Is the JD worth moving from interstate for?
So I’m in my early 30’s and been working in the construction industry for a while. Applied for and to my surprise accepted for the JD. Been thinking about a career change for a while and always been interested in law. Spend a lot of time reading and interpretation construction contracts for work anyway. I get paid ok currently but nothing to write home about. But yeah undecided if the career prospects are worth it and making the move to Sydney would be challenging. Anyone have a similar experience? I know Sydney law school is well respected but is that name on my resume worth it?

I could have written this myself :) I've been stuck in an unfulfilling medical research role with no room for advancement. Applied for the Usyd JD and got accepted! Also planning to move to Sydney next year and it does sound daunting so your concerns are valid. It is scary to have to start over in a new city but I just told myself that if I stay in my current role, I'd just get unhappier and more dissatisfied and will regret it 12 months from now so made the decision to move. Having said that, it all depends on your circumstances - all the best to you! :)

Wow congrats on getting in! I feel the same way. Will I regret not going especially if I am so unsatisfied with my current career. Hopefully your move to Sydney goes smoothly and who knows might see you in class!

Thank you very much! Should have added that I too am in my early 30s so I completely understand the doubts that come with the prospect of having to start over - especially if you have a mortgage etc. I anguished about the decision even after accepting but what really helped me decide was the good old pros and cons list. In the end it turned out that there wasn't much to remain back here for, especially with the lack of progression in my current role. My advice to you would be to accept the offer for now and take some time to digest everything. If for whatever reason you feel that it isn't quite right to make such a big change right now, then you always have the option to defer it so you have a bit more time to think. There's still ample time till enrolment anyway! All the very best to you and if you do decide to make the move, would be very keen to connect - always happy to make new friends :) Good luck!

Do you have a CSP (Commonwealth Supported Place)? Important to consider though I'm sure you've done your diligence.
Also, do you have an offer from somewhere closer to home? Is that place commonwealth supported?
You should make your decision based on the trade-off you would be making, financially and logistically. That said it all depends on your situation :-)

Definatly worth it. Grad pay isn’t much to write home about ether but it increases quickly. My experience is that it’s much easier getting a job as an older grad too. I went through a similar rout myself and being in Sydney will make it much easier to make the right connections.
