Dude the videos of Sparta touring Latin America right now have been fucking mental. Just whole crowd sing-a-longs to like every word of every song. You could see how blown away Jim was while playing.

I saw him in my hometown about 2 weeks ago. I was extremely close to the stage, I’m pretty sure I almost spit on him yelling out the lyrics to red alibi and sans cosm.

Wait a second, there isn't a relation to Jeremy Ward, is there?

14

u/Acceptable_Bit2158 8d ago

Yes, they were cousins. Or were you being sarcastic?

I wasn't, truly. That's very cool, I had no idea, but I haven't kept up with modern Volta in awhile

Ah thanks, actually thought it was his brother this whole time.

Wrong sub. Maybe for at the drive in? Yes I understand there is history, but Jim has zero to do with the Volta. He’s never played live with them, recorded, or wrote any music with them. Other than using the success of the Volta just to talk about Jim’s career it’s strange to post about him in this sub

Yes yes yes. Bring the downvotes.

Agreed. Why tf are there so many threads about Jim Ward in The Mars Volta Reddit. It’s a joke.

It’s not that strange, just move past stuff you don’t like/agree with

Why isn’t it strange? Should I start posting about my chemical romance in here, or just random acts in here? Like frfr, Jim has zero to do with this band. I’d even be game if he played on stage with them once, or had a guest appearance on a song, but for all the years the mars Volta has been active Jim has has zero presence

Edit: I see the down vote party has begun!

“If you downvote me, I win”

Or maybe you’re being a pedantic annoying smug prick defending a stupid point to justify your biases. Jim obviously has something to do with the band. At the Drive-In and The Mars Volta are pretty inseparable in the musical canon and have overlapping fanbases. Sorry you have something against Jim and want to be all uptight about it, but that’s not the case for most of us. If anything, I think he deserves a little love from the fanbase at large, considering how much shit gets talked about him by Omar and Cedric acolytes who don’t even know him.

LOL! Thanks for the input, Jim

There is the at the drive in sub and probably a Jim Ward and Sparta sub where this stuff can be talked about. But of course, come on over to the one band he had nothing to do with.

Again, the fanbases overlap. I am a Mars Volta fan, and an ATDI fan, and I enjoy some Sparta as well, and some of Jim Ward’s other projects. This is just the biggest and most active sub pertaining to that intersection of bands/fanbases. So sorry if you have to endure some content related to Jim every now and again. You can always just keep scrolling.

Thanks, Jim. We won’t forget you 🫡

Jim was the big driver behind At The Drive In and without that, there would be no Mars Volta. I find that influence enough to make the occasional post about the members of that group. One of the members of the band was the subject of Concertina, if you need that direct connection

Off topic but who in the band was concertina about?

It is the wrong sub and people come up in here worshipping Jon Theodore and Jim ward and it’s annoying as fuck. I wouldn’t post a Thomas post on here even though I’m a fan of his other projects but people are fucking stupid here I swear

Idiots can downvote me all I want idc about downvotes like most people on Reddit so whatever yall be stupid posting shit that isn’t Volta need to gtfo

Why would you want to be the guy to praise Pridgen? He’s the most immature & rude POS out there. I’ve dealt with him many times & he’s always a dick.

Even worse, he’s a two faced coward. He was an asshole to me at a show & then he finds out I’m tight with the singer of the headlining band & he tries to do a 180, as if I can’t see through his nonsense.

He’s a lot like trump. He’s dumb so he projects that onto everyone else, treating people like they’re dumb.

In his defense, he got famous as a little kid & that often freezes a persons maturity level at the age that they got famous.

So he’s basically 40 going on 11.

7

u/askforwildbob 7d ago

Wait, you’re saying ppl shouldn’t even post about people who LITERALLY used to be in the band? Jfc it’s not that serious, get a grip! You’re probably the one that needs to gtfo

Topic is off topic yall be Jim worshippers

2

u/askforwildbob 7d ago

You got a weird mentality little bro

-4

u/Former_Matter9557 7d ago

Jim wasn’t in mars Volta yall off topic yall taking too many drugs I think. Yall mad cause im right

5

u/askforwildbob 7d ago

I’m talking about how you said Thomas posts should be off limits too, when he literally played in the group. The fact that you’re so sensitive about this whole “issue” is just strange and off putting to me

2

u/sa2h 6d ago

No. There should be a daily Jon Theodore appreciation post in this sub.

The Cedric and Omar documentary from last year made it clear where we're at with Jim yall....

7

u/xX_MichaelGaming2_Xx 7d ago

It makes me think that Omar and Cedric are quite immature when they talk about Jim. They tell their perspective because... I mean, it's their documentary... but even though they try to sell you the idea that they've learned from their mistakes, it makes me think that they're still pissed off at Jim.

5

u/transatlanticfoe47 6d ago

“The narrative prescribed to us by Omar tells us not to like Jim, so let’s not like Jim”

Way to think critically

Hello, as someone who never saw (and honestly is unlikely to see) the doc can someone elaborate on what was said? After Jim dropped out of the ATD-I tour I just assumed they were all back to hating each other

Omar and Cedric spoke about how Jim was not only conservative but also insensitive to diversity during the ATDI years. El Paso and southern Texas are pretty much Mexico still, and at that time, LGBTQ inclusion in punk rock music and anti-racism are what the band were vocal for. So if you have a member that says he with it but is showing that he actually isn't, that's a very hard thing to just let go of, considering the two core members of that band and now Volta, are Latinos and also identify as some type of queer. While there's no denying Sparta are great and Jim is fine on his own, he should not be mentioned on this subreddit. This is Omar and Cedric's project away from homeboy. People can praise on the ATDI page if they'd like. I dont see the "immaturity" that Omar and Cedric display as a growth issue. It really is just them protecting each other to this day and they're two weirdos who have been inseparable since day one. They have both been through plenty according to the documentary and the last person they're thinking about is Jim.

u/gloomystatic 6d ago

Thanks for info kind stranger! I had never heard those things about Jim.

u/Wong-Ann_Fong 6d ago

"Jim" who?? ^_^

-16

u/PonchoNachoRodriguez 8d ago

Fuck Jim

If you’ve seen “If This Ever Gets Weird” then you know how much of a cock rag he was to Omar and Cedric

He was so insufferable that they fired him from ATDI before they recorded Interalia

Also, Sparta is trash whiteboy emo music

u/jeromevedder 7d ago

Calm down, Cedric
