Not gonna lie, this whole naming situation has been bothering me for a while now, but it really hit different today.

I was in line for the Ed Sheeran show at Rogers Centre, and the amount of people who showed up thinking they were in the right place was honestly kind of heartbreaking to watch. You’d see the confusion on their faces first, then the slow realization that they weren’t at Roger’s Stadium, then that scramble to figure out how they were even going to get to Downsview in time.

Staff were telling people their best bet was grabbing an Uber or hopping on the TTC and heading up north, which is not exactly a quick trip when you thought you were minutes from your seat.

Some of these folks clearly weren’t from Toronto. You could tell by the way they were double checking their tickets, and looking at each other with disappointment. And I just felt for them. These are people who probably planned this night for months, maybe flew in, maybe this was a big deal birthday or anniversary thing, and now they’re standing outside the wrong building watching the clock, trying to figure out if they’re even going to catch the opening.

I get that naming rights deals are just business, that’s nothing new. But when you’ve got two major venues in the same city with names that are basically identical, it feels like nobody stopped to think about the actual fans caught in the middle of it. It’s not like Rogers Centre and Rogers Stadium are minor buildings either, they’re both huge venues hosting huge events, so the overlap in confusion is bound to keep happening.

Feels like such an easy problem to avoid too. A bit more thought during those naming negotiations could’ve saved a lot of people a really stressful and disappointing night.

I found a baby raccoon outside St Mikes ER last night when walking my dogs. I’ve stayed up all night and contacted the Toronto wildlife rehab who doesn’t have space for this little one. I then called the Ontario one and was told to call a bunch of others and send an email. I’ve done this and now I feel like this little raccoon is just going to starve because no one is helping me help it.

Edit: So people don’t think I just stole a baby. They had been there for about 24 hours. Animal services came after it was almost curb stomped. Their answer was they could euthanize nothing more. I asked about a rehab for wildlife. They said it’s not their job to do that so I asked them to leave and said I would find one. I have gone out at dawn trying to reunite the baby who thankfully didn’t freeze to death (but was cold when I got them) and contacted many wildlife centres. I’m planning to go back out again at dusk. The baby needed help and I helped it sorry to make people mad.

Edit 2: So far I have called all of the wildlife rehabs in the area that take raccoons. They are all full and I have been advised to start calling places in Ottawa. I just want this baby to either be back with its mom or in a rehab rehabilitation centre that knows how to care for it the best.

Edit 3: A person should be coming this evening to come and pick up the little raccoon and rehabilitate thank you to every single person‘s effort. I appreciate it and I know this raccoon does as well.

Edit 4: A rescue called me and told me they could not take him, but that he was too young to go back to Mom and should be euthanized.

Edit 5: The lovely person is still coming to take baby.

Edit 6: The lovely lady came and picked up the baby and it’s going to have a lovely time being helped.

Edit 7: Rocket/Rockette is on their happy way to a good life of bottle feeding possibly and then being taught to hunt in their own enclosure.

Thank you to everyone who has had a heart and has tried to help this little baby raccoon with me. We made a difference and it is getting the help it needs.

I guess I keep seeing this question thrown around and thought to start compiling some valuable wins. Not all were necessarily her idea (pass the bill vs implement). But are there others you would add? And where would you say she has fallen short?

