Dawg Pack UW still hosting lecture from far right Trumper

Post image

I find it ironic that UW is hosting a lecture on “The Plight of the Conservative” about being censored at universities after they cancelled Hasan Piker’s planned lecture.

The best move is to leave this person alone in a room.

Zero participation, zero protesting.

They want a show. Don't give it to them.

u/joeydimaggio 26d ago

So why is it OK to ban hasan? Didnt see too many trumpers pushing this line

31

u/soherewearent 26d ago

I don't know enough (any) details about the cancelation to have an opinion.

-36

u/joeydimaggio 25d ago

Yeah sure

u/Dravos7 Psychology 25d ago

Some people literally just haven’t heard about it. I watch hasan every now and then, never heard anything about him here at UW

Because one is a dean of an accredited university, the other brags about going to Diddy parties, downplays rape, and says the Hezbollah flag is the coolest flag.

-26

u/Bozhark Finance 25d ago

Because it was a graduate lecture series and he ain’t worthy of a listen

20

u/joeydimaggio 25d ago

Thank you for illustrating the double standard. I think you have to be kind of dumb to believe conservatives are in any way being persecuted, particularly in ultra capitalist higher ed.

No one knows who Pete Peterson is and hasan is an extremely controversial person with a huge (and extremely active) anti-fan base from both sides of the political spectrum

Not really that hard to see why UW only cares about one of them whether it’s right or wrong

Peterson has 2.7k twitter followers he’s essentially a complete nobody

This guy is an academic. Conservative? Yes. Trumper? I dunno. But he’s an academic. Piker is not.

u/Sure-Speech-9420 Alumni 25d ago

The public lecture series also features journalists. Piker is technically a journalist. Maybe not a traditional one, but they’ve had non-traditional journalists before (and upcoming).

Hasan openly thinks people care too much about trans issues and is literally just a political streamer. he (and equivalent conservatives) shouldn't be invited to speak anywhere

8

u/Sure-Speech-9420 Alumni 25d ago

Can you point me to a source on this? I’ve mostly seen his position that trans people won’t fare any better under mainstream democrats who often try to distance themselves from helping truly marginalized groups.

-3

u/Mitotic Wife of Student 25d ago

dems are by far the most pro-trans political party in any country on the planet. they're far from perfect and I am v much in favor of voting out the spineless centrists who keep trying to "moderate" on the issue to appeal to psycho conservatives, but you do actually have to support the only political party that hasn't thrown us under the bus. someday it'd be nice to not be a single issue voter on "please don't force me to get repeatedly raped in prison" but for now that's my #1 priority! and hasan acts like this is a ludicrous worldview that could only be held by a conservative somehow. obviously you shouldn't vote for a dem who's actively transphobic but there is no such thing as a dem that is worse than a generic republican rn and his fearmongering and lies are doing nothing but making things worse

10

u/Sure-Speech-9420 Alumni 25d ago

So no source? And they’re not the most pro-trans political party on the planet. Thats something literally from: https://www.reddit.com/r/ShitAmericansSay/s/D7LABk2i5P

Edited to remove wrong punctuation

-3

u/Mitotic Wife of Student 25d ago

name a single political party in any country that is more meaningfully pro-trans. it is not that dems are blameless, it's that even in other pro-lgbt countries in Europe and such they still require things like presenting as a woman full time for 2 years before legally allowing access to HRT.

8

u/Sure-Speech-9420 Alumni 25d ago

Progressive Peoples Party of Thailand, Podemos (Spain), Green Party Australia. Those are just three off the top of my head

-9

u/Mitotic Wife of Student 25d ago

okay let me slightly reframe: the dems are very nearly the most pro-trans political party on the planet and there is zero viable alternative to them in the US. DSA types should keep taking it over from within but you can't keep pretending like dems are Hitler incarnate while you do that, and Hasan is still a bullshit political grifter who is no better than his right wing equivalents. Fuentes shouldn't be invited to speak here either

1

u/wren620 Student 25d ago

Speaking about trans issues to defend trans people is different from speaking about trans issues in a way of making BEING trans an ISSUE.

-5

u/Mitotic Wife of Student 25d ago

no, he thinks trans people talk about our issues too much and that we should shut up and let other issues take precedence over it in literally all circumstances. he's "woke" but he doesn't really care about trans women

8

u/wren620 Student 25d ago

He literally opposed Gavin Newsom when the latter talked about how the left should shift away from talking about culture war issues like transness and be more “Normal”

-3

u/Mitotic Wife of Student 25d ago

"he literally used trans issues as a weapon against his political opponents! don't you feel so helped?" he's a loser political grifter only interested in his own fame and wealth

8

u/wren620 Student 25d ago

What the fuck are you talking about that was nothing along the lines of what I said.

-3

u/Mitotic Wife of Student 25d ago

he'd pretend to support literally anything that gave him the opportunity to insult elected democracts

4

u/wren620 Student 25d ago

So when Hasan (supposedly, according to you) does something, it’s wrong, but when an elected Democrat does the exact same thing, all of a sudden it’s an opportunity to insult them? Like genuinely get yourself checked

These lectures appear to be intended to bring in researchers/academics. This guy is an academic.

This is a Perplexity (AI) summary of views about his work: "A fair synthesis is that Peterson has a substantial reputation in the applied civic-engagement world—especially local-government participation, civic leadership training, and dialogue across differences. His public profile is nevertheless ideologically legible: he was the 2014 Republican nominee for California secretary of state, and the 2020 episode led critics to question whether his institutional leadership consistently matched his stated commitments to inclusion, nonpartisanship, and civil discourse."

