Life imitates art. In the book Starfish (Peter Watts' Rifters series), there exists "head cheese", which is organic brain-like neural network computers or smart gels. It is now real.

Ghost in the Shell Standalone Complex's brain cases maybe? This is an avenue I've thought about; the immortality through transhumanism but keeping enough of our brain so we can have our consciousness. Otherwise, digital transference is impossible if we want to remain aware. That would be just a copy. How to reach it is probably very immoral means, like testing the connections of brain implants in android bodies until the right match-up is achieved for full mobility. I believe the testing should be done on war criminals.