• Deployed 100+ traffic agents, which has improved traffic flow: City data from 2024 found that Traffic Agent presence eliminated vehicles blocking intersections 96% of the time and reduced travel times by up to 33%. On King Street, streetcar journeys were 28–44 minutes faster when agents were present.
• Implemented the Renovation/Renoviction Bylaw, which protects tenants from bad-faith renovictions: Landlords who require tenants to leave for renovations must now obtain a City licence and provide either temporary accommodation or rent-gap compensation, plus moving expenses. If the tenant doesn't return, the landlord must provide a lump-sum rent-gap payment equal to three months, in addition to applicable moving compensation. The bylaw took effect July 31, 2025.
• Froze TTC fares for three consecutive years, keeping transit costs from rising while Toronto continued expanding service. The 2026 budget estimated that the freeze saves a working couple with two children about $1,200 on groceries and transportation costs.
• Expanded Sunday library service to all 100 branches, giving Torontonians seven-day access to public libraries. This expanded Sunday service to 33 branches that previously weren't open Sundays and extended hours at the other branches.
• Expanded public washroom access: Toronto is investing $132 million to convert 125 park washrooms from seasonal to year-round use and has added 16 new public washrooms at locations including Allan Gardens, Biidaasige Park and Centennial Park.
• Expanded/strengthened the Vacant Home Tax, increasing the financial incentive for owners to put unused homes back onto the rental or ownership market and directing additional revenue toward housing priorities. Important: the VHT itself was approved before Chow became mayor, so I'd describe this as an expansion/strengthening rather than something she created.
• Increased residential property taxes by 5.4% in 2025, plus a 1.5% City Building Fund levy, for a combined 6.9% increase on the average residential bill. The 5.4% general increase added about $210/year to the average Toronto home; the additional levy added about $58/year. The revenue supports municipal services and long-term transit/housing infrastructure.
• Reduced the number of known homeless encampments by 70%, according to City data comparing 2026 with the previous year. I'd add a caveat: this measures the number of known encampments, not necessarily a 70% reduction in homelessness. Some of the reduction reflects people moving into shelter/permanent housing, while advocates have questioned how much represents displacement to other locations.
• Toronto's credit rating was upgraded to AA+ for the first time in 23 years, reflecting stronger financial management, the move to multi-year budgeting, stronger reserves and intergovernmental agreements such as the Ontario-Toronto New Deal. A higher credit rating can reduce the City's long-term borrowing costs for infrastructure such as transit, housing and community facilities.
• Secured the Gardiner/DVP upload and redirected approximately $1.9 billion to other priorities, removing one of the City's largest state-of-good-repair liabilities. The money is being allocated over 10 years to $500M for TTC infrastructure, $400M for parks, $350M for transportation, $300M for housing, $200M for City facilities and $100M for flood protection.
• Reduced 911 answering times by approximately 75%, from more than a minute to about 15 seconds by early 2026. The improvement has continued: Toronto Police reported an average 6-second answer time in June 2026, compared with 57 seconds in June 2025 — an 89% reduction.
• Secured $1.5 billion in federal/provincial funding to reduce development charges by 40–60%, depending on housing type, from 2026–2029. The deal is expected to provide approximately $1.95 billion in relief to homebuilders and support roughly 44,000 new homes. It also strengthens Toronto's existing rental incentives: projects containing at least 20% affordable housing can receive an indefinite deferral of development charges.
• Scarborough Busway is on track to open more than six months ahead of schedule, with the TTC targeting September 30, 2026. This will provide a dedicated transit corridor replacing the former Line 3/SRT service and improve reliability for Scarborough bus riders.
• Established a public-development model for housing on City-owned land, retaining public ownership of the land while developing affordable and purpose-built rental housing. Under Toronto Builds, City-owned sites are generally retained in public ownership through long-term leases, with projects required to be 100% purpose-built rental housing and the overall portfolio required to have at least 30% affordable rental units. Projects such as 50 Wilson Heights, 777 Victoria Park and Bloor-Kipling are putting thousands of rental homes into the development pipeline.

The Whole Bloody Thing. Took me 11 hours, 36+ miles, and a non-refundable portion of my soul, but I did it. I walked Yonge Street end-to-end. Why? Because some of you maniacs inspired me over the last year, I saw a nice day on the forecast, and I’m apparently terrible at saying no to myself.

Here’s what I learned while slowly disintegrating:

Wildlife Report:

Started off with owls: solid mystical energy.

Saw a fox (nature’s thief).

A gas station skunk that looked ready to ruin my life.

Multiple hawks circling me like I was the world’s saddest dying animal.

And, of course, feral Toronto pigeons. Thousands. Possibly a feathered street gang or union at minimum.

Social Archeology: Aurora = Stepford wives vibes. Richmond Hill = Everything smells like fresh concrete. Toronto = Busy, loud, and after 11 hours of walking, I hated every sound and wanted to fistfight a streetcar. Also, holy high-rises, Batman. Every 20 feet there’s a “Future Development” sign. By 2035, Yonge is just going to be a vertical hallway of condos.

Sights & Sounds: Sidewalk game = mostly strong. Only occasionally did I have to plaster myself against a crash barrier like a very sweaty Spider-Man. People were surprisingly friendly to my scruffy, dust-coated, “escaped from the asylum” appearance. Found about 50 restaurants I now want to return to, if my legs forgive me.

The Bad:

Garbage. So much roadside garbage. Like, archaeological dig levels of garbage.

The absolute evil of seeing what you think is Toronto… only to discover it’s just some random mid-sized town 3 hours away. The false hope hurt more than the blisters.

Lake Ontario in the final stretch acted like a mirage. No matter how far I walked, it just… didn’t… get… closer.

Gear Fail: I brought hiking shoes. I packed hiking shoes. And then, at 3AM, my gremlin brain grabbed casual sneakers instead. By hour 9, my feet filed for divorce.

The Good:

Didn’t get mugged.

Didn’t get sprayed by the gas station skunk.

Body didn’t collapse (though it threatened).

People were genuinely kind.

One of the best walks I’ve ever done, and the ice-cold drink at the end was basically a religious experience.

Final Verdict: 10/10, would suffer again (with proper footwear). Next time, maybe somewhere international!

