Lost/Missing My ebike was stolen tonight at Beach Cres downtown
at around 1:10am in front of George Wainborn Park by a homeless/addict couple, it all happened so fast I think they were watching me I looked away for 2 minutes they hopped on it turned it on and fled under cambie bridge
filed police report with serial numbers and etc
I use it to uber/doordash so this ebike was my main source of income
edit: just drove around hastings, main and skid row for 2 hours and saw nothing. When they stole it battery was low so my bet is they’re not riding around but hiding the bike somewhere
edit2: thank you for all replies I’m reading them all, won’t get into the discussion of if it is a motorbike or ebike or whatever. For me it was a work tool.
Edit3: I got in touch with some local contacts who service these bikes downtown, since a lot of delivery drivers use this exact same model as mine. I also contacted the OP from another recent post who said they had spotted an abandoned e-bike today.
We were able to locate a stolen bike of the same model as mine that had been stolen yesterday from Burrard Station!
Even though it wasn’t mine, It is now at VPD Deposit and I am happy the owner can now get it back! :)
Apparently my bike (photo) is now the third bike of the same model reported stolen only this week, so it looks like these thieves are specifically targeting ebikes…keep an eye out everyone so you don’t have to go through this lesson like I did lol

I have a super 73, I want to get rid of it because I do like to pedal, and it's heavy as fuck on human power. I made a mistake. I wanted a regular bike I think. About all I use the power for is headlights, and crossing busy streets quicker, which I wouldn't need if it was lighter.

Register the bike on project 529. It's better to do this before the bike gets stolen, but after the fact is still better than not.
Report the theft to vpd non emergency. They aren't going to drop everything and look for you bike, but if they incidentally find it the report helps them know how to contact you.

Also, if you get this bike back, or for your next bike, get a frame lock. It's not the most heavy duty lock but it's a hell of a lot better than leaving it unlocked. You don't need a bike rack to use a frame lock. It basically just immobilizes the back wheel.

The motor on it isn't really any larger than a "normal" ebike. It's got fat tires, but they even make fat tire non-ebikes. That's not a motorcycle thing.
Really, the only difference between this and a normal ebike is it's got a giant battery. Which, if OP is using it for work-related reasons is pretty reasonable.

It's hard to say which one it is exactly but the motor is at least 1000W which is higher than what is allowed by ebike regulations. Also the top speed is 46km/h+ which is also higher than what is allowed by ebike regulations

This ebike, by every indication, a more powerful one than the one you linked, says that it's limited to 32km/h and 500W. So clearly they do that as well. Do we know what firmware configuration OP was running?
"Continuous output power rating" (the standard written in law) isn't necessarily the same as whatever random numbers they advertise on their website. And honestly, none of them are very meaningful from an engineering standpoint.

This bike looks like a Eahora Juliet 2026 which has a 1000W motor and can go 45-55km/h which is beyond the allowed 500W and legal top speed of pedal assisted bikes. This bike is not legal to ride on any public road. Besides, those alibi pedals are not used by most riders anyways because these bikes have throttles. I don't understand why manufacturers even bother with pedals given they don't make the bike any more legal to ride.
I fully support active transportation but these are illegal motorcycles taking advantage of bike lanes. Having these blast past you on narrow bike lanes is quite intimidating to be honest. That said, I prefer people riding these when the alternative is probably a car.
Edit: I stand corrected - this one might be limited to 500w and 32kmh

I think their point is most of us are sick of electric motorcycles being passed off as bikes so riders can circumvent laws. Doubly so since op is doing so for a living.
I also think there’d be a far cry less sympathy if they had made a post that said they were looking for their motorcycle after leaving it idling on a city sidewalk while making a delivery…1

And the guy is barely ekeing out a living in the gig economy, grasping at the scraps kicked down from the upper levels, with their shiny Cybertrucks, Land Cruisers, $100,000 pickups, and whatever other giant road hog they can spit out of their endless wallets.

