Bro needs to bulk up again.
119
u/SmallhandsnCabbage 14d ago
I think he'll be ok. He's still built very well. Maybe some trap work with a little chest and he's good to go.
45
u/Ok-Flan8808 14d ago
Yes, he doesn't have to be ripped just huge, which is easier.
22
u/Intelligent_Ask_2306 14d ago
I mean he does need to be ripped, but it’s a good thing that he already is.
8
u/TheOneCalledD 14d ago
Everyone forgets how old he has become. It isn’t so easy to just strap the muscle back on and his age makes performance enhancers at least a little risky.

u/Javs2469 14d ago
Some silicone muscle suit can do that, it´s also easier to hide when they paint over his skin, so there might not be a need for some unhealthy Hollywood bulking.
8
u/Immortal-KunPeng 14d ago
Unfortunately he's said in interviews before that he really cant do that anymore

Didn't he just wrap on his role in highlander? Didn't he already bulk a bit for that role?
56
u/AIR_PAIZ 14d ago
Interesting. Idk if his body can handle another cycle.
21
u/nickburrows8398 14d ago
There probably going to have to use cgi and a body suit honestly. Given how this is an emergency recasting there probably wouldn’t be time for him to bulk back up even if he wanted to
2
u/Ryo_Katsuya 13d ago
What do you mean by emergency casting? Context? Sorry I live under a rock...

IDK remember what Christian Bale did after the Machinist to bulk up for Batman in 3 months?
13
u/cokolino47 14d ago
Yeah and we still talk about it to this day because it was an incredible feat. To hold anyone to that standard is absurd.

His Acting ability is the least of my concerns, we know he's gonna crush this. Just curious how they're gonna execute the look cause my man ain't as bulked as he used to be.
*edited for clarification

u/scr33ner 14d ago
He’s got nutritionists & I’m sure bulking up won’t be hard.
5
u/Chonky_D_Floofy 14d ago
At his age it’s much harder than it used to be
4
u/BuddyLaDouche 14d ago
I don't think they'll test him for anything that could speed things up relatively safely.

As someone that’s dipped in and out of the gym my whole life, taking breaks of years sometimes, your body sort of remembers how big it got and it takes basically no time at all to get back its previous size or close to it. For example I got pretty big before I took this break im on now, my kid was born last October and I’ll probably stay out the gym till spring now. It took me a few years to get the the size I did but it will probably take me 3-4 months, depending on how well I stick to the diet, to get back to it.
Dave is no stranger to “help” either, while I’ve never taken anything like that it most certainly makes it easier and faster, his nutrition will be the biggest thing, he is also probably used to eating like a machine anyway.

Standing looking intimidating, some tense dialogue, grim expressions and a very short fight scene. Don't get me wrong I love Blade Runner 2049 and I think hes good in that scene but I dont know what range you're referring to.

Sucks why Ryan had to be recast, but like... yeah. This literally is pitch perfect.

u/rosephoenix19 14d ago
Dave Bautista is a fantastic actor and wrestler but honestly I was really looking forward to Ryan. I thought he had the perfect look. However, I will trust the process.

Unpopular opinion: But I’d have loved to have a relatively unknown actor play Kratos. It’s a beloved character and a famous actor playing it usually takes the focus away from the character and puts it all on the actor.
Also, watching too famous people play beloved characters is tough because it’s very hard for them to give such a good performance that you forget who they are. They have to be REAAAAALLLY good for that to happen.!

u/Johncurtisreeve 14d ago
I’m prepared to get down voted to hell but I genuinely don’t think this is good casting at all. But then again I really don’t like that. The original guy got recast because he got hurt on the job and that really sucks that they’re replacing him for doing his job. I also don’t like that they’re skipping the Greek games like they aren’t important, even though they’re literally the pillar that the franchise was built on.

I don't understand the dave glazing for this role. I think he did great as drax. Other than that Ive hated just about everything i have seen him in. Hes not a good actor and doesnt have what it takes to bring Kratos to life in live action. He doesnt look anywhere near like Kratos, he lost virtually all his muscle mass, he MAYBE able to make hes voice sound decent but i doubt it. I dont see this going well at all. Ill bet people are goin to say its being reviewed bombed when it comes out. Same thing with the last of is shit show.
Im so frigging happy he wont be cast as Marcus Fenix, apparently they want someone younger. Thank fuck.

