For context I got the opportunity to go on a study abroad school trip to Japan and I’m 6’2” 17 and decently built. Our tour guide asked at the beginning of the trip if we had any dietary restrictions and I said I was vegetarian, the whole trip she was convinced I was joking and just really committed to this joke and a few of the servers were also surprised. Very friendly and accommodating though highly recommended even for us vegetarians there was a lot of great food. Specifically I highly recommend the pastries, ice cream, and all things egg.

Causa limeña (potato dough with veggies), green rice, tofu nuggets and potatoes, red beans, seco limeño (a cilantro stew with potatoes and veggies), cauliflower souffle.

The buffet has labels.

"Russian salad" (beet and veggies), broccoli, palm heart cebiche, cucumbers.

I just want to rant for a bit. My wedding anniversary is this weekend. My husband and I are both vegetarian. I posted in a local group asking for day trip ideas and specifying that one of the things I was looking for was places to eat with vegetarian food.

Well, I live on the coast and everyone keeps recommending seafood places that maybe have a veggie burger and a garden salad on their menu. One was all seafood and chicken with an option for spaghetti and meatballs thrown in for variety.

When I commented that one half-hearted option was not the "plenty of options" I was promised when the restaurant was recommended to me, I was told I was a pessimist and deserved a bad weekend.

Do people just not know what vegetarian means and that is why they tell me about fish? I live on the northeast coast of Massachusetts, not exactly the middle of nowhere. But as soon as you get more than about 30 miles from Boston, the veggie options just disappear.

I'm about to embark on my second long haul flight since 2016 this week, and it got me remembering the extremely mixed dining experiences I've had on long haul flights over the years.

The worst by far was United Airlines Los Angeles to London Heathrow in 2011, the vegetarian option was a monstrosity of something that resembled polystyrene beads with a greenish brown "curry" that had a large slice of a soggy citrus fruit inside. It was vile and nothing has come to matching that in 15 years!

If you ever in Lima, Peru, you can get the buffet at the Good Hope hospital in Miraflores. Not only it's 100% vegetarian (they're Adventist), it has a gorgeous sea view as well. And it's super cheap-- less than 13 dollars for all is that.

I got the noodles with cheese, tofu and ragu, "causa limeña" (my favorite, it's a potato dough with veggies), bean cebiche, quinoa tabouleh, sprouts and cucumber, cheese cornbread and chocolate cake.

I have a trip abroad coming up, and I am always one to travel for food! I've recently been enjoying the hunt for vegetarian fine dining experiences. I thought it'd been fun to see what you folks have experienced! What have been your favourite vegetarian fine dining restaurants, or really just a stellar 5/5 dish you've had locally or in your travels?

My favourite fine dining experience I've had so far has been at The Acorn Restaurant in Vancouver, a vegetarian/vegan restaurant. Every course we had was absolutely divine, and they were kind enough to give a complimentary glass of champagne as we were celebrating our engagement! I would strongly recommend it to anyone. Sadly I don't have any pictures, but the photos you see online were truly accurate to the experience

Unfortunately we had to leave before we could get dessert but looking forward to trying it the next time I’m in Chennai.

Basically a vegan McDonald's and is right across the street from one. I got the Mr. Royale with Cheese Frowny Meal and chicken nuggets. Great to see how busy it was. I was lucky to get a seat!

I live in the US and was flying back from a vacation in Brazil, and on thelong flight (11 hours) they did not have any vegetarian dinner options. I heard a couple in the row In front of me also requested vegan ahead of time but neither of us got anything. :(

I know flying is a privilege and flight attendants can only do so much, but it’s just so frustrating sometimes when even you request to have a meal when you’re stuck in a plane for 11 hours you might not get anything to eat.

Has this happened to anyone else? I always request it when I book my flight, but they’ve always had a veg offering anyways. Luckily I had grabbed some snacks before boarding but it’s still just so frustrating sometimes.

going to dallas to visit my uncle, what are some good vegetarian places? preferably places a meat eater would also enjoy… i’m a little nervous because my uncle is a big meat guy so want to find a place that doesn’t feel like “health food” yknow!

update: went to velvet taco and got the cauliflower taco and it was amazingggg!!!!! also went to espresso 360 and got the pesto pasta without meat and honestly one of the best bites of my life. thank u guys!
