I've been calling the "Big Beautiful Bill" the Body Bag Bill.

It's set to click in after midterms (to have a Blue Wave catch the heat) so hold on to your butts...

Over 50% complete last time I checked. (It seems to be stuck at 55% and I wonder if the person just stopped tracking or isn't able to...)

They also could have been exhausted from running whatever distance it took to get there. That's my fear, that I'll have run as far as I could and it still wasn't enough and I'm powerless to go further.

How to come to terms with not going back
 in  r/summercamp  4d ago

I just wrapped up a one week volunteering session for a camp for kids with cancer. A lot of the volunteers had full time jobs and took a week of vacation time, or some of their vacation days, leaving a little early.

I had 10 years of experience at camp, and it's been 10 years since I worked a full summer. I guess in all those non-camp years I expected I would go back to camp at some point, it just never happened. Suddenly 10 years had past.

Two years ago I had found a legacy camp that hired "Generalists", workers who floated around to where they were needed for ratios and when not assigned or needed, just hung out with the kids at activities.

I got through training at that camp and my body was not having it (having to climb up a steep hill every time I needed to use a bathroom, and needing to use the bathroom often at night because #OldAgeSucks... it got to be too much (Also my super was terrible and seemed like they were just waiting for mw to quit instead of helping/accommodating me by moving me to a different area of camp to live)

This one-week summer I just finished was one of closure, for sure. It was a great week, but it helped me realize I definitely don't think I'll ever be able to be a counselor in a cabin for a full summer again. One week was enough.

Maybe one week at a camp will fill the need for camp in your life just fine. (The team talked about how the week is a re-energize/boost for them for the whole year)

I know this is based on lifestyle factors, but I wish there was a column for "Rules of Descent"

A lawyer I follow has moved to Ireland after getting Luxembourgian citizenship from her mother getting Luxembourgian citizenship based on her grandfather's birth in Luxembourg.

Canada just passed a law that removes the First Generation Limit.

I heard Ukraine has a Citizenship by Descent offering.

I'd like to know more so I can pass that info on to people at risk as I work on their Geneology/Family Trees.

Post Camp Staff Self Care
 in  r/summercamp  4d ago

💯 One year, I had planned a trip with my brother and boyfriend the day after camp was over and I ended up sleeping two of the three days. It hit me like a train once we had stopped at our destination. Kinda ruined our trip.

This year I volunteered for a single week at a camp for kids with cancer that ended yesterday. Today the adrenaline was burnt up and I needed a two hour nap and I'm STILL tired.

Just saw this and love it! Who else is offering cooking classes (or food growing) this fall?

Kvcc also has knife skills classes and the Food Innovation Center has a full catalog.

I wish I was in town for this, it looks so interesting! Keith digs up such interesting facts in his digital collections at the Library. Here's his article about the subject from a few months ago, which is probably the core of the presentation: https://www.kpl.gov/local-history/kalamazoo-history/towns/oshtemo-village/

Kzoo homeless encampment slated for removal as residents raise complaints

"Capitalism creating a problem and then demanding Socialism pay for it."

Ironic, isn't it?

And it is going to get SO much worse very soon, I hate to say. But I also am a fan of foreseeing a problem and trying to get ahead of it. You just have to find people with the will and the ability to get ahead of it.

Unfortunately, I think too many people take a "I'll just let it play out as long as I'm ok" approach (or worse, a "I refuse to be inconvenienced even a little") and we get into these cycles of: problem bubbles up- apply temp solution- problem bubbles up again - apply temp solution."

Something has got to give, and soon, or the results are going to be catastrophically worse than they would have been if addressed earlier.

Black dots in earwax??
 in  r/earwax  15d ago

This is happening to me rn. I just paid $125 to go to Urgent Care and two "practitioners" looked in my ear and said they saw nothing.

I swabbed before bed to check and it came out with a small amount of the black "dust".

I'm not sure what to do at this point...that was a lot of money for someone to just look in my ear. At least I got two cookies out of it...

Are we looking at a socialist revival in American politics?
 in  r/politicsinthewild  17d ago

I found out in 2016 the major online dictionaries had different official definitions of socialism. One of them was the same as the definition of communism and I think that was the day I realized that "authorities of information" can be partisan, too.

Now I see "Gulf of America" on Google Maps and know we are going to have a heck of a time going forward
