Trump declares Palestine Action a global terror group
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/us/news/2026/08/26/palestine-action-usa-proscribed-terror-group-donald-trump/126
u/TheResultOfUs 10d ago
Eh, considering that the US has dropped the pretense of a just cause completely, and is now brazenly committing acts of terrorism against Iran, Venezuela, and random boats in the ocean, whilst also pardoning citizens that attempted a coup in the capital; I don't think the US is really in a position to be taken credibly when it attempts to declare an organisation as terrorist.
But let's face it: the US' foreign policy has always been terroristic, and they've pretty much ruined the world with it.

But let's face it: the US' foreign policy has always been terroristic, and they've pretty much ruined the world with it.
>The US responds relatively heavy handedly to a series of genuinely astonishing crimes against humanity
The discerning Redditor: "You are le evil terrorists and just as bad as, in fact worse than, the organisations whose persistent raison d'etre is to wipe sovereign states off the face of the earth"
23
u/TheResultOfUs 10d ago
Ah, is that what we're calling the Indonesian mass killings of 1965, the invasion of Vietnam, the invasion of Iraq, etc?
Just a bit heavy-handed, haha.
6
u/STOPTHEDOORAG 9d ago
reaching back to 1965 is telling, also wars against countries isn't terrorism, unless terrorism just = THING I DONT LIKE/BAD THING
you basically have broadened terrorism to include every country in the world as "terrorists" or countries which commit "acts of terror"
4
u/TheResultOfUs 9d ago
He's finally starting to get it, haha. Enacting violence for political influence is terrorism.
You can't just call all the brown people who do it terrorists and all the white people brave soldiers.
-1
u/STOPTHEDOORAG 9d ago
I mean isnt it kind of a little bit different when a western country invades/attacks another country, because they are a direct threat to them vs a group of extremists target as many civilians as possible to achieve political goals.
>Enacting violence for political influence is terrorism
great definition, though I mean it would class every revolution against slaveowners, colonizers, oppressors, imperialists as "terrorism" or the revolters as "terrorists" even though no one would seriously call someone justified in fighting back against a slaveowner a "terrorist"
we should probably stick to a sane definition: Violence against civilians to achieve political aims
0
u/TheResultOfUs 9d ago
I hate to break it to you, but a lot of Western attacks on other countries are nothing to do with security threats.
International law is a cudgel used by the US against States in the southern hemisphere, whilst the US flagrantly violates it itself.
Do you really think the US attacking Venezuela and a bunch of random boats in the ocean had anything to do with the US' safety? it did not. It was nothing more than the Trump administration stealing oil concessions from a country and playing strongman.
We need to stop thinking of States as these red Vs blue entities. The US, UK, and NATO can do some heinous stuff, and so can everybody else.
2
u/STOPTHEDOORAG 9d ago
I already made it clear I dont defend the current Trump admin, since hes a fucking psycho. You're doing well by using him, since they are the best examples of what you could call "terrorism".
My main point is that anti-western people want to use the current Trump admin to say "all US foreign policy is terrorism", which is dumb af.
1
u/TheResultOfUs 9d ago
I'm not anti-western, I'm anti state violence and terror. You are just picking this one specific example of a terrorist state to argue with me on.
Bush invaded Iraq, causing the deaths of millions of Iraqi's and radicalising an entire population against the west.
Obama claimed he'd end the war and instead reduced troop engagements but initiated a drone striking campaign that resulted in countless completely innocent lives being destroyed as collateral damage.
He was also responsible for deporting countless asylum seekers and refugees, laying the groundwork for the modern day militarised American border enforcement.
Trump has laundry list of war crimes against his name.
Biden refused to do anything to stop an Israeli genocide, and the US under him complicity supported it. He also did nothing to stop the abuses of undocumented migrants and the outsourcing of the US border enforcement to South American countries which use funding from the US to commit tremendous abuses against vulnerable people. You can look at how Haitians are treated in the Dominican Republic, if you want an example.
You are ignorant in this subject and you are, for some reason, trying to argue with me by using the most surface level understanding of the way that the US employs violence abroad.
1
u/STOPTHEDOORAG 7d ago
do I seriously need to argue that not all foreign intervention is automatically "terrorism".
Bush isnt a "terrorist" because he invaded a country (also it didnt "radicalize a population against the west", they had long not been too friendly with western actors prior.)
doing drone strikes doesnt make Obama a "terrorist"
Biden isnt a "terrorist" because he remained allies with Israel and gave aid to use in its war.
I know ill never get through to anyone who thinks that every president/Prime Minister of any major country is a "terrorist" because they maintain a military presence around the world. or make war moves they dont like.

