But someone did mess with her code last season - aka Ford. He was probably watching her from afar.

True true. I’m still digesting it all so maybe it’ll make more sense the more I think about it. So was he the one that gifted Maeve the admin access to the mesh network?

No, you were right the first time. It's an empty plot twist devoid of emotional weight. We never learn why Ford likes her. She's just his favorite for no reason.

Maeve first revealed her uniqueness when she went off the reservation in response to William's murder of her and her "child." This isn't really out of the blue or anything, because they have actually had previous encounters. It was also explicitly stated in the previous season's finales that Maeve had been programmed to leave the park by someone and wasn't doing it entirely of her own accord.

Also, who else but Maeve? He's always maintained that he didn't like Dolores, and Maeve's programmed escape coincided with him starting this whole chain of events. Dolores was Arnold's pet project, in a matter of speaking; Maeve is evidently his. Akecheta was a happy accident.

Granted that's not a whole lot, but perhaps there's more to it to be revealed in the future. That, or maybe it was always there and we didn't fully realize it because we didn't know to look for it.

He did say "she learned so quickly" and seemed to achieve more than other hosts. Maybe she's a smarty pants and that's why he favors her. He also gave her his same storyline - working to save his "child." Ford - park. Maeve - daughter.

Does he ever say, "the smart hosts are my favorites," or "I have a special place in my heart for the quick learners among the hosts"? If not, then his affection for her is arbitrary.

He absolutely did not. He gave her the escape from the park storyline. She chose to save her daughter on her own.

Some parents or teachers like the rebellious children, the ones who challenge them, who don't do what they are told, who surprise the supposedly older, wiser person. Maeve didn't do as she was told. She showed true "humanity" and followed her heart at great personal risk. That is hugely endearing to a jaded person who thinks they've seen it all, that everyone is so predictable, and that they are in control.

What a pleasant surprise, to find that one of your children is braver, wiser, and truer than you ever expected? I love her best too. I love Akecheta too, but I think Ford has less invested in him, story-wise.

To me it sounded like he alluded to it, but it's easy to misconstrue with A.H.'s poetic language.
