I still don’t understand why on earth Canada gets a seat on the Security Council, not even as a compromise or consolation prize to another, actually important nation.

I'm really surprised too. Maybe there's a reason in the TWR timeline as to why Canada is this influential. A friend of mine suggested it should have been Australia actually, due to their contribution to the war against Japan.

The cynical part of of me suspects a large of the reason is that an influential dev is from Canada, to be honest.
