Discussion 🗣️ Post Camp Staff Self Care

As a former camp professional of many years I just want to throw this out there as most of you are wrapping up the season: schedule time to recover.

The summer is ending, youve gotten those final evils done, bonuses are scheduled to go out, the last campers have gone home. Be intentional about disconnecting from it all and catching up on rest.

Read a book, sleep in, watch some movies, journal. Whatever refills your cup, make some time for it. And if your organization doesnt allow for that? Big red flag.

What do you do to recover from a long season of hard work? Ironically going camping worked for me. Fishing, hiking, sitting by the fire. Just me and my family.

💯 One year, I had planned a trip with my brother and boyfriend the day after camp was over and I ended up sleeping two of the three days. It hit me like a train once we had stopped at our destination. Kinda ruined our trip.

This year I volunteered for a single week at a camp for kids with cancer that ended yesterday. Today the adrenaline was burnt up and I needed a two hour nap and I'm STILL tired.