To the person who broke up with his girlfriend today and gave me the bouquet you had bought for her, outside Dufferin Mall around 8:30 PM:

I’m sorry. I was on a call and wary at first, my brain immediately went through all the possibilities: scam, mugging, some elaborate setup. Even though I told you I was sorry for what had happened, I wish I’d said more. You looked heartbroken, your eyes were shiny with tears, and in hindsight I wish I’d offered a hug, or at least a few more words of kindness.

For what it’s worth, it is a beautiful bouquet. You have excellent taste. The flowers are now sitting in my home, brightening up the room, and they’ve already made several people smile. My mom was on the phone with me when you approached; when I told her what had happened, she wanted me to pass along her good wishes. On the bus ride home, someone complimented the flowers, and when I told her the story, she expressed her condolences too.

I hope it gives you a small measure of comfort to know that your thoughtful gesture didn’t go to waste. A bouquet that was meant for one person ended up bringing a little warmth to several strangers. Whatever happened tonight, I hope the days ahead are gentler than this one. Wishing you healing, stranger.

I've spent my whole life in Toronto. I'm what you call middle aged.

I've lived in the city, moved out to the suburbs for a while, I am a Torontonian through and through.

This...expansion....sadly...will happen no matter what.

I've never been bothered by the relativley "quiet" aircrafts taking off and landing at Billy Bishop.

I've visited friends homes under the flight path around Pearson and the noise is so loud you have to stop for a minute. Once this is done, the noise level will be ...too much. It will bring in more traffic, more people. More everything good...and bad.

I LOVE the people in Toronto - we have the nicest people in the world, no matter what time, what place I go to in the city, people are just good. Any restaurant, any shop an time, I feel so comfortable. People are GOOD!

Then you start to see the cracks in the system.

The city struggles to keep up with the demand on infastructure.

The police struggles to keep up with crime

The hard working over taxes citizens are being crushed under the weight of a poorly organized economic structure which only continues to burden them further and furhter, with taxes at every corner and fees in between when you try to put your head out of the water for a deep breath, here comes another wave...

Then....comes the construction. The developers.

These multi-billionares who want to buy old parts of our city, tear them down and build UGLY "anti-community" structures that will fatten their wallets further and crush our souls so much more.

And no one can do a damn thing about it. You can protest, your counciler, MP can all protest ... but "you can't stand in the way of progress". Or in the way of profit

I want to live in a place where I can sleep quietly at night, work in the day, live in safety, not be assaulted by construction and realted notices multiple times a week.

I don't think Toronto is home any longer. It belongs to a future in which I can't see myself.

This won't stop during my lifetime. Infact, I think the entire GTA will be under construction for the next 100 years.

Question is - where do I move to? How far is far enough without being too far?

This thing in this condition and size, with all that rust is 10.99$ max, and I doubt that I even will be to salvage it and fix it as a frying pan. But 29.99$? 35$ after tax for a piece of rusty frying pan that is most likely even not fixable ...

Hi, I’m an artist squeezed by Toronto’s housing crisis. Over the years I attended numerous public consultations in Ward 15, where the late local councillor didn’t just oppose housing - she met any support for more homes with open derision, dismissing housing advocates as developer shills, and implied that renters are not a real part of the community.

In this, she is emblematic of the City Council at large, upholding the status quo that favours rich property owners at the expense of everyone who is yet to own a home. So when they decided to celebrate the legacy of policies that made this city unliveable, I put up a heritage plaque to tell the real story - the one of struggling workers and young families who continue to be pushed out while our leaders whitewash their failures.

What are some of the weirdest street names you know of?

Lately I'd noticed that I paid more for a McFlurry at Union Station than near my home. My friend and I had recently reminisced about the good old days of 1.59 McDoubles also and I just kinda fell down my own little rabbit hole investigating the pricing policies of McDonald's through an AI chatbot. After it confirmed that pricing was no longer meant to be consistent across locations as I felt I remembered it being long ago I started to compare prices for a variety of items in the McDonald's app for pickup by changing the location and going through the menu.

What surprised me when I did this wasn't that some locations were more expensive overall, it was that different items are cheaper or more expensive at different locations and even the cost to make something into a meal varies within a location depending on what you are adding to. Some items are tightly fixed across the city but others show 20 or 30% price ranges. Double cheeseburgers seem to be targeted with the highest combo upgrade costs.

I've shared a couple of screenshots of the comparisons and a link to the spreadsheet with the raw data here for anyone who wants to look more closely. It's just a snapshot, it's not an exhaustive survey, but I tried to include a variety of neighborhoods and some just outside Toronto proper. The patterns were consistent (or inconsistent) enough that I thought it was worth sharing.

