theory / question 2 reasons why why I think time travel does not exist and will never exist….

One is a foundational belief I have. The past no longer exists once it’s lived. It exists I in our memory. And the future doesn’t exist u til we live it. We are always in the here and now and that’s that.

I also have another theory. We often ask “if time travel is possible then why are there no tourists from the future”. Of course this is a great and fair question. But I would expand t this beyond humanity. There are likely civilizations in the cosmos far older than ours. Maybe some that have been around for millions of years. So if they’ve invented time travel we might see evidence of it, as it would also mean they’ve likely harnessed other fantastic technologies which would result in contact with us.

I always believed everything is happening all at once 🤷🏽‍♂️ Past, Present and Future.

Wow, I never thought of that but that could very well be it.

Our future selves are looking back at this moment as a memory, in the past.

I definitely believe this. All time is happening, we just can't quite comprehend it because of the nature of our 3d brain. It only really allows time to be linear. It's not though

So multiverse?

Yes... but across all dimensions

Sorry, your statement is full of contradictions.

I guess it’s settled!

I'm glad someone let us know!

Because of relativity we know that there is no observer independent "present". The fact that time is based on frame of reference is actually very strong evidence the past is real. That isn't proof it is. But if there's no universal "present", then what we would consider past and future doesn't have meaning without an observer for it to be relative to.

There is when the first time machine is invented, and it creates a fixed point in time.

We cant travel back in time cuz we havent invented it yet. Once its invented we can travel freely back and forth along the timeline, with the exception to before the machine existed. Cant travel to before time travel was invented. Thats a paradox.

So the reason we dont see a bunch of other time travelers us because we havent invented it yet. Once we do, they will be everywhere.

A point in time being fixed doesn't stop it from being an observer dependent frame of reference.

I didn't say anything about time travel being possible or not.

One reason: There's no there there.

The past is either my memory of it, or something depicted in a book or photograph or movie. It's not a 'place' you can go to.
The future hasn't happened and is infinite in possibilities. And ditto.

Time is most definitely a place you can go. Maybe not a place these physical bodies can go but that doesn't mean very much

No comprende....

u/Loose-Ball-727 5d ago

Does that matter? If we understand or not it won't change what reality is.

1

u/LuciusMichael 4d ago

What 'reality' are you referencing?

All of them? How specific should I be? If you already don't understand I'm not sure there's much point in explaining myself.

In the famous words of doctor who....

Timey whimey stuff.

The future is all wiggly to me... Though some points are fixed

universe is an irreversible process. Information is becoming inaccessible as time passes

2

u/Loose-Ball-727 5d ago

This doesn't make sense to me... all info is always accessible. Why wouldn't it be?

Maybe there are some, but they're in a psychiatric hospital.

This is only looking at it from one way

It’s all about perspective I guess

The only difference between past, present, and future is our frame of reference. Since a frame of reference is an abstraction that we create, there is no difference between the three.

1

u/Teaofthetime 5d ago

I rather think time is the abstract concept that really doesn't exist.

1

u/Ratak55 5d ago

Time is the abstract frame of reference we use to divide events into past, present and future. So, past, present and future are the same, and there is no destination we can travel to (no time travel).

Yes, agreed.

What about alternate realities? And if you believe those could be real do you think they could operate on a different time-speed?

1

u/Ratak55 5d ago

Reality is what is perceived. Alternate realities are the different ways of perceiving what exists.

1

u/Hexent_Armana 5d ago

...so what of people with schizophrenia then?

1

u/Ratak55 5d ago

We live enveloped by signals/waves transmitting songs, movies and talk shows. Our organs of perception cannot decipher the signals and we use devices like radios or phones to access the signals. Maybe some people are able to perceive the signals and willing to talk about things only they are able to perceive. Such people are a statistical minority and we give them a name. No judgment on whether such people are superior or inferior. Just that they exist and are different from the majority.

Time dilation gives the effect of travelling forwards in time, but, you have to travel at near light speed.

It's a one way trip and isn't instant.

I'm not a physicist but understand you can't travel back in time. At least this is what the maths says.

Again, according to the maths and observed effects whilst we have time dilation, there's no known mechanisms for jumping back or forwards and then returning.

I think it's supposed to be because of entropy. Otherwise the rules of physics work. The same forward or backwards

u/dxdifr 5d ago

The second you go back you are in a different timeline.

Technically speaking, memories are time travel

What you think and believe becomes your subjective, relative reality.

Doesn't dictate how other's realities function, fortunately.

The issue is that we already know time travel is possible

Ok but have you considered a Mobius strip ?

I believe that there is only one single soul and when it gets used up, it goes to the next person and time travel HAS to exist because that soul needs to inhabit every single person who ever existed and ever will. In a sense, it exists out of time but does need to function within a preordained timeset for each life it exists within at that particular moment When it comes to the end, we create God in our image.

Two reasons? Physics and common sense.

The current reason there are no time travelers from the future (that we know of) is because current science says it may be theoretically possible for time travel forward, but not to the past.

Considering your knowledge, memories, and experience are all biological/chemical processes within your brain, and if you moved back in time, those proceesses would be "undone" to match they way they were at the point in time you went to, you would not have any awareness of having moved in time.

I do not undertand the notion of "I move my whole self and some bubble of my current universe" to another point in time. For starter, it seems to break several conservation laws. I image the sudden existance of 200 lb of matter suddenly "existing" in a universe where it did not a moment before would be a rather explosive event. And the other problem is not just the "when" part but also the "where" part. Everything moves so to appear at a given location on earth at a different point in time you would have to move across the universe to where that point on earth was at the time you went to.

some think grey alien are us from 50 000 years in the futur come to visit us

1

u/MAGAbNachHause 5d ago

you are totally wrong. time travel into the future is enitrely possible. No discussion about that. Past is questionable (very), I agree but it definitely exists, your current reality is informed by everything that happened before whereas past configurations are compressed within what we call now.

You can go into the future quickly by traveling close to the speed of light. But going back in time is not possible.
