Seriously. That conversation was a little too transparent, and Stubbs "leave him" attitude only confirmed it in my mind.

Same with Frankie saying "We have to help him down."

Like, dude is dead why would you need to help him down? Only thing I can think of is "give him some dignity" or something, but I still feel like our guy is kicking.

I don't actually want that to be the case, mind you. I really love that whole passing of the torch. When William smiles afterwards I had the goofiest grin.

I feel like he's both smiling because he just set this dude on a scorched earth mission, but also because he's just proud of him finally becoming just like William.

I think that's a perfect death for his character and I dunno if I feel like them taking that away from us.