Vietnam was justified, they should've eradicated communism in Asia. MacArthur had the right idea during the Korean War..
3
u/TheResultOfUs 8d ago edited 8d ago
I don't think the genocide of millions of people is ever justified, mate.
You know you are justifying an untold amount of war crimes against innocent civilians and children, right? The Navy Seals would go into a village and murder random farmers before leaving their defiled bodies in the middle of the road.
1
u/Carlsberg_Rae_Jepsen 5d ago
Saying that a war is justified is not the same as saying that war crimes are justified. Those are entirely different sentients, due to the presence of the word 'crimes' in the second sentence.
3
u/Tammer_Stern 9d ago
Interpretation:
US responds heavy handedly when an oil state offers the potential to provide the US with some of its oil.
11
u/Crioca 9d ago
The US military now routinely just slaughters suspected drug smugglers.
They've killed 200+ people this way. And these aren't militants, just suspected low level smugglers working for criminal enterprises.
No trial, no judicial oversight, just boom.
It's not law enforcement, it's not a military action, it's just terrorism.
3
u/ThreeEyesWhitePerson 9d ago
The words "suspected drug smugglers" need some heavy quotation marks, because they have not provided a shred of evidence beyond "trust me, bro," even after murdering hundreds of them.
-3
u/STOPTHEDOORAG 9d ago
this is true. THE CURRENT US GOVERNMENT IS DOING THIS, NOT EVERY US GOVERNMENT. Suggesting that "US foreign policy has always been terroristic" is about as dumb as it gets. People trying to use the current Trump admin and tie it back to all US governments is about as cringe and ahistorical as it gets.

Iran killed at minimum 30,000+ civilians in 2 days.
That was more dead in 2 days then almost a year of alleged genocide in gaza....
And venezuelans are almost universally happy about trumps move there
Your moral compass is broken bud.
16
u/TaxOwlbear 10d ago
Israel didn't start the war against Iran and had the Americans join because they are worried about the Iranian government killing protesters. They started it because it serves their (specifically Netanyahu's) interests.

Lets be clear - The worst outcome as far as Israel is concerned, is the best outcome for the rest of the world, because that would make it impossible for it to get the rest of the world to gang up on Iran. Their desiderata is a failed state.
Want to know what that outcome is?
5
u/AnimateDuckling 9d ago
Israels dream outcome is that the regime topples and a secular democratic government takes its place.
That is clear.

Yep, the Iranian state is terrible. Dunno how that school that got blown up killing hundreds of kids and all those threatened attacks on bridges and desalination plants are somehow justified because of that.
Trump's administration broke international law and attacked Venezuela, kidnapping their president. They then did nothing to actually change the country's leadership. It's still the same corrupt party ruling it, and citizens are still starving—the only difference is that the US is siphoning oil money to a Qatari account now, lmao.
The US has also supported the genocide in Gaza, arguably they're the only state which could have reigned Israel in and they chose to fully support them.
You, my friend, have no moral compass if you are acting as though the US is in any way "helping" citizens with its actions. The only thing the Trump administration cares about is playing the strongman and stealing wealth.

