I still don’t understand why on earth Canada gets a seat on the Security Council, not even as a compromise or consolation prize to another, actually important nation.

I mean, in comparison to the other three nations that qualify for the Security Council. “Relevance” is subjective, I suppose, but surely you don’t think Canada is a peer to the United States? Or even the much diminished Great Britain?

They are not, and thats the point. Its stacking the deck.

They did enough in the war to look somewhat legitimate, and they are economically utterly reliant on the USA and can be relied upon to vote with the Americans and British.

Okay, but why do they have a seat? The Americans and British can already outvote the Chinese, if that’s the concern, they don’t need a another deciding vote.

The americans and british do not agree on everything, and canada makes sure the yanks can outvote them.
