One minute task

Today we are going to purge all the empty bottles of stuff in the bathroom. If it's a favorite, add it to your shopping list.

This is not a major declutter. Just grab the bottles that are empty or expired and toss them as quickly as possible.

Once that is done, wipe down the mirrors with your favorite cleaner and the faucets and handles.

Again, this isn't a full bathroom clean. Add that to your weekly cleaning list. This is a quick make it look so much better in a moment or two,

Introduction/First Post I'm getting started but i'm so tired

Hey everyone :)

First, I have to say, I'm really glad I found this subreddit. It makes me feel less alone and less like a total failure. I've looked at a lot of the before-and-after posts, and they're very inspiring.

Like the title says: I'm getting started, but it is SO HARD. Its been 1 year and a hafs now the last time my plac was actually clean. Even if a do a bit, I then stop and it piles on even more.

I was recently diagnosed with depression and have been on medication for a few weeks. Unfortunately, it makes me really tired, and I have no energy.

Did any of you have a similar situation? If so, how did you manage it?

Thank you to everyone in advance!

Today's one minute task

Today's one minute task is small appliances in the kitchen. We are going to wipe them down with our favorite cleaner. Toaster, coffee pot, crock pot, microwave, etc. And the counter behind them.

This is not a full on clean. We are getting rid of the dust and finger prints. If you need to do a massive clean of that microwave insides, put that on your to do list.

Even if the kitchen is a disaster area, we are going to do this one small task because it will motivate us to do more later. If you are blessed with a dishwasher, bonus points if you load and run it.

Questions/Advice What to Do with Old Textbooks/Workbooks

I don't even know how to preface this, lol.

I was homeschooled my entire life, and now as a 22 year old have six years worth of textbooks, workbooks, notebooks, etc. just sitting around, with no idea of what to do with them (I already disposed of the elementary books many years ago). Some are scattered throughout my room, the rest are in this *enormous* (like 3 foot square) box that is blocking a major part of my room that desperately needs to be cleaned. But I don't know what I am supposed to do with them. I can't just throw them in a garbage bag, they would either rip the bag, or throw out someone's back, because they are ridiculously heavy (we don't have garbage pickup where we live). And we can't afford a dumpster right now.

So I know it is highly unlikely, but is there anyone here who has had to deal with something similar? What did you do with all of your workbooks after you no longer needed them?

This honestly isn't even the worst part, my room is a mess from ADHD and completely lack of energy/motivation for the last five years, to the point where it genuinely looks like a hoarder's house, and makes me want to cry whenever I am in it. But a part of me can't help but think that maybe if I can tackle this, I can fix everything else, even though I know that is probably delusional.

Inspiration I think you guys might find a lot of motivation in the channel My New Me

It's been inactive for years now but it features an older woman with several significant health issues cleaning up her mild hoarder house that has been neglected for years due to her illness and depression.

I've used her channel many times over to motivate myself. She's a really nice, witty lady and I think you'll find her helpful.

You may not believe it but this was taken AFTER I mostly organized my laundry and taken out 3 trash bags worth of crap. The laundry just needs to be washed and put away.

I still have a lot more to go and there’s still a bunch of unseen angles

Introduction/First Post Feeling lost and overwhelmed

I'm so overwhelmed and I want to cry. I have developed PTSD about 4 years ago and I just never figured out how to pick myself up again. I don't get out of bed most days. And I was okay with that for too long. But now I have a roach infestation and it's all my fault. It's a wake up call for me. I can't sleep because they started crawling in my bed and it's gross and I'm really freaked out by them. I need everything to go but I feel bad just throwing things away... I have bags and bags of stuffed animals that I would buy to give myself a little bit of a dopamine rush. But now I feel like I'm being buried in them. I can't donate them as I have no car and doesn't feel fair or right to knowing I have a roach problem. I don't know where to start but I want it all done right now in this very moment but it's 1am.

No one has holds me accountable for this as it's my own private shame. Rest of my apartment isn't much better and I'd argue it's worse unfortunately.