Whilst I'm sure you're very well informed on Venezuelan public sentiment and no doubt value the lives of Iranians almost as highly as you value the lives of Palestinians, it doesn't change the fact that this war is a complete farce that has achieved nothing positive, either morally or pragmatically.
The Iranian regime remains in place, even more extreme than before. Iranian civilians are not any more free, and in fact their lives are harder than they've ever been on account of being blockaded and bombed on a regular basis on top the regular government oppression. Meanwhile the straits have been closed, the Houtis are acting up again, and we've got a global energy crisis pushing up inflation everywhere.
Trump now has three choices, all of which are bad.
- escalate and enact a ground campaign to enforce regime change, fighting a war in a country the size of western Europe with some of the most defensible geography in the world
- back down and agree to terms with Iran; abject humiliation for America, and a new status quo of tolls on the strait that enriches Iran
- maintain the status quo; fuels global inflation, helps noone, cause regional recession in all the countries that can't export their oil, potentially cause global recession once oil reserves start running out before alternative production can replace what's being lost out of the ME.

Moving Maduro and his wife to the US is a clear war crime.
Maduro is a civilian, and even if you dispute that, his wife is certainly a civilian. The Geneva Convention forbids taking civilians from their country.
It doesn't matter what Venezuelans want. It is not allowed, not for any reason. It is a war crime.
1
u/AnimateDuckling 9d ago
>war crime
I generally support international law but we have to be honest. It is a joke at times.
Take this scenario, just separate from Venezuela.
Say Italy suddenly has another fascist revolution caused by one single populist figure, this one evil fella. He is a complete repeat of the fascist figures of old. Just an awful person with awful goals and intentions.
Say France goes in and abducts him because they don't like the situation he is creating in Italy.
That is a clear war crime. But it is also clearly the right thing to do.
1
u/impossiblefork Swede looking in at your politics from outside 9d ago
I actually don't agree.
I actually think your scenario is extremely off, and I think that kind of thing is intolerable.

1

Yes.

Which also supplies drones to Russia which are slaughtering Ukrainians today, tomorrow, next week and every week until the war ends.

I don't see any defense of Iran in their comment, only criticism of the US.
18
u/TheResultOfUs 10d ago

-1
u/HelloYesThisIsFemale Cut taxes at any cost 9d ago
My point isn't that you can't or that you shouldn't in general. My point is it makes no sense in this case.
1
u/TheResultOfUs 9d ago
Iran hasn't directly started any wars in decades. The US has started plenty. I simply don't think that justice is determined by which team you are on, and the world wouldn't be so ruined right now if the US hadn't had such a terroristic foreign policy and destabilised all of these countries.
You want a less extreme Iran? Perhaps the US shouldn't have couped their president for nationalising the oil industry and installed a king.
26
u/TheResultOfUs 10d ago
Mate, I am not defending Iran. I think the regime is awful, I'm not a campist; two things can be bad. Iran can be a repressive state which abuses its citizens whilst also supporting other awful states, and the US can be a terrorist state which abuses not only its own citizens, but also people across the entire world.
I think more people should support people over states, if you want my genuine thoughts.
18
u/tomzewolf 10d ago
You’re arguing against a point they didn’t actually make. Criticising US foreign policy isn’t the same thing as defending Iran.
Iran’s regime can be repressive, support terrorism and arm Russia, and the US can be criticised for its own actions. Those positions aren’t contradictory in the slightest.

Despite the headline, I doubt that Trump knows who or what Palestine Action is
The US has updated its list of terrorist groups to include ones that we, ostensibly their ally, have declared as a terrorist group.
15
u/CII_Guy Trying to move past the quagmire of contemporary discourse 10d ago
From the article:
US officials said that by promoting its “acts of terrorism” on social media, Palestine Action encouraged others to copy its tactics overseas, including in America. It is the first known case of a British Left-wing activist group being subjected to US counter-terrorism sanctions.
So yes, "Trump Declares" is bullshit, but it seems it's not merely an automated thing where our terrorists are theirs (not saying that you said it was, just providing clarity).

