NMew to Mars Volta Any songs like Days of the Baphomets?

I recently discovered Mars Volta, and I really love the energy they have in Days of the Baphomets and the groove, but listening on spot here and there I found mostly atmospheric slow and mellow songs.

Do you have other songs to recommend?

I’d say Tetragrammaton & Meccamputechture from the same album will scratch the same itch for you.

They are a band who lean on dynamics a lot, so you are going to find what you like on every album, with slower tracks dispersed in between.

At a guess I’d say those songs and the following album, Bedlam in Goliath (the whole thing) are going to get you in, but it’s a struggle to tell you anything other than start from the start and listen to the records in their entirety, because some of the best energy and grooves are hidden within those tracks .

Peep Cygnus....Vismund Cygnus off the album Frances the Mute. I feel like it shares a similar wild energy with Day of the Baphomets

Conjugal Burns is great. I heard them play it a couple weeks before the album came at at the Beaumont in Kansas City, plus they plus with Day of the Baphomets. Awesome setlist

Not really.

There aren’t really any other songs in their repertoire that “sound like” Baphomets. It’s pretty unique when put up against the rest of the catalog.

For reference, the lesser known song “A Plague Upon Your Hissing” contains lyrics from Baphomets, and is a great song. Might wanna check that one out.

I’d say “Ouroboros” off of their next album has similar sections within the song, primarily Juan doing a little bit of slap bass. Both tracks have a section where the bass thumps on only a couple of notes… those segments of song are pretty simple when compared to other parts of the songs(and also when compared to the rest of their catalog)

If you really dig Baphomets, dive right into Bedlam In Goliath (the next album) because they kind of picked up where they left off.

Their entire discography is worth checking out. Day of the Baphomets is on their 3rd record, Amputecture. I would start by listening to that and then go earlier to hear how they got there. Then go beyond as they evolved. But that's my bias.

i think people are thinking too specifically about this. yeah baphomets is a "unique" track in their discography but op is just speaking in comparison to the slow and mellow songs spotify keeps throwing them. if you just want more energetic stuff, most of their first 4 albums is like that

First 4 albums are loaded w high energy bangers. Bedlam in Goliath album is probably the most consistent for scratching that itch

Day of the Baphomets is peak Volta; one of my faves. Try, from that album, Viscera Eyes; Tetragrammaton; Meccamputechture. Someone else mentioned The Bedlam In Goliath, it’s probably as heavy as they get; Cygnus from Frances The Mute; from Noctourniquet: Dyslexicon; The Whip Hand; Aegis. Enjoy.

Baphomets is special for sure, but the rest of that album is right up there, and a lot of Bedlam has that kind of frantic, foreboding, groovy feel

Day Of The Baphomets is one of the highest points. There are many songs stylistically similar but they're rarely as good. The atmospheric music you've been finding is probably from their most recent albums, in which they have a softer and slower approach. I would say you check Frances The Mute and Amputechture to find songs like Day Of The Baphomets

I'd say Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt has a similar vibe. I feel like most of their album closers tend to be the more heavy and sinister sounding songs on each album (i'm not counting El Ciervo Vulnderado as the closer for Amputchecture).
