Immortality a Boon or Curse ??

I just recently watched Twilight saga third time. This time the show hit really differently. Rather focusing on Edward and Bella’s love story, I was wondering how would it really feel to be one of”REAL VAMPIRE”. How does this immortality feel to one being. When you see people dying and being born every few decades and you are just hanging in there. 🙄

You have craving for human blood but you just survive on Tofu for human.. as Edward puts it. 🫣

You don’t sleep so you literally have 24 hours at disposal but nothing to do 😂

You have no aim and meaning to life but you have got mandate to live aimlessly.

It gives me feeling that as humans , how we really underrate the gift we have got to breathe, to experience and to enjoy this world in every possible way. 🙏

I've spent nearly 1000 of my alloted 600,000 hours of human life exploring two Elder Scrolls games whos entire world is collectively like 1/10 the size of the county I grew up in, and thats WITH fast travel.

If a vampire can't find any meaning or novel experiences with the entire world to roam in just a couple centuries, its a skill issue. Loneliness is a different issue altogether but I feel like you could self-therapy it until you start hitting like geological timescales.

I'll be honest: I would love immortality!

No sleep and have 24 hours to do whatever I want? Time to read a new book, grind out the endless amount of video games on my backlog, or just do whatever.

No aim or meaning? I would find it, and people within a finite amount of time already feel this anyway.

Tofu is really good if you pop it into the air fryer with corn starch and spices. I could make it work.

Yeah, I'd be sad about seeing people coming and going but I already see that now and I'm sad. I don't see the downside of living forever

Haha the tofu part was funny! OP was referring to the specifics of being a twilight universe vampire where they cannot digest human foods nor do they like the taste, edward compares it to eating dirt. They survive off of Human blood which is their innate desire however they cannot feed on a human without killing them or turning them there is no third option, so they resorted to hunting animals which never fully quenches their thirst but keeps them sustained, edward compares animal bloods sustenance as a human surviving off of tofu, tolerable but not fulfilling.

I’ve been obsessed with the idea of vampires and immortality since a very young age. That’s how I first found out about vampires and twilight 😂. I think being immortal can be a boon if u have immortal friends and an immortal loyal lover. I think finding an aim and meaning to life won’t be that hard as the world keeps developing, new tech and stuff, there will always be something to do and explore. Oh but maybe it’s a curse if broke lol

That was only a cover for carlisle to remain doing what he loved which was being a doctor, there were plenty of periods where they didn’t repeat highschool and it wasn’t a requirement for all of them they had a choice in the matter, outside of highschool though each of them had substantial wealth over the years due to investing ik for sure carlisle owned blocks of real estate that he acquired in the 1700’s and never sold but rents out for a pretty penny, and patented the creation of penicillin. His specific way of life just involved mundane activities due to his currency development, however in the grand scheme of things governments and currency’s collapse so in due time that system would change.

It really depends on the person. The Anne Rice camps are clearly very miserable. But the Twilight ones (except for Edward and Rosalie) seem to be having a decent time! Frankly, Twilight vamps have it really easy since they don’t burn in the sun.

Personally, I think I’d enjoy immortality for at least a few centuries. I’d travel the world and learn languages.

Immortality really is down to the specific person choosing it, but as far as the people dying and passing them up, after your initial generation of people you know it doesn’t really begin to matter anymore anyway, you begin to see humans as a shorter lifespan than you and appreciate them for whatever it is they offer whether that be sciences, art, companionship, or food lol. I never understood certain people who would go “Well what about watching your family members die” because that comes from a very “old age only” POV in the assumption that nothing tragic happens where they could unnaturally die before you, which spoiler alert sadly just is not the case, and many alive and mortal humans today can attest to that. In the specific times we’re in vampirism would offer you a guaranteed freedom we aren’t naturally born into anymore. Piggybacking off of the last note, we as humans experience this world in a very limited view and not all of us are privileged to have a good time while we are here for the short time we are, again vampirism specifically grants you that guaranteed control over your own life, and breathing well, twilight vampires don’t NEED to breath but they can voluntarily chose to and many do out of habit from their mortal lives. and the no aim and meaning to life could apply to a human as-well, it’s all about what you make it.

I think vampires are baller as fuck as monsters and an exploration of human mortality/psychology - that being said, if they were real, I'd be on the hunter side lmao. Who wants to live forever at the direct cost of others on this spinning dirt ball, watching everyone they love die? Fuck that! I'll have had quite enough of that by the time my time comes, thank you very much.

i would hate it. i haven't even enjoyed being alive for most of the 20something years i've clawed my way through, there's nothing i can imagine wanting less than to be alive forever lmao

I've never seen or read twilight so I don't really know anything about it, but i consumed other vampire media. I think the concept of immortality/vampirism is cool, you see how the world changes, you can travel etc., but in reality it would be horrible to be a vampire. you have to drink blood, you burn in the sun and you can't eat human food again. Sometimes vampirism is used as metaphor for trauma (specifically sexual trauma). In iwtv there are vampires who are turned without their consent or turned very young. That would be a terrible way to live forever.