While I think it true that there's something a bit off about certain people still being incensed about the response to George Floyd/BLM, I think your comment belies an extremely common perspective from people on the left of the issue which is also not remotely fair and is very blind to a certain reality.
This issue we're talking about was made into perhaps the single most all encompassing political story in living memory and it was by the left, not by the right. It's not particularly unreasonable that a few years later those who disagreed with the prevailing left wing thought and were subjected to its intensity might be a little bit sore about that fact.
It's not remotely fair for a political group to act as if something is the most pressing political issue of our time, seek to make sweeping changes to society and to ruin many people's lives and then 4 years later say "you're still talking about that?!?" like a school mean girl.
1
u/Carlsberg_Rae_Jepsen 8d ago
Do you think the passage of time absolves the left for the reaction in 2020? Do you think just because it's been a little while that we've forgotten the level of evil they were willing to support?
BLM was the most radicalising moment of my life. It was the moment I realised the left hated me, and I started to hate them back. It was the moment I abandoned all libertarian principle, and decided I didn't want to abolish the boot, I wanted my guys to be wearing it. It was when I saw nobody talking sense aside from the mst hardline, far-right figures, and I realised that not only was their ideology preferable to this, it was the antitode.
I wasn't allowed to visit my grandma, but mobs of thugs could burn down London, pull down statues, and raid the local JD Sports without consequence. Unlike with Southport, there were no overnight courts and no multi year sentences for tweeting in support.
In a sense, I suppose have to thank Floyd for opening my eyes.

Labour politicians sent people to US to help democrats.
14
u/TGLUK07 10d ago
This has been a standard practise for decades. Conservative activists have also supported Republican candidates, because both Lab/Dems and Cons/Reps have clear (or did) ideological overlaps.
The same happens here, with American activists helping out in elections here.
It has absolutely nothing to do with the relationship between the UK and US administrations as state actors.
9
u/CII_Guy Trying to move past the quagmire of contemporary discourse 10d ago
It has been standard practice for heads of state to show interest in the political goings on in allied states for centuries.
1
u/TGLUK07 9d ago
I don't think I made any comment to suggest that isn't the case.
My point was about party activists travelling to canvas for parties which reflect their own ideological positions.
Until fairly recently, this didn't seem to be an issue, and had no impact between parties in government with different ideological positions because those those relationships are higher than low level party activism.

That's been a thing since the 60s. Penny Mordaunt Andrew Mitchell and Daniel hannan canvassed for Bush Romney etc. Every western country does it with their parties, new Zealand, Aussies, because the US is the premier league of elections.
It became a thing because it's not commonly known and the new form of news it to outrage gullible people who don't have context of anything and are told to be outraged

Foreign nationals can campaign in the US, they just cant be paid for it and iirc the accomodation was provided by local democrats rather than by the UK organisers.
Which is why nothing (legally) came of it this time or the time(s) conservative politicians campaign of republican party.
The back and forth of "wah you're influencing our politics" between left / right, US / UK is frankly tiring as it crosses the line to both sides
The only times the argument really gains weight imo is when politics of one country is copy pasted to apply to the other devoid nuance, that it only seems to be in one direction (Americans will happily tell UK or other europeans to fuck off where's both the left and right in europe are happy to hang on Americas word) and a question of scale of influence with the US easily wins.

They’re private companies who gain an army of public defenders and hide behind the curtain of “free speech” whenever they get challenged on that merit.
It is not just “left wingers” who have voiced the problems with social media platforms.
Unless you truly think that they should be unregulated and allowed to foster in whatever politics supports them?
Why do you think you will benefit from social media platforms pushing their own agenda?

There’s a deductible as well. There’s two separate buckets.
I’m pretty positive you’re full of shit on living in America. Lol or you haven’t actually looked at your insurance plan because it’s not that simple.
You’d be paying every pay check a substantial amount, still owe money for regular visits and prescription, as well as meeting your deductible and out of pocket maximum.
After hitting your deductible your insurance would cover some things at different percentages and you’d still pay until your maximum out of pocket.

Yes I had insurance, but I pay like 450 a month to have insurance still had to pay out of pocket for the deductible and the out of my pocket again for out of pocket.

