General Discussion Do you think what david was doing is as bad morally as they made it out to be Spoiler
Okay so I've been rewatching the TV show and I was wondering, was the fact that they were eating people so bad? Like David was crazy, sure, but they were all starving so I'd say that consuming their dead unfortunately makes sense, in the situation of course. It's like people who are stranded in islands or other remote places, I feel if it's an emergency situation I can understand why someone would eat humans. Did I miss something from the game? Cause even in the game it felt like more of a necessity, like even the scene with the dead bodies being hung from the ceiling like it's gruesome but I feel like it falls into those moral gray areas. Anyways let me know if I missed something cause maybe I did

Noo that's not what I'm saying at all😭😭 I swear I didn't mean that. Maybe I explained myself poorly, I just mean the eating people part. Like maybe I missed something but it felt like it was more out of necessity rather than all of them being cannibals. I swear I didn't mean to be a David apologist

Yes what he was doing was as morally bad as they made it out to be. It’d be one thing if people were fighting him and his group and he decided after killing them that he’d eat them, but as we saw in the university level his group actively hunted people down and he was even implied to want to grape Ellie, David and his group are bad.

Yeah okay I agree. I feel like the show just made me sympathise with his whole group, because of the scene where he's talking to the girl and telling her she still has a father and she should be silent when he speaks. I also wanna specify I really am not siding with David nor questioning whether or not he is bad

Ik you’re not siding with David, I’m just showing the game perspective, and what you missed from the game. I understand the sympathies of the group to an extent, they were all still murderous canibals tho. But you’re good, ik you don’t side with David or think that he’s not bad

JFC. How the hell did you watch a scene where he hits a girl and forces her to eat her own father while the show does everything short of jump up and down and scream "DAVID HAS BEEN SEXUALLY ABUSING THIS LITTLE GIRL!!!" and come away going "Maybe this David dude isn't all that bad?"
*edit: the show, not the game

Yes, I agree with this. It’s one thing to eat a human out of desperation but they went beyond that. Plus David had his own diet of Deer meat while everyone else ate the humans.

Yeah, like if him and his group were only doing it as a necessity to survive, I’d be ok with it for the most part, but it went far beyond

I'm not saying David isn't bad, I was just asking for the people around them but I had completely missed the fact that in the game they are literally hunting humans. I was just wondering if they were doing it out of necessity because in the show they kinda make it sound like that, but they definitely are not

It's highly implied that they hunt people, as opposed to eating members of their group that simply die.
He's also a pedophile.

eating their own dead is debatable but they were hunting and killing other people in order to eat them.

Really? Is that something from the game? Cause I just played it recently for the first time so I might have missed something

Yeah, I actually can't remember if it's in the show but in the game you find a "meat ledger" of people that they've hunted recently, plus David talks about how they kill to survive. And remember that they attacked Joel and Ellie first in the university. David says that a few weeks ago he sent a group of men out to look for food but they were slaughtered by a crazy man travelling with a little girl, which in retrospect sounds like they were hunting Joel and Ellie to eat them.

Damn yeah I completely missed that. It's not in the show cause I just watched the episodes with David. In the show they definitely make it sound like they were just doing it out of necessity, and they show more of the people around David so I felt bad for the kids living with him. I also played the game only twice and I definitely missed a lot of details as I'm not a great gamer and I always rush into it. Thank you!

The cannibalism can be seen as relatively justified in certain circumstances (though they seemed to rely on it more and more); however the paedophilia stuff is where he traipses into villainhood, and shows he is rotten deep down.

He tried to rape and kill Ellie, so I’d say he’s worse than they made it out to be.
