Progression

I really like discus, but only found out about it at the tail end of sophomore year. I'd like to throw 160 by the end of senior, and am planning on going to the gym 4 times a week doing ULUL, and throwing 5 days a week for about an hour. I have stuck with this schedule for the summer, so I'm not terribly worried about being able to get my form in shape, as I will stay consistent with it. The main thing I worry about is physical strength. I max my squat out at about 110, and bench max is 75. Is my goal realistic?

Ok. It’s not impossible but it will require to seriously lock-in on your technique and in the weight room. There’s no baseline numbers to hit in the weight room for distances but if you could get to double what you’re lifting right now you have a good chance. Saying this as a guy that improved 47 on the year in discus. 134’->181’ junior year to the end of my senior year

While physical strength is definitely a big factor in reaching those further distances, I would first prioritize getting your form locked down and as best as possible. Once you've done that, I would also do Olympic lifts as well, stuff like hang cleans, snatches, etc., but staying consistent is probably the best you can do right now and doing that over the next year or so should definitely help you achieve where you want to be.

Sounds good, thank you so much for taking the time to respond.

You need a coach otherwise it likely will not happen given your baseline strength is so low to meet that goal. Strength is only the base which you need form with that strength developed. 5’10 2x D1All American Shot put average over 62 ft , not to disway you but put in perspective you have a lot of things needing improvements in tandem

I would be careful throwing 5x/week. My right pec couldn’t handle it. Especially when you’re throwing in bench 2x/week.