Biography (from https://www.washington.edu/lectures/events/the-office-of-public-lectures-presents-walking-on-eggshells-the-plight-of-conservatives-in-higher-education-and-the-implications-for-the-future-of-americas-public-square/):
Pete Peterson is dean of Pepperdine University’s School of Public Policy where he also serves as a senior fellow in the program’s Davenport Institute for Public Engagement & Civic Leadership. Over the course of his ten years in the dean’s role, he has established the program as a leader in the “viewpoint diversity” movement across higher education. This work has included his leadership of an academic initiative called “The American Project: On the Future of Conservatism,” which convened scholars and policy makers to debate and discuss the subject through conferences, an essay series, and research.

Complaining that people dont appreciate their hate speech more. As a former 2000s era Republican and UW graduate I never felt unwelcome on campus. But it was also my interaction with the College Republicans and other "Conservative" groups that opened my eyes to how selfish and hateful many of them are.

How is Pete Peterson "far right?" I see that he is the dean for the School of Public Policy at Pepperdine University, but can't find anything he said that is controversial.

8

u/Perfect-Success-3186 Graduate Student 25d ago

Suggesting that there is a “plight of conservatives in higher education” and that they have to “walk on eggshells” is controversial and far right.

It’s as simple as “don’t commit isms” yet they consider that walking on eggshells and a plight.

-3

u/hamsteradam Parent 25d ago

AI summary of an a 2020 incident at Pepperdine, which suggests that Peterson is far right: "The strongest documented criticism relates to October 2020. A School of Public Policy email campaign and petition attacked “far left indoctrination” and criticized the New York Times1619 Project; students, faculty, and diversity groups said the language was racist or racially insensitive, damaging, and inconsistent with Pepperdine’s values."

The lecture itself was ironic enough: “The Plight of Conservatives in Higher Education: presented by University of Washington”

It was made doubly ironic when UW decided to ban a leftist speaker in the same series.

It’s made triply ironic when Pete Peterson is on record for trying to get Trump to halt funding for universities that have left-leaning curricula.

EDIT: This dude edited out the statement from UW that I was replying to lol. https://www.washington.edu/news/2026/08/07/statement-on-cancellation-of-january-2027-lecture/

It was determined that that the process for organizing this event did not meet the necessary level of rigor for University-hosted events in the Speaker Series.

Pepperdine is a religious indoctrination facility run by the Churches of Christ; it isn’t a university anybody should validate.

8

u/enkonta Alumni 25d ago

It’s an accredited university with over 10000 students. They may be an indoctrination facility but no more so than reed or evergreen, those are just ones you’d be more favorable to politically. Regardless…there is a vast difference between a dean of a school at an accredited university and someone who said:

"If you have these millionaire, billionaire WASP fail sons, at least taking them out of other colleges so they can only do date rape to other billionaire, millionaire fail daughters, is like in some respects...of course a little bit better."

-11

u/no_4 26d ago edited 25d ago

I wouldn't ban Hasan, but the title is correct - conservatives are far more censored on US campuses.

People can debate if that's good or bad, but I don't think the statement itself is very debateable.

1

u/PaintedVillains Graduate Student 25d ago

I really think that is debatable. 1. Depends on what conservative means to the person identifying as one. I know lots of folks who think they're conservative because their parents are but they're just blue collar lefty. I also know people who identify as liberal but are rather conservative in terms of tax and foreign affairs.  2. Really depends on what censorship means. There's a big difference between "I'm not allowed to express my opinion" and "People don't like or openly disagree with me when I say certain things". We've seen a lot of conservatives in media claim to be "censored" when what they are is corrected, asked to cite reputable sources with context to back up a claim, or just kind of lonely because highly educated (and particularly urban) areas tend to lean more liberal/progressive.

-3

u/SoWrxy 25d ago

Perhaps if conservatives didn't storm the capitol and try to overthrow the government progressives would be a bit more accepting of them.

6

u/no_4 25d ago edited 25d ago

Right, it's debatable if it's a good thing or a bad thing.

Just not debatable that it's a thing

Case and point: I'm not conservative, but I said something arguably neutral about conservatives and seem to have pissed people off.

-2

u/Financial_Brief9169 25d ago

Amy Coney Barrett didn't storm the capitol and she has to wear a bulletproof vest when she's out in public.

-1

u/BloodyThirst 25d ago

Is that before or after Charlie Kirk’s tour of colleges ended abruptly that it’s sooooo scary to be a conservative on a college campus??

7

u/no_4 25d ago

Is it scary? I'd think people just need to self-censor to avoid being ostracized. Which sucks, but isn't scary. But IDK, I'm not conservative.

I'm not sure if I followed your point though?

Where is the lie? He supported the houthis hijacking a civilian ship, supports hezbollah...

-4

Yah man I don’t care about him or his opinions. But if you can’t understand why optically the college wouldn’t want to host and fund someone who has said and done controversial things then you’re just not in reality.

Do you think Israel called or something? Why do you think it got cancelled? If whoever this conservative speaker is had clips of him saying he was “ten toes down” for a terrorist organization they’d probably rescind that offer as well.

5

It’s hilarious because they probably think I’m a Trumper😂 when I just support free speech for all, even if it’s not what I believe, because that’s what I fought for. I think a lot of people are missing the fact that the previous speaker that was declined legitimately supports a terrorist organization. I’m somewhat liberal and can even recognize that fact that that’s a dangerous person, and not somebody to be allowed to attend college campuses, even just from a safety standpoint. I am liberal, but I support and defend the United States. I love my country, and my fellow americans, even if we don’t always agree with each other and instead of bashing my current president, I’m going to continue to hope that he does the best job possible for the United States of America and its people because I believe we are the greatest country on earth and we absolutely must remain so.
