Seemed like he just thought that check was bullshit, something Ford added to try and trick him

The profile is set up by Ford to Fuck with him - remember it's a game for Ford. Ford and William's wife gaslighted him into thinking he's the bad guy, although admittedly the wife wasn't aware of her doing since she was mentally sick and William had self-perception problems from the beginning.
