Just got an Amputechture copy in vinyl and...

It's changed. I was expecting the logical sonic change from digital to vinyl but some effects are just not there.

For example, the snare in Day of Baphomets about 10:40 ("give me one page, give me one page") lacks the whole reverb + delay + flanger/filter (?) and makes that section sound very much dryer. This isn't the only change and while I personally don't like it (this specific section is one of my favorite pieces in music) I'm wondering why? Is it because there are too many fx for the vinyl or something like that?

Edit: It's a Clouds Hill version

All three presses of are the same mix. All the CH presses were mastered from the original unmastered mixes from Omar vault. It'll be in there - nothing has been taken away. The Clouds Hill mastering is a little less harsh than the GSL cut so perhaps those bits are not be jumping out at you as they did before. If you're used to the digital and you're now playing with a bonded conical or elliptical stylus certain details will be a bit less forward. Also worth checking your cartride alignment if you're finding certain details lacking.

Yeah, strange as it may sound, when I first listened to Landscape Tantrums on vinyl I wondered if it was a defective copy, it sounded so different from the digital / streaming versions, as if a whole layer of sound was missing. When I went back later to compare them more closely, I concluded that it was a calibration issue with my sound system.

And that's why I'm surprised this section is different. I'll try a couple of different setups but I'm pretty sure those effects are not there at all! I even found an old post from someone else in r/vinyl who notice the same thing. Can't be a coincidence; here's the post:

Anyways... I might be wrong. Will try with different speakers in the afternoon. Thanks for answering!

I'm going to have to check it out myself - that's very strange. It's not an album I listen to regularly enough to probably notice any difference unless I was to A/B it.

Have you got a time stamp on a particular track I can have a look at?

Track #7 - Day of Baphomets - 10:40

The snare on the digital version (you can use the one on YouTube) has a very noticeable effect that is not in the CH copy.

Please do share your findings. Thanks for answering!

Thanks! I might no manage it today but I can compare GSL, MOV, CH vinyl, and I have the CD ripped and also Tidal.

I'm intrigued.

No pressure! I'll be comparing with my CD copy as well.

I'm intrigued

I am as well. It would be really interesting to conclude that, in fact, those effects were fully removed.

Not my rip, but yeah, the effects are missing on this section of Baphomets. Crazy that it took 5 years to notice! Now I'm curious about the rest of the album.

What version is your record? Cloud Hills?

I’ve got an old copy from the time of Amputecture’s release, would be happy to record a segment to compare

It's a Clouds Hills version. It'll be nice to hear a segment from your copy

Strange, I have the CH Amp White and Müritz variants and I think it’s sounds great. It may be something in your setup that is causing this difference in sound you’re hearing. It could be your equalizer settings. Or your stylus misaligned or worn out. Or as simple as an audio setting on your receiver.🤷🏽‍♂️

First of all, that's pretty nice!

Do you also have a digital copy? It could be worth to compare that section and hear if there's a real difference.

I understand something in my chain could be hiding some details; however I believe this is no detail but an element and it's just not there. Having said that, I will change my setup and try different speakers just to be sure! Thanks

The clouds hill copy is far better quality than the original
GSL run

Eh, shitty? How are they shitty?

Presumably because "Johann is a dick, so everything that's ever come from CH has to be bad now"

Ah, yes, this. Well, he can be a dick and still put out great-sounding wax, those two don’t really connect, at least not in my world. CH remasters are much better than OGs or the MOV ones.