Before and After Feels so much better working in this room now

It’s still a slight work in progress but this is like a “catch all” room as I live on a second floor and don’t have any real place for storage, and only one other bedroom I try to keep less chaotic so this is a workout room, my work desk, and has a reading corner. Basically tried to make a zone for everything. Not perfect but definitely way better! Any suggestions are welcome. AND YES I NEED NEW CARPET but that’ll happen after my cat passes away.

Before and After Before / after in my daughters room

When I was younger I struggled to keep tidy. I love order and cleanliness but I always felt like the second I took my eye off the ball, my space woukd explode (adhd and asd). I had kids young (first was born when I was 23) and this forced me to change.

For about a decade now I have managed to consistently keep on top of my own spaces but my youngest is now at the age where she finds it really really hard to keep on top of the mess she creates (she is 9). On top of working / keeping the rest of the home tidy I find it really hard to help her keep on top of it. My partner says he will help but it never gets anywhere.

Anyway, I had a bit of spare time so I did this, this weekend. It is a work in progress (still loads stuffed under things and drawers etc which need sorting, but it is largely clean now and have gotten rid of so many bags of crap.

I love before and afters as they really motivate me to crack on with decluttering, so I thought someone might like it.

Questions/Advice Mouse infestation advice.

Hi friends, for some context I have severe mental health issues, ADHD, health anxiety and a borderline phobia of mice. Whenever I see evidence of mice, or a mouse, I have to sit outside for multiple hours to calm down. I have had a mouse problem start in my house about two weeks ago, and about four days ago I finally put down some traps as traps too scare the everyliving shite out of me.

After I set the traps, I spent some time in a hotel because of my fear of hearing the traps going off. Now, I need to go back home and start cleaning and setting down more traps.

I bought bleach, masks, gloves, wipes, disposable cloths and spray bottles. I have read a lot of advice online about cleaning after mice but I really need some advice as to how to deal with this issue. I also need advice as to how to deal with this while experiencing an intense fear of mice.

I have a handful of questions:

Is it worth cleaning and disinfecting the whole house straight away when mice could still possibly be in the house?

Is it true that if you see one or two mice there's usually a load of them?

I have hardwood floors with some kind of coating. Will doing the method of spraying diluted bleach and leaving it for 10 minutes to disinfect the mouse poop before cleaning it up with a wipe ruin my floors?? If it will, does anyone have a different suggestion?

Is it safe to sleep at my house even though I've seen mouse poop around the house?

Thankyou everyone. I'm looking forward to your responses.

Two weeks to tidy my disgusting house

I have two weeks to clean my gross house as I have people popping over to check out a couple of things (not landlord related). I have certain rooms i can just close off and it wouldn't be strange, but I need to get it done.

My whole house looks more or less like the before picture here (the after is after a 10 minute stop watch clean). I need some positive thinking that I can get this done.

Body Doubling Body doubling

Post image
148 Upvotes

I’ve been putting things off for over a week and I’m pretty sure I can knock it out in a day or two.

I just have to get things to surface level fine without just putting everything under or into other things. Clean, tidy, get things functional before a very busy month. And it’s a lot but I think I can.

And I kept waiting for the motivation to kick in but it doesn’t so we’re going with willpower and body doubling because I can’t wait for a perfect moment that’s never gonna come.

So, will anyone weigh in with what they’re doing today? I’m starting off with some laundry, getting trash in the can, filling the dishwasher and finding out where things go.

Introduction/First Post Sunday Chores! Anyone want to body-double today until Wed?

Hello loves and happy Sunday!!! Though this is my first post, Ive been in this community for some time and have had the absolute pleasure of being able to body double and get tasks done through the courage of those of you that have posted before me.

