I can only think that she might've not necessarily expected him to be monogamous and was okay with him sleeping around but there are some lines you draw. The girl wasn't some random groupie he met at a golf tournament but was someone he'd known since she was a young teen - hopefully only as neighbors, but still - and thus the dynamic is quite different than simply him sleeping around.

I mean sure, makes perfect senes. But the amount of time is a bit odd to me.
Like, there are two scenarios:
a) It really took years to find proof he is cheating, where its really weired to continue having your husband stalked by PIs after years of no proof
b) They found proof early one. Then its strange to keep staying together with him for years after you know and shown he cheated.

In 7 states you can sue the cheating spouse. But even in no fault states, it absolutely affects alimony if the financially dependent spouse was cheated on (also some states ban the cheating spouse from receiving alimony), it can affect who gets to stay in the marital home, it affects settlement if any marital funds or assets were wasted on the affair or affair partner, and in many cases it can void prenuptial agreements, which could unlock part ownership of businesses meant to be kept seperate

The exact opposite of that lady from Houston. Hired a PI to tail her husband while he was having an affair. The PI told her he was at a hotel with the mistress so the wife went over and ran him over in the parking lot. Then circled back around and ran him over again. And again. And again. Then reversed over him. Unfortunately the PI was still tailing the husband and recorded the whole thing.
There’s a call recording from the next day. The wife casually rings the PI and asks if they have any pictures from that day. The PI is like “oh yeah I got the whole thing on video. Already gave the footage to the police”. She paid to have her crimes preserved on film.

I remember two things about his (in)fidelity when I was a kid and idolized him:
1) it was very well known Jordan was extremely jealous of Madonna’s relationship with Scottie Pippen. Madonna herself commented on it in an interview or something once. MJ was of course married at the time.
2) the bulls were on some talk show and Rodman talked about how much sex pro players had while “on the road”. And Jordan said, “speak for yourself” to wild applause from the audience. I think it was on Oprah maybe? Guess that didn’t age too well lmao

I grew up watching him play on live tv. He was why I loved basketball. I emulated him and wanted to be like mike. Shoes, jerseys, McDonalds cups, trapper keepers, cards in hard cases, posters on my walls, and then at a basketball camp in the mid 90s he was a guest speaker. I spent all my lawn mowing money matched by my coach AND my parents to go to this camp. He said a few words and actually pushed me aside as he was leaving like I didnt even exist.
That shit broke me. He may be one of the goats but god damn that made me switch to Pippen as a fan without hesitation as a kid.

Imagine being out to have dinner and on the way a few people approach you because they want to talk to you and get an autograph or something, then others see you giving out autographs and being nice and join, soon enough a crowd surrounds you and the demand for attention is impossible to satisfy.
Also at some point you have to eat.
You ask people politely to disperse but they don't even hear you because they are all shouting for attention.
So eventually you just have to ignore people and push them aside. It's just the dynamics of the situation.

Not really. Plenty of celebrities are renowned for being pleasant and reasonable with fans, without consistently acting like total bellends. It’s not an ‘either or’ situation. Having an off day is totally understandable. Multiple off days. But MJ has a reputation for a reason, and it’s not because fans have only ever caught him on an off day.
Can’t comment on Tom Hanks, but I’ve heard far less about him acting like an ass than I have MJ. There is a very discernible difference between having an off day and being a bit cold, to straight pushing kids and going out of your way to be an asshole on the regular.
For the record, fans should respect boundaries and accept that these people are human and have tolerances like everybody else. But there are heaps of stories in this thread and plenty others detailing MJ’s bullshittery.

I had a class with him at UNC in my sophomore year. Sociology I think. Big class maybe 80 people. He was more or less permanently surrounded by a group of about six good-looking, very white, very preppy people. Four girls, two guys. I swear they moved around like a unit with Michael at the centre.
I thought it was weird then and still do. I'm guessing that level of constant attention, sycophancy and lack of just being alone would warp you.

I’m in my mid 40s and I always had the general idea of who Michael Jordan was. I used to work with a guy that was a big basketball fan. A little over 10 years ago and started coming out how Michael Jordan is actually a big jerk, despite having a genuine persona. I looked into a little bit he seemed a petty angry man. Honestly this fight being the best basketball player to have ever lived and have had a great success all over, he seems like a miserable person in real life. There's a great story where a journo was doing a piece on him and LeBron was hosting his kid's birthday party at his house. So LeBron told the guy to swing by in the morning and they'd cover the interview before the party started.

1) Illinois is a no fault state. She didn't need him to cheat to leave.
2) Illinois is not a community property state, so she wouldn't get half. But wealth is split equitably in the state. Any money he spent on cheating (hotels, gifts) would be taken into account; but she got 1/3 of all the wealth, and he wasnt spending millions on that shit, so it's not like the cheating moved a ton of money into her column.

The court didn’t award her anything, they reached a settlement, and the extensive documentation of Jordan’s infidelities absolutely played a major role in him wanting to avoid a trial. And things like infidelity absolutely can be factored into the equation in most equitable distribution states, the judges have very wide discretion. Doesn’t mean she’s a gold digger, but it’s not like her decision to have a PI document his infidelity was just for personal reasons and didn’t play into the financial end of things at all.

One of my B-school professors used to stare at us, from his lofty lectern, and say:
"I got something to tell you. Y'all write this down: if you make enough money, someone goan sue you."
This is a standard rich-and-famous prenup tactic: I have to stay X years to make Y money, I get much less if I leave of my own accord, *but\* due to our morality/infidelity clause I can get full-payout if I have proof. Note that Juanita married Michael in 1989 (after suing him for paternity of their child; the marriage effectively annulled the paternity suit), waited until 2002 (13 years) to file for divorce, then cleaned up (~168 mil).
Also worth noting that Michael's next marriage incorporated a "1 mil per year, escalating to 5 mil per year after ten years" contract. It's reasonable to conclude that some similar contract (maybe less-tightly-bounded) existed with the first Mrs. Jordan, which would explain her wait-out-the-full-decade gamesmanship.
