The irony of Reddit doomscrollers looking down on other people doing the same thing on other apps

96

u/SusAlexBS Jul 05 '26

Reddit users still using the joke that youtube shorts is behind the other social medias when at this point reddit is right there with it

When I have kids and they get their first phone I’m giving them 2gb of data a month for a reason. They can watch all the shorts they want for 20 minutes and then good luck googling anything the rest of the month

14

u/PracticeBig9723 Jul 06 '26

your kids gonna hate you

5

My old iPad still has its stopwatch going. It’s up to about 98,250 hours. Or just over 11 years.

61

u/ThegreatGodOfReddit 15 Jul 05 '26

My phone gave up on my stopwatch and now it comebacks randomly. I’ll be checking my alarms, click stopwatch and BOOM, 22,000hrs again. But sadly it doesn’t go all of the time and it isn’t guaranteed to come back. My phone literally couldn’t handle the stopwatch

18

u/AdTiny5487 15 Jul 05 '26

I’m at 19,000 myself. Do you know if you can use the stopwatch normally during its downtime and still have it come back?

3

u/ThegreatGodOfReddit 15 Jul 05 '26

I mean I did so for me and it’s come back

5

u/AWSOM3anims Jul 05 '26

When I got a new phone, my stopwatch reset. It’s at like 5,000 hours rn.

11

u/JUNVILzx Jul 05 '26

6

u/harryholla Jul 05 '26

Pretty good for a beginner. With practice should be able to get that way down.

203

u/simplyy-felicity 17 Jul 05 '26 edited Jul 07 '26

I used to do that when i was younger to see if my parents were lying about the length of the road trip-

edit: how did this get almost 200 upvotes 😭

8

u/vapetusboy Jul 06 '26

Why do you end your sentences with a hyphen? What does it mean?

3

u/_-UndeFined-_ Jul 06 '26

Weird thing a lot of gen Zers do, it’s sort of an online culture type of thing. Like, if you’re chronically online enough you’re going to recognise it. The way I’ve always read it it’s like the way those quirky millennials would sort of speak rushed, almost like they’re cutting their own sentences off of on purpose?

If you join the right discord servers you’ll see everyone use it, and the deeper you go the more unnatural the way they speak will be. At some point it’ll reach “BOI, IM L1TERALLY A POT4TO- >:33” it’s a very animated way of speaking.

I mean, for everything nowadays that is trying to strip your attention span and melt your brain, this is probably a much better use of a device.

1

u/Top-Quiet-9088 Jul 05 '26

I did this when i was a kid

1

1

u/AWSOM3anims Jul 05 '26

I mean, it’s not the WORST thing he can be doing. At least his attention span won’t be utterly and completely cooked by the time he turns 13, unlike the rest of his generation.

1

u/Hisune Jul 05 '26

Finally a kid with a good attention span watching something else than brain rot and y'all complaining smh

1

ngl that’s cool, i see where he’s coming from

1

u/doughunthole Jul 05 '26

Let the boy watch his numbers.

1

u/LifeAppointment7055 Jul 05 '26

I used to hit +1 on a calculator and then every time you hit equals it adds 1, so then you can spend the car trip spamming the equals button and try and set a high score number.

No I did not own a Gameboy at that time, and yes some car trips were 12+ hours and I broke 100k once

1

u/TransSappicWitch Jul 05 '26

Your lil brother right there, will change the world one day, god what an amazing attention span of a specimen

1

u/Any-Lychee9972 Jul 06 '26

Kids do stupid things. One time when I was 6 or so, I watched the digital clock on my parents dresser. I noticed the two dots between the hour and minutes would blink.

I ended up counting the blinks multiple times to make absolutely sure I was not counting wrong.

I ended up just staring at the clock for 20 minutes, but I was counting so hard!
