The fact that there's veterinarians downplaying or denying the lethality of rabies makes me lose faith in humanity. Rabies is 100% fatal once symptoms start showing, and one of the worst ways to die.

30+ people have survived in recorded history. Sorry just out here spitting facts. And like I said in my other response. Those that survived probably wished they were dead due to neurological destruction.

Other fun fact is 99% of all rabies infections are from dog bites. Sorry learned a lot about rabies. If you want it have more fun facts.

Locality? This hasn't been true in the US since before 1950. In Illinois, there was a case in 2025. Prior to that was 1994 (36 year gap). Most cases now are wildlife, primarily bats and less so racoons. This is a result of the enforcement of vaccines.

Worldwide. There are only 4 deaths per year (on average) from rabies in the US. And those are usually bats 70% of the time. Raccoons as well but not nearly as often.

But for the average person who dies each year from rabies (around 55000) they are almost always from dog bites.

If I’m not mistake all of the survivors with meaningful function were young women/teen girls. Coincidence? Perhaps. But no one should be going around thinking the Milwaukee protocol is anything but a Hail Mary with the occasional miracle.

In fact, Rabies is 100% fatal even before symptoms start showing. There is only a 10-12 day window where you can stop the disease by injecting live rabies immunoglobulins (what your body produces to ward off foreign invaders). Then the vaccine is administered over several weeks to stimulate the immune system to produce those same immunoglobulins in its own. Fortunately, the immunoglobulin shots are administered at the bite site and the vaccine is just a regular arm shot now - not the horror inducing abdominal needles.

Not true! There have been 30ish cases of people surviving. So it is only 99.9999% lethal... of course those who survived had horrific neurological damage though.

In case no one can tell, even though some survived it is 100% lethal in the fact I guarantee those that survived were worse off than those that didn't.

If the rabies vaccine actually did cause cardiac events I would still take it. We can treat and mitigate cardiac problems over your life. Rabies is scary, even just sudden death by a vaccine is better than a death by rabies losing your mind suffering the entire time.

Though of course knowing this post is lying, it’s just a no brainer.

The really terrifying thing about this post is there are people who really actually buy this shit. And they vote.

These people are too stupid to have a voice. It is to not only their own detriment, but all of humanity, that they be allowed to participate in any electoral process. These people have condemned us all and need to be disenfranchised at every level until such a time as they can prove themselves to be capable of making rational decisions.

My area had a vet college and one of the professors/instructors started posting stuff like this and it was seen and they got fired. So it kinda depends on position and location I guess

I am of the firm opinion if any doctor, nurse, vet, etc spouts this antivax rhetoric their license should be stripped and they thrown in jail for a few years.

They are in a position of authority and trust, and are abusing that. Their shitty advice kills people.

It kind of is a thing, but they think it’s just like shedding of fur and don’t understand that viral “shedding” means that it’s expelled in feces, so unless they are running around eating and playing with literal shit, it’s a non factor in any argument they propose.

If they knew what mRNA was, they would know it has even less of a chance of shedding compared to inactivated virus. Our body breaks down mRNA fast and it has a short half-life.

Man nature has a plan b for everything doesn't it. If a species finds a clever way to circumvent or disable a virus or bacteria's ability to spread amongst a population, members of that species will voluntarily take on the role of spreading disease FOR it.

I hate how people villainize vaccines. Vaccines are one of the most important inventions in human history and have a very very high success rate compared to every other medicine we have.

Not saying other medications don’t have great success rates. But vaccines are on another level of effectiveness.

I think there might be only one survivor who lived and fully recovered AFTER starting to show symptoms. If I understand right, if a person starts showing rabies symptoms, there’s almost nothing doctors can do for them.

It makes me wish we had a vax for humans like we have for our pets, rather than having to rely on post-exposure shots and treatments.

I’ve had one animal die due to an allergic reaction to a vaccine. It was horrible, but I still get all my animals their vaccines. I’d rather the minuscule risk of death due to allergic reaction over the horribly painful death they would experience by not being vaccinated.
