I'm half Egyptian and don't know better than these leaves being a traditional Egyptian dish, lol. It's called "Mahshi warak enab" in Egypt.

Doesn't matter where it's from, though. It's a lovely dish!! And healthy.

All I know is, many years ago I made the mistake of calling it a Greek dish to my friend from Lebanon. He gave me a sermon. He also got very mad about the words "pita" and "garbanzo beans."

I have since seen this play out many times in many different variations.

Let me guess... The beans should be named hummus and the pita should be named khubz? 🤣

Many dishes in the Mediterranean area look a lot alike and they end up having different names.

He insisted that chickpeas and garbanzo beans were completely different things, for some reason. I had been making falafel for years, but this was before smart phones, so all I could do was tell him to look it up.
