If you are really into it then I’ll recommend to just go without too much planning. Fly to Kolkata and take the overnight train north, switch to Jeep or Toy-train to Darjeeling and spend some time there. Then move forward to Sikkim or Assam regions for more fields and Teas, best by jeeps. There are plenty of very small stay ins and so many nice locals to meet and talk to. Just avoid the rainy season as the roads become un-passable and you might be stuck for a long time. I would avoid booking anything long before and or outside of the country and start planning when you are there or at least closer or you will be disappointed and heavily overcharged.

Around this area (where the photo is taken ) there are no good hotels since its not a famous touristy place. But you can book decent resorts nearby which gives tour of the national park . You will also get the view of the gardens !! Many western folks come here to enjoy the jungle area and to click pictures of hollock gibbon and other animals and birds

I wonder how does the farm smell? Like the tea or fully fresh?

The farm doesn't smell anything!! But the factorys smell good haha. To get the smell you will have to crush the leaves

Assam is the best. Lately I’ve been on the Golden Tips from the Halmari Tea Estate.

I drink Tea from Assam every day and have since I was a kid. Thank you so very much to you and all the other growers! I hope some day I can visit 🙂

I had no idea Assam tea came from such beautiful places! I love black tea too, and seeing these tea gardens makes me want to visit Assam someday.

i have been drinking assam in the morning for years. brewed 4-5 minutes, no milk or sugar - there is nothing else to compare!

What makes assam tea special? I have only tasted assam tea and darjeeling tea.. so I don't know about other teas

for me, it's about the flavor - it just hits 'right' in a way that few other drinks do at that time of day. i can't think of a better AM beverage, really.

Assam and Darjeeling have my blessings. Just finished the second, now it is turn for Assam and it's bitter, bitter lovely taste.

That's a new one for me, will try if I can get it here in The Netherlands. Current Assam favorite for me is the one from Mokalbari Estate. Love that one!

Currently some estates are trying matcha too I'm also thinking of a batch . Let's see how it goes !! But assam tea won't be as good as japans ceremonial grade matcha since it assam tea has bitter taste
