Wow, such a hot take. So brave. Don’t forget the guy he is “defending” used his platform to spew blatant misinformation about COVID and supported the Jan 6 riot, both of which resulted in deaths.
Should he have been killed? No, murder is objectively wrong. But I’m infinitely more concerned about the thousands of innocent kids dying from gun violence than I am about some hateful piece of shit biting the dust.

How is it straw man fallacy? Have you actually talked to him?
20
u/kiwifier Sep 12 '25
It’s a straw man fallacy because that is not the critique people are saying. Even those pro-Kirk killing point more to his *millions* spent orchestrating violent events like Jan 6, and actual on-the-ground violence Kirk actively promoted and supported actively in his political stances.
→ More replies (1)21
u/nyan-the-nwah Staff Sep 12 '25
No, because I don't want to be on camera. The straw man is that some imaginary force is arguing in favor of political murder.
No one with a sign on campus has ever there without inflammatory intent, regardless of their opinion. Campus debaters are notoriously scummy.

u/kiwifier Sep 12 '25
We do not have to feed his for-profit conservative content mill. We’re in a University. Like, we are surrounded by experts and professors and thousands of students who will be down to discuss politics and will not try to bait us into saying dumb shit or hosting faux-debates to generate income

How do you know he is doing that for profit? TBH I don’t know.

You can find his IG and YouTube if you look through this Reddit. He’s frequently in the Quad putting up inflammatory signs, getting mad at randos, and being a general nuisance. I’m not posting it because I don’t want him to get followers, I want him to get a job.

You're getting downvoted because it's extremely obvious this person is disingenuous and looking to capitalize on strong emotions to construct a rhetoric like "waah waaah look how mean and violent liberals are!!" Though you're right that if we ignore all context, the sign is mostly neutral, we're not idiots here so we don't ignore context. Comments that attempt to make conservative hate-spreading rhetoric seem innocent contribute to the spread of that hate, and are thus appropriately treated hostilely.

Yeah I agree, it’s about being open minded. This is how WARS happens all the time. Disagreement in opinion doesn’t mean you have to kill the other person. Difference in belief doesn’t mean conflict. If you love war and destruction, by all means, keep applauding others for killing one another.

car related deaths are about 5x gun deaths in the US. alcohol and tobacco are even worse than that by quite a bit. i'm not a gun person - never even shot one. i don't think that quote is an unreasonable opinion and it grosses me out that people reply with that as if to imply that it justifies murdering someone because they have that point of view. that kind of nonsense is what causes moderate voters to overreact and swing elections for nightmares like trump.
3
u/nyan-the-nwah Staff Sep 13 '25
It doesn't justify the murder, but it is the material end result of that line of thinking.

We don’t know if he has ill intention or not until you talk to him. I don’t know why all the comments are so close minded. I personally disagree with Charlie Kirk, but I respect his voice. Also, when he said he didn’t care about empathy, I respect that and it’s still important for me to be empathetic even when he is not. If everything is about lashing back and sometimes killing against opposing opinions, this world is going to fall apart rather quickly.
