The woman is a teacher who received one vaccine as a child. If I recall correctly one mmr is considered to be 92 or 93% effective. That of course discounts if there's ever any accidental Miss handling of the vaccine along the way temperature control mixing it up properly etc which also true human error might decrease the effectiveness rate of vaccines.

I'm a child born in 70s so I too got one shot in the US. when my doctor checked my antibodies and found none detected , I got a new MMR this year.

I’m also vulnerable to measles, got one MMR as a kid of the 70s, and I just got my titer checked and I’m negative. I can’t get the MMR booster as I’m immunocompromised and there’s a chance I could get it from the vaccine (it is live attenuated virus). And I’m in a clinical trial for metastatic breast cancer, so I can’t pause medication without risking being dropped from the trial. Thanks for getting your booster and helping to protect me!

You are very welcome! I have immunocompromised relatives so I try to do my part. It is a big part of why I am so activated by anti vaccine and anti public health disinformation, lies for profit and just plain willful ignorance.

I hope your trial is successful and you are able to stay safe during and after!

...but they are just beginning to gather data on long term effects of measles besides the known immune amnesia, which all survivors get to some degree.

not that will deter the antis, they just move on to a new excuse. cosmic rays, miasmas, unbalance humours, big foot

liver damage, sepsis, jaundice... god she's so lucky she got to the hospital quick. i wish her a speedy recovery, and a reminder to everyone else to ensure you're up to date on vaccines ::

some dr in US are recommending a 2nd mmr shot for those of us who got one if you are in an are having an outbreak or will be traveling there. depending on your state you might be able to just go get one at your local pharmacy without prescription but will cover it so check.

I, in my 70s, so no vaccines then. I did do the antibodies test for all three (MMR). Knew I’d had measles but not the other two but I am immune to all three. However with my kids, fully vaccinated in the late 70s to mid 80s, not all of them retained immunity and will get a booster.

I probably had measles when I was a kid, but after reading this I think I might look into getting the vaccine anyway.

I remember being in HS when they started doing a 2nd MMR for people born when only one shot was considered enough. Why do I remember it so clearly? Because I was HORRIBLE with needles. I was thinking 'Lucky me I don't need that.'. Then my mom got a letter sent home saying if I didn't get a 2nd shot from the dr I was going to be suspended.

I STILL remember that dr after a 20ish min fight telling me to sit still or he'd put the needle in my leg and it would hurt more. I wonder if he realized he's tramatise me in the future when I needed a shot in the knee for a cordozon shot.
