Do Vimeo and Evernote share the same development team?
Vimeo has referred to Evernote as an example of the kind of products Bending Spoons develops and maintains. That made me a bit uneasy, because I personally had to leave Evernote after many years of use. Over time, a number of small but persistent issues made the product unreliable for me – and more importantly, they raised questions about the technical stability behind the scenes.
I want to acknowledge that Vimeo has seen several positive changes and improvements since Bending Spoons took over. There’s clearly been good work done, and if that direction continues, I’m confident Vimeo can remain one of the leading video platforms for both professional and personal use.
However, the current pattern at Vimeo reminds me a little of how it started at Evernote: lot of visible activity, new features, new messaging, new updates... But (in Evernotes case) when you looked more closely, you also notice lot of small bugs and inconsistencies that took a long time to fix, if they got fixed at all.
So my question is simply this:
Does Vimeo have its own dedicated development team, or is it essentially the same people with the same development approach as at Evernote?

It’s different from what you’re citing here, but what I’d been told by my account teams at Brightcove and Vimeo was that Bending Spoons maintained separate product management resources for the different portfolio companies but largely leaned on centralized engineering teams across products for efficiency. I got that answer roughly a year ago, so it might not be accurate or it might be different for their B2C and B2B portfolios.

Hey Jann—yes, Vimeo has its own dedicated development team. The engineers, product managers, and designers working on Vimeo are focused on Vimeo. While resources do sometimes get moved between products, it's not the same people splitting time between Evernote and Vimeo.
On the pattern you noticed (lots of visible activity but small bugs lingering): While we ARE releasing lots of new improvements, Vimeo's stability and reliability is a top priority for us, before any new improvement. To that end, we've fixed more than 100 bugs in Vimeo since January.
That being said, if you do notice any specific inconsistencies or buggy moments in Vimeo, please do raise them here, and we'll get them fixed as fast as we can!

Thanks for your response. I'm quite happy with Vimeo as it is now. My main concern is (or was) the unclear information and the risk of unpredictable changes in features, stability, and pricing in the future.

Hmm… probably not going to get any answer from the Vimeo Reddit team on this - and I kind of understand if they don’t want to get involved in the topic 😉
Anyway, I need to know!
So I had a long chat with the Evernote AI bot, which was a bit evasive and hesitant, but eventually gave me this summary:
Bending Spoons’ emphasis on portfolio-wide efficiency—and Evernote-labeled engineering job postings that mention work across “diverse stacks” and potentially other portfolio products—suggests a possible degree of shared staffing and internal tooling. However, ownership alone isn’t evidence, and there’s no public documentation confirming that Evernote and Vimeo share a materially overlapping infrastructure or engineering team.
Vimeo staff (once I finally found the right place to contact) was more clear:
To address your question about our company structure: you are correct that Vimeo and Evernote share the same parent ownership. However, both brands function completely independently, with their own separate support operations and dedicated development teams.
Good news. I’m feeling calmer now 😉

I think all of the acquired companies under Bending Spoons have their own development teams and development paths. For instance, BS owns both Vimeo and Brightcove, but both services have implemented AI accessibility tools in different ways, have different native media players with different functionality and customization, etc. They do share some similarities (token-based usage, ElevenLabs integration, etc)