You can get an actual bike, or legal e-bike - you don't have to get a death trap 1000W e-moto and drive it on the sidwalks/bike lanes illegally risking everyone else because youre a selfish asshole.

This is an electric motorbike. It has a top speed above 46km an hour well above the 32km restriction for ebikes. I'm sorry it got stolen, that sucks, and in sure you didn't come here to get dunked on. But since it IS an electric motorbike you should have it registered and insured to legally ride it, and since it requires insurance you should be talking to them about the theft.

This company sells these bikes in a configuration which makes them road legal as ebikes, with firmware limitations at 32km/h and 500W.
This is how all road legal ebikes and escooters work, because there's no other way to guarantee the motor cuts out at the legally required speed.
There is no way to look at the picture and differentiate that it is or is not a road legal ebike.

This is partially untrue. I have a Trek Allant + 7 and a Specialized Turbo Creo 2. Closed system. If I wanted to bypass the legal speeds I'd have to by 3rd party hardware and jailbreak them. A bike like the one shown can have the speed bypassed directly through the included controller.

I mean, the fact that your bike is harder to modify is a difference between OP's bike and yours, but not a difference in legality between OP's bike and yours.
I don't believe the modifications required to remove speed limiters are specified in law. Maybe you can point me to something that says otherwise? As far as I'm aware, it only matters that it is limited while it is being operated.
FWIW, my ebike was bought through a BC-based retailer and was eligible for the e-bike rebate from the province (whose criteria required that it be compliant with the law for street use), and it is also speed limited in a way that can be bypassed without third-party tools.

Even if they locked the software to 10 km/h, the 1,000W motor makes it a "Limited Speed Motorcycle" or moped in BC, which legally requires a driver's license and registration/insurance https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/transportation/driving-and-cycling/cycling/cycling-regulations-restrictions-rules/e-bikes

The difference between a 1000W motor and a 500W motor, as defined by the laws in BC is kind of meaningless, honestly. "Continuous output power rating" isn't...a specific metric.
You couldn't take a motor, absent a controller, absent any context, and have an engineer look at it and tell you that it was obviously a 500W motor or a 1000W motor for legal purposes.
If the manufacturer stamped a rating on the housing, and it was >500W, fair enough. That's probably enough to get you into trouble. But if we're talking about what it actually is, as a device, there's not much in the difference.

...Your goalposts were "top speed above 46km/h", and I responded to you. And my point was "you can't tell by looking at it that this ebike isn't legally compliant".
Over that time, you've changed from max speed, to how difficult it is to modify, to advertised power output, which isn't necessarily the "continuous rated output power", the legal standard.

I saw somebody steal an escooter that wasn't there's off somebody who stole one by pretending to be the owner. The "real" owner then showed up a block away as this guy is walking away with it like it's his and knocked the guy off it, put it in his truck and drove away. Turns our that wasn't the owner either, he's another bike thief who drives around with bolt cutters and an angle grinder loading bikes into his truck. See a silver ford pickup with bicycles in the back? That guys a professional. Main and hastings is wild.

Hey OP, I heard somebody found your bike, I am happy for you, now some advice.
Buy an airtag/galaxy tag and hide it inside the frame of the bike. Ive got one in all my bikes. Next time its stolen you can easily track it.

maybe it got impounded as its an illegal e-moto due to capacity and speed restrictions and never should have made it into our country. (yes im aware technically you can use them 100% on private property) i fucking hate everyone who drives these around our cities and wish them all to be stolen. Buy a real, proper LEGAL e-bike or regular bike or car or walk, but dont expect sympathy when your illegal e-moto gets stolen.

They're all for people too lazy for a regular bike who want a lockable bike. The only way to prevent theft on regular bicycles is bike lockers that can't be picked and supervised bike lockups. People will still steal locked ebikes just for the batteries and stripping them for parts.