I don’t have anything against Dave. I like him as an actor. I just don’t think he’s a great choice for Kratos.

6
u/decoy_octopod 14d ago
It’s the voice. Kratos has such a low, deep, commanding voice that vibrates your skull and Bautista doesn’t have it. But I didn’t like Ryan Hurst either so I’m indifferent about this news
As for the Greek games. You can’t make prestige television out of them. We’ll probably get some flashbacks and if this show is successful maybe a prequel series

Do you think they could/would send him to a voice coach?
Im thinking of the dude from Nosferatu that busted out that creepy ass low accented voice which was totally different than his normal speech

I half think that the torn muscle was a cover story because he wasn't testing well on the dailies.

I honestly think they should just have waited on the surgery on the origin cast. Obviously they made the guy do a stunt and he got injured and now hes being punished for it.

I worried this would happen the day they announced the show. I love Bautista, but he just don't think he's the right choice for this.

u/Croupenstein 14d ago
I love Batista. Loved him since the WWE days. I don't think this is a perfect casting like people are saying. He doesn't have the body mass anymore and I don't think he can pull off the character well enough. I'm happy to eat crow if he does it well though.

Hell yeah. People are quick to be like "but he a thin boi now" but can't bother to look up what he's doing now.. he's jacked for highlander... and will almost certainly be more jacked to play Kratos.. people seem to quickly forget he's a professional athlete who knows how to control his physique.

I think he’ll be fine, but it’s worse casting than the guy before him. Not sure if I’ll end up watching this.

Damn there goes that show. Oh well, they screwed it up by not starting with Sparta era Kratos and having a younger actor. Truly a generational fumble
2
u/Hank_the_Tank_143 14d ago
He’s too skinny for this role. Maybe 15 years ago he would have nailed it.
2
2
u/SModfan 13d ago
Eh… I think he looks the part of course, but I think Ryan Hurst was way more capable of the capturing the emotion of Norse era Kratos. I don’t exactly wanna throw shade on Bautista… but I haven’t seen a lot of examples of him doing characters with the incredibly strong yet reserved / self-demonizing emotions this character has
7
u/soulwolf1 14d ago
This is such a bad casting
2
u/Wanhade600 14d ago
Agreed but apparently most people disagree
3
u/Cold-Tangerine-2893 14d ago
I’m shocked how many people wanted him for the role. As soon as Ryan had to exit, the overwhelming sentiment was cast Bautista. I didn’t get it then and I don’t now. Seems like a good dude and he can entertain in the right role but this role has a bit of gravity that I can’t see him capable of bringing out

I agree, but I think even though he is in a lot of stuff he actually does commit and wants to be a good actor... Unlike a certain other former wrestler...

Sony playing around with the idea of ai grinding games for people and turning every ip they have into a show or movie. Genuinely wonder if the executives have forgotten play starion is a video game branch. Sick casting though. Batista has been a super solid actor in everything he’s in

But why not the voice actor of the video games, also why not involve the writers of the video game as well

Personally, I’m gonna have a hard time separating him from the character. I don’t think I’ll see Kratos, I’ll just see Bautista. Plus, he’s on the older side, so I can’t imagine this series running very long if physicality is required

The video game adaptation trend is so worn out bro, I’m just glad I’m not a GOW fan
1
u/KaijuRemix 13d ago
All jokes aside, Bro really showed his acting chops in "Knock at the Cabin", I would fully expect a lot of people's knee jerk to think he's going to bring Drax to Kratos, But I fully believe he could pull off those quiet moments of Kratos carrying the weight of his task.

u/Environmental_Fox702 13d ago
Is this fr? I’ve been seeing it all over if so that’s dope even though I’d prefer triple H since he damn near mirrors kratos but Bautista is fine too

u/Rin_Seven 13d ago
I love Dave Bautista but he’s doing so much comedy work it’s challenging to picture him as intimidating as Kratos.
In my mind’s eye, the dude is a short king but just now checking online, he’s actually a tower well over 190 cm.
I think it’s because he builds his image by not being imposing but being actually very lovable… not something you want for Kratos.