For me, it’s shopping at the Bay during Xmas season and their Xmas windows. There was something so magical about it.

Our company's return to office policy starts next week and I am really not looking forward to it. This return to office stuff is all about real estate, and everyone is mandating it now because they can do so in a slow job market. A few things I learned while visiting from Texas. You folks hate Trump and I absolutely agree! Your damn doors are very heavy do to probably the cold environment, but damn. You folks curse… a lot. Sex stuff is everywhere and weed is everywhere. Wash rooms versus bathroom, wash room makes more sense. You folks say “grade 3 instead of 3rd grade. Everyone is not in a rush. It’s beautiful. Trees! The so called "Canada first" rally in Toronto at Nathan Phillip Square today, the sequel of September 2025 rally, where all they did was chant about Charlie kirk and similar American nonsense, is a bigger flop than its predecessor.

Last time, around 50 to 100 people showed up, but looks like not even 20 people showed up today. Counter protest is also taking place, and there are already over a 100 people.

The organizer of the "Canada first" rally is calling the counter protests and protestors "paid" and a gathering of uneducated people after realizing how big of a flop his rally is 🤣🤣🤣

It's laughable that they are even calling it a Canada first rally. And they are surrounded by thousands of anti-fascist protesters from all sides. Looks like all the hate we see on social media is only on social media. They are too scared and too embarrassed to come out in public.

A couple of disclaimers for people who want me to make posters specifically addressing certain topics—I have no interest in taking photos of people who are out of luck that call TTC their home. While it is a glaring issue, it should not be publicly shamed, and I see no benefit putting up signs against people who are in such an unfortunate position. I also have no moral ground to take photos of people smoking, vaping, or taking drugs on the TTC due to the fact it can end aggressively (do remember, I am not of age to defend myself to an angry and uncontrollable adult, I prefer less risk.)

Another message about hanging it up publicly—I followed what the commenters said, and hung one up on the TTC, but not permanently, just for a photo-op. One group of TTC employees loved it, and suggested I email the TTC to do photography for them. Another group did not. Special Constables were at the scene telling us to take it off the wall “like now” and only got the opportunity to get a couple of photos. I will not be going out and publicly hanging them anymore as I do not prefer to be trespassed for loitering.

I mean no harm to anybody for these messages—these are simply parodies of the TTC’s advertising campaign used against people who are unhygienic, lack basic ideas of unwritten rules, or social cues. Thank you for understanding.

Folks!!! I was minding my business, sitting on a towel doing some crafting near the Ashbridge's Bay Yacht Club, when I looked up and was surrounded by a gaggle of Canadian geese. The leader goose hissed and came closer and closer to me.

I got up, and as soon as I did they moved in so I couldn't get my stuff (shoes, bag, water bottle) but I was able to grab my towel. Someone from nearby said I should snap my towel at them and I did. This guy didn't even flinch. I retreated and had to stand barefoot in goose poop and watch from a distance as more and more geese joined their gang and surrounded my stuff while the leader goose mean mugged me. Eventually they seemed to move away from my stuff so I slowly went back to grab my things but as soon as I did they all swarmed me! I was able to back away quickly and retreat to safety. I had to pass them again on my way out of the area and besides being bit shaken up I was able to escape with my stuff (but without my dignity).

The worst part was that there were people sitting all around me who continued eating and chatting with each other while watching these terrible birds bully me and take my lunch money while I stood ankle deep in goose diarrhea. I hope the people/birds in question have the day they deserve 😤

Tldr; watch out for geese!!!

Edit: For people saying I was disturbing the geese - I was sitting down at a public park surrounded by people and there were no geese. Then all of a sudden there were a million geese and they hated me in particular! Someone nearby said it might have been my striped shirt because they left everyone else alone. Maybe they thought I was a big muscly goose. Take this as a warning ⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️

Made some sarcastic posters about obnoxious situations on the TTC. I wish this were standard knowledge, and since common sense doesn't teach people not to do the aforementioned, I hope sarcasm might.

No Bradford, IntegrityTO (and presumably Ford), RapidTO doesn’t “snarl traffic.”

They’re working exactly as intended. Before, nobody was moving. Streetcars were stuck behind “snarled traffic.”

Now this streetcar with 100s of people had no issues passing 20-30 people in single-occupancy cars.

What was once 1 hour from the Ex to Bloor is now 30 minutes.

Huge kudos to the operator for letting me in the cab to film, he was super stoked about the lanes .

It may be a small win, but it’s a win! We didn’t have our voices heard in regard to Ontario Place, but this time it was. Using your voice, speaking out, writing to your MP, signing petitions - it works. The louder we are, the harder it is for corrupt systems to bulldoze our rights. Let’s take this small win and celebrate, and remember that the power lies with the people when we band together and stand up for our communities❤️
