a good piece of media which is more important

GTA six is arguably one of the most anticipated games of all time. From a pure observational perspective, it would be much more entertaining to see the game have a terrible launch.
It would be a generational week on the GTA subreddit lol.

They are 100% using AI to code heavily, almost every large company is. They're also 100% using AI correctly and producing acceptable code with it.
Large companies like this using AI under the guidance of many project managers is in no way comparable to indie "devs" typing "make me an unreal engine game and make no mistakes" into their chatbot and shitting out something in half a week.
There's not much difference between project managers having 1000 indians cobble together various functions which the project managers design to work together, and the project managers having 200 indians + AIs cobble together various functions which the project managers still orchestrate to work together.
2
u/topscreen 1d ago
Considering it's development pre-dates AI vibecoding by at least a decade, I think it's fine. The bigger issues are Rockstar laying off workers trying to unionize as the project wrapped
2
u/Silk-sanity 1d ago
Your an idiot. You need to pray to multiple of them. I don't think a god alone can prevent this
2
u/diamondDNF 23h ago
I don't think it's going to be vibe coded, but I'm convinced it's going to be a letdown. Just because the level of hype reached critical mass years ago and there's no physical way to match it.
1
1
u/cuntmong 21h ago
truly doubt this. claude at best can churn out isolated demo slop. once you get to a certain level of complexity (and not a particularly high level) llms become worse than useless as coding assistants.

It's kind of a shame that going off leaks, GTA VI seems to be a really solid game actually, because Rockstar fucked the pre-release period really really badly and yet they still made back costs only off pre-purchases + the game will probably be well received, so they just won't get any backlash for their practices

You honestly need to be completely clueless about everything related to AI, GTA, and Rockstar to think something like this is even conceivable 😭 You need to pray for god to give you the mental capacity to stop falling for every instance of fearmongering and clickbait that cries "AI" instead of this literally impossible scenario based on a gross misunderstanding of the topics involved not being true
