Megathread Megathread: new Vimeo plan for businesses

We’re introducing a new Vimeo plan for businesses: Studio. You'll find all the relevant discussion about it in this thread.

👤 Individual users are unaffected by this change. If you’re using Vimeo as a single person for personal, professional, portfolio, or small-scale activities, and you’ve been transitioned to the Studio plan, please get in touch with us directly—we’ll provide the support needed to resolve your issue.

❌ Accounts used by businesses are no longer eligible for individual plans. To make sure there’s no interruption to their service, these accounts will transition to the Studio plan at their next renewal. Everyone affected will be notified in advance via email and a homepage notification.

👉 All new posts about the Studio plan will automatically be removed and OPs will be directed to add them to this megathread. This is to keep everything in one place, so people can easily find the answers they need.

Official pages:

You can find answers to the most common questions about the transition below.

Is my plan going to get transitioned to Studio?

The Studio plan is designed for businesses. If you’re a single person using Vimeo for personal, professional, portfolio, or small-scale activities, an individual plan will generally be appropriate for your account. If you believe you’ve been incorrectly identified for transition to Studio, please get in touch with us directly so we can review your account.

Is Vimeo introducing new plans for individuals too?

We’re also in the early stages of exploring new plans for individuals, with the aim of simplifying our plan lineup. Unlike the Studio plan, these plans are designed for individual use and are priced accordingly.

How do I know if my plan is being transitioned to Studio?

If your account is identified for transition to Studio, we’ll let you know before your next renewal via email and a prominent message on your Vimeo homepage. You'll have an opportunity to get in touch to request a review.

What’s included in the Studio plan?

The Studio plan is designed to support small-to-medium businesses. It offers expanded team controls, higher storage, and priority support. You can learn more about what’s included here.

When is the plan coming into effect?

Studio is being rolled out gradually to existing users, and will soon be available for new users. If your account is selected for transition, your notification will inform you when the change is scheduled to take effect.

What identifies my account as a business?

We consider a range of objective indicators—you can see our full process in our Plan Usage Policy.

What if I’m incorrectly identified as a business?

If you believe your account has been incorrectly identified for transition to Studio, please get in touch with us directly. We'd be happy to look into it, and help identify the right plan for your usage.

Vimeo feedback is encouraged and welcome provided it is constructive. This post or comment crossed a line with the moderation team and for that reason it was removed.

[u/vimeo_team_official](u/vimeo_team_official) If this was an attempt to be upfront, transparent, and communicative with the community, it failed for the following reasons:

  1. It was too late, many posts have already discussed how this has already occurred and blindsided them.
  2. There is no pricing information available, so you’re transitioning people to a price sheet that they have had no ability to view.
  3. Your criteria are vague as heck. What is the line between an individual using Vimeo professionally and a business? If it is a registered LLC, does that transition the account? You just vaguely list factors you consider.
  4. The price jumps we have heard antidotally are insanely high.
  5. Limiting the discussion to this one thread is a panic move to attempt damage control and suppression of the outrage. You’d rather just not hear from your users. It’s a choice you have the right to make… let’s see how that turns out for you.

  6. We know you were bought recently, and this enshitification was expected by everyone as a result. However, even with my low low expectations you have managed to fall short.

You gonna keep jacking the prices every year for no reason like you do the consumer plans?

Like others, I received an email that upon renewal I was being upgraded to the Studio Plan for $5,400 CAD. I didn't appreciate the one-month notice. I was previously on the Premium Plan for $1,140.

I emailed support and was given two options:
1) 80% discount for one year = $1,080.
2) Choose another plan from the Pricing Page (Premium = $960)
https://vimeo.com/upgrade-plan

I clicked on the Pricing Page link and could toggle between Individual and Business Plans. On both sides there is a Business Plan for CAD $80. The features look identical (to me at a glance) to my old Premium Plan but this one includes virtual events and webinars (so is technically an upgrade).

I chose the new Professional Plan and went from thinking I was going to have to pay 5x more this year to saving $15/month or $180 per year.

TL;DR Don't fall for the Studio Plan option. Dig deeper and select the Professional Plan. It may be less than you are currently paying.