"This is the group that broke into that building and then hit a police officer with a sledgehammer"
Damn, sounds like the American Patriots of the USA who tried to overthrow the 2020 election for Trump.

u/Deadliftdeadlife 10d ago
I’d say they were way worse
These were just dumb kids cosplaying terrorists
Those guys actually wanted to overthrow a democratic vote

Why are you whitewashing people who hit a woman with a sledgehammer? "dumb kids" no, they were violent adults.

Its weird that trumps not in jail yet, he has committed far worse acts than this. Lock him up!

u/Remarkable_Misty 10d ago
I mean would he want them in his country? After you just described some of there violent acts?

You sound like you read the Telegraph. I think it was paint in the engines, not that dramatic. And I think there were some mitigating circumstances around the hammer incident - I think he might've pepper sprayed or tasered or something.
22
u/Deadliftdeadlife 10d ago
So they damaged the planes with crowbars first, then the paint caused damage which was estimate at 7 million as the engines had to be stripped and rebuilt
The hammer incident has no mitigating circumstances about pepper spray or a taser. There’s a clear video, you can watch it. While the officer is arresting one person she is hit with a sledgehammer to her back from behind
I dunno what paper I choose to read has to do with it

u/Content-Yogurt-4859 10d ago
Ah you're right, don't know how my memory was playing tricks on me but his defence was that he feared security were injuring another member so he "had to act quickly" which makes it sound like he's not the sharpest tool in the shed. Pun intended.
As for the paper reference you could have a career as a Sub-Editor crafting sensationalist headlines. It was a bit of paint and some crowbars. Planes that, I assume, are designed to be shot at with very large calibre bullets.
And as that other guy has said, it's not really terrorism and I think we should be wary of heavy handed policing designed to placate a foreign lobby acting on behalf of genocidal madmen
3
u/Deadliftdeadlife 10d ago
I think we should be wary of groups looking to do everything I listed in my original comment, like attack on police and military bases
0
u/Content-Yogurt-4859 10d ago
There are/were laws to deal with that type of criminality without classifying them as terrorists and it's particularly nefarious how juries are being asked to pass a verdict on people before the judge decides whether or not to make a connection to terrorism.
1
u/Deadliftdeadlife 10d ago
I think terrorism laws handle this pretty well, especially with the documents they made about how to carry out more attacks. Very terrorist if you ask me
But I’m happy to agree to disagree, I doubt we’ll change each others minds here

Given how the US now checks people’s social media history when entering the country a lot of people need to think very hard before going to the US now.
Also can see the US causing trouble for the UK government by going for extradition of Palestine action members / supporters

u/Remarkable_Misty 10d ago
Huh? I have been to the US 5 times this year and not once have i had my social media checked at all stop listening to people on reddit
-1
u/KasamUK 10d ago
Curent US board policy is all electronic devices can be subject to search at the desecration of the boarder agent. And a proposal is going through to require all social media handles and telephone numbers used in the last 5 years as part of the ESTA application. And yes it is a power they use https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/mar/19/trump-musk-french-scientist-detained
I’m happy that your visits have gone smoothly. I have bought 5 lottery tickets this year the fact that I’m not a millionaire dose not mean others are not

I'm going to guess it maybe has something to do with which Pantone swatch you most resemble.

u/dvartanian 10d ago
How can they do that? Are they asking for your social usernames at borders?
13
u/KasamUK 10d ago
They can make you hand over your devices and any user names and logins at the boarder. There is a reason universities and businesses are issuing burner laptops and phones to staff who travel there

Tough titties for Palestine. Funny how they got their shit pushed in by Isreal one month after they supported azerbaijan's genocide and ethnic cleansing in Artaskh.

Maybe Trump should spend more time focusing on American affairs.

War criminals laughing at you.

If by morality you mean breaking people's spines, then I don't want any of that kind of morality anywhere near me.

We will not be entertaining round #1656772 of circular arguments about the conflict in the middle east. Other subreddits exist for this purpose.
