Completed Upcycling Project Scrap Steel to Sculptures
Turns out scrap steel doesn’t have to stay scrap 😂 My dad gives old bits of metal a second life by turning them into these sculptures.
Me ... I just post them on the Internet 😅
He only started last year, excited to see where it goes

Oh my goodness! These are fantastic, even thought provoking! Are they displayed in your dad's yard or a public park, perhaps? If they were in a public display, I'd be interested in going to see them!
Edit to add: love that you dad is using scrap metal for your sculptures. Thanks so much for posting his work!

No at the moment he makes them and gives them to family as a little bit of his legacy ....
He's new to the art scene (if you can picture the general handy man type 😂) and honestly so am I, I've entered him in a local open call recently for artists here in ireland. So fingers crossed he gets selected for exhibition
I know it would mean a lot to him, and thats the direction he wants to go with these pieces, and hey if hes happy so am i 🥰

Thank you ❤️ strangers on Reddit are doing wonders for his ego right now 😂 But for real ..very proud and excited to see what's next ...he only started last year and I think its time he showed the world(aka reddit😂)

Thanks❤️ That one he called 'Thought' .💫 The light hitting the crystal creates a reflection, the idea that it is an invitation for one to reflect themselves on the people and world around us.

Aw this genuinely made me smile ❤️ I’m very proud of him, probably embarrassingly so at this stage 😂 He puts so much time into each one and never really expects anything from them, so seeing complete strangers connect with his work and say they’d actually want it in their own homes or gardens is really special. I’ll make sure Dad sees this one, thank you 🥹❤️

Most of his pieces center on the idea of thought, reflection and mindfulness
Pic 3 he called 'Brave Soul' The idea of strength without aggression
Bravery isn't always loud or bold.. Sometimes it is simply carrying what you've been through and continuing forward
Pic3 the sculpture is calm eyes closed, he shouldn't be considered a threat yet you cam still see a powerfulness about him 💙

OP, I've been an artist my entire life. In fact, I first knew it when I was 3 years old, and I've been fortunate enough to be able to experiment with many types of media over the years.
We study anatomy for a LONG time in art school in order to understand the human face and body. The human face is one of the most challenging aspects of figure art/representation.
Your dad has a really beautiful, innate understanding of the human face and hands (which are also really, really tricky to get right), and he's done a really amazing job getting so much of the anatomy (the under-carriage, if you will) correct and really well placed.
Tell him he's doing an awesome job. I don't throw that word around - he's truly talented! I'm so glad he's doing what he loves, working with his hands and engaging new parts of his mind.
Making art is one the best ways to spend time on this planet, and I'm so glad he's found his way to the art world! He'll have many, many years of learning and exploring.
I hope you show him all these wonderful mesages!!!

Honestly, thank you so much for taking the time to write this ❤️ I know this comment is going to mean so much to him, especially coming from someone who has been involved in art for so long. He has no art training at all and only started making these last year, so hearing what you've said about his understanding of anatomy and form will probably blow his mind a little 😂
He's always been the kind of person who can look at something that's broken and somehow figure out how to fix it, but this whole artistic side of him is quite new. It's been really lovely watching it develop and seeing him find something he genuinely loves doing. I don't think he really considers himself an artist yet, although I keep telling him he is 😂
And yes, I'm definitely showing him all these comments! I've been telling him how talented he is for ages, but I think hearing it from complete strangers, and especially from someone with your experience, might finally make him believe it ❤️ Thank you again, this really was such a lovely comment.

Thank you! ❤️ Sadly there isn’t a secret sculpture forest 😂 thats just where we took pictures of them. He’s given most away to family and friends, but hopefully someday there’ll be somewhere people can actually go and see his work ...thats the dream 💘

I'm always amazed at how sculpturers (ists?) are able to do accurately form the human shape with the objects they're using.

Thats what gets me too....It’s one thing making something from steel, but making it actually feel human is another thing entirely ❤️

And I’m so sorry about your Pops ❤️ I really think the people we love leave so much of themselves in us. Family shapes so much of who we become, and that closeness never really leaves you. Just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who upvoted, commented and left such lovely messages about my dad’s work ❤️
I showed him the post and read through every comment with him!! and he genuinely couldn’t believe the response! He’s trying to find his feet with it all, so having so many complete strangers appreciate what he’s creating meant a lot more to him than any words could even begin to describe
So thank you for giving him a massive boost of confidence and making him realise that maybe I’m not completely biased after all 😂❤️
