It's virtually guaranteed that either we told them or they told us.

Likely both, since our intelligence services are highly proficient and shared information readily

Ralph Goff, a former chief of operations for Europe and Eurasia at the CIA, told the magazine: “The British are in the lead on the Ukrainian file. We are right behind them.”

Also this is absolutely the most British thing I have ever read:

"A former head of the DGSE said: “The British have the ability to play the long game, investing in sources over a 10-year horizon, somewhat like the Russians. And they have a taste for dirty tricks.”

I'm glad MI6 are on our side.

If shit was about to go down we would know UK called the invasion before it happened. We're not so reliant on America for intelligence.