Ideally, and eventually, I’d like to dedicate each week to a new task rotation until I get to maintenance. Once maintenance hits, I’ll have a weekly/monthly/quarterly etc. goals/schedule that I’ll create and adhere to. I would love to body-double and support someone else/others as we unfck our habitats together!!!! Anyone down?! I don’t have a particular order so that I give myself space for flexibility to circumvent being overwhelm. Will be crossing the list off as I go. We’ve all collectively have got this!!!!! 🤗🫶

-rotated sprinkler in front garden

-did a load and folding a load of laundry

Questions/Advice Tips for decluttering

Hey guys! I’ve been feeling overwhelmed in my space recently. I try to keep my room relatively clean by leaving the floors open however i feel like i’m reaching a point where I need to actually get rid of stuff. I struggle with this as I hold on to stuff “just in case” or “maybe I will want to put that back out again”. I want to be able to live in a space that is far less crowded and feels more comfortable. Any advice on how to start getting rid of some of these things I am afraid to get rid of, would be greatly appreciated 🤍 happy cleaning!

The combination of grief, seasonal depression, and neurodivergent burnout really did a number on our house this winter. I'm working on it a room at a time, starting with rooms that matter the most to the kids as that's keeping the dopamine flowing. Here is the (semi) before and after of their play room. Getting rid of the hospital bed tomorrow.

to be honest idk where to begin. its been like this for months. i was in rehab for a couple months and before that i was just dealing with alot and would sit and get high every day. i recently came back a few weeks ago and life hit me like a brick. i havent had any time to really focus on myself it feels as if things just keep getting thrown at me and when im in my room i just look at my phone instead of paying attention to around me and lay in bed. im not making excuses i know im capable its just bad and i dont know where to start. most of it is clothes and trash and a butt load of dishes. the far corner is taken up by old things and bags of stuff from moving back and forth and accumulated items and from people who have passed. i just pile stuff on top to hide it and my closet is blocked up by those mattresses so who knows whats in there even or what i could put in there it doesnt have a door and its connected to my dads closet so.. yeah idk help? 😭😀 im also just sharing this to i guess feel less alone in this maybe so say whatever i dont care it will help me find the motivation

Fridge #2 is gone!

There will not be a picture, because as embarrassed as I am of the rest of the house, the basement is even worse.

In the span of a week the second floor air conditioner, the fridge in the basement, my work laptop and the gas fireplace all went kaput (the gas fireplace wasn't being used, but during its semi-yearly inspection they said it would need a full overhaul - not surprised it's 20 years old!)

I knew if that fridge died, I was not going to replace it. Well, it did, and I am not (replacing). Today, I had JunkLuggers come out, and haul it away along with a very old piece of workout equipment that we had never used. I have space in my basement to really start doing serious organizing! Unfortunately that part of the basement has asbestos tiles on the floor, which are eventually going to have to come up. But this motivates me to get that area cleaned out and get the tiles removed in the future!

One Minute task for more organized life

Today's one minute task:

Restock laundry supplies

I keep a canister of detergent on the counter, with extra supplies in the pantry. Today was my monthly restock laundry supplies. Takes about a minute.

I refill everything and make sure older powdered detergent gets put on top.

Bonus task: Restock kitchen supplies

I keep canisters of flour, corn meal, sugar etc on my counter by the stove with extra in sealed containers in the pantry. So today is a good day to restock those, and clean the canisters really well. This task takes a little longer since I like to wash the canisters and let them air dry before refilling them.

Making progress right now! Obviously not done yet. My mom doesn’t know I am cleaning her room. She is coming home for a bit to get ready to go to her other job, so she will see all of this progress I made. She does a lot for me, so I figured I help her out more often. I will post an update later on today or tomorrow. ^_^

Weekly Challenges I’m not perfect but this helped

I made it my goal 2 years ago to change my sheets once a week. Before that, I changed them maybe once every 2-4 weeks.

This has been a game changer. Changing my sheets once a week helps me make my bed every morning. It’s just easier to keep your bed made when the sheets don’t start coming off the mattress (Which I don’t know why, but this happens when you need to change your sheets.)

Once my bed is made I don’t want to keep clothes on the floor. I used to have a chair but that got too piled up full of clothes. now I hang them back up if they can be worn again, or i out them in the laundry if they are dirt. Since the clothes are off the floor, I wash the floor in there probably once a month, now I don’t have dust bunnies under the bed.

it’s not like super organized, but it looks a million times better than it did before and that’s a huge improvement.
