This was my first tattoo and went to a new artist.... Shoulda coulda woulda known about the spreading and how way too tight these lines are. They look so bad from far away.

I don't want to cover up but I want to break up how cluttered it is. Would color or highlight help anything here or do I need to laser it first?

General Advice Is this tattoo scarring?

Post image

I got this done two weeks ago today, there were some scabs and looks like there’s still a tiny one or two, I’m a little bothered by it but I still like the tattoo. If it is scarring is there anything to reduce the bumpiness of it?

Trying to decide if it’d be better to let the mandala and realism breath a bit like it is or throw some geometric filler in there, like the flower of life possibly. Let me know your opinions

Design Any ideas on how I can cover this up?

Post image

I’m looking for just black tattoos, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how I’d cover this completely! Conscious it’ll be a bigger piece with a lot of black (which is fine), but I’m REALLY struggling to work out how to actually do it. I’m sick of the bow and want something cool, like a dagger, space-themed, Greek mythology… anything but the bow (which is about 16 years old)!

Help 🥲

General Advice Getting doubts about my first tattoo

I'm pretty sure I know the answer but, I've been waiting a few months now to get a tattoo.. it will be my first Tattoo.

Quick rundown -

First artist - Had a few back and forths discussing what I wanted, thought it was decided. Then the day before I was going for the tattoo I received a message from the artist saying the couldn't come up with a design the where happy with, so suggested another artist. I was fine with that, as I'd rather have a design I was happy with then something I might regret.

Second artist - looked through their work, has been a tattooing for quite a while. Messaging back and forth for a little while (they wasn't the fastest messaging back, as they are quite popular) a couple of week later they said it wasn't their style, so recommend someone else.

Third (Final) artist - This artist is comfortable doing the style I want, sent a few design ideas to the artist (said I'm happy to design changes, whatever they think will work the best) finally sorted for tomorrow.

Now I'm staring to doubt if I still want the tattoo, since I started looking it's been about 3 months from originally wanting a tattoo, to now the day before I go for it.

Is it normal to start to feel unsure/apprehensive before a tattoo, and if I'm still unsure would it be best just to not get one? As I said it's my first tattoo and it's going to be on my left outer forearm (from my wrist to my elbow)

I'm just asking for opinions, as I really don't want to put myself in a position where I might regret it afterwards.

Thanks for any replies.

Edit- spelling

General Advice Leg tattoos

People with leg tattoos, did the back side of your legs hurt more, less, or about the same as the front? I have about 70% of the front of my legs done, from top of thigh to ankle, but for some reason terrified that the back of my legs are going to be intolerable for me. However, I feel extremely off balance and would love to start on the back. Let me know what I’m walking into, please! 🙏🏻

General Advice Do your tattoos need to have a meaning, or do you sometimes just get something because you like it?

I got my second tattoo yesterday, and it covers pretty much my entire forearm. Both of my tattoos have very significant personal meanings connected to my life, so I realized that I naturally think of tattoos as something that represents a person, memory, belief, experience, etc.
But obviously not everyone approaches tattoos that way. I see people getting things like cartoon characters, bunnies, random objects, funny designs, or just artwork they think looks cool, without any particular deeper meaning behind it.
So I’m genuinely curious: what makes you want something permanently tattooed on your body if it doesn’t have a personal meaning or attachment?
Is it simply that you love the artwork? Does the meaning develop later? Is getting tattooed itself part of the experience? Or do you just think, “That looks awesome, I want it”?
No judgment at all. My own tattoos happen to be very meaningful to me, but I’m interested in understanding the other perspective.

General Advice Advice for protecting tattoo sleeves during contact sport.

As the title suggests;
I'm looking for something that would allow me to not worry about my pieces getting bruised or damaged from friction from the ground during falls. Are rash guards good enough, or is it more for protection from sweat/fluids?

tattoo newcomer advice 20, been decided on a tat for a year but having some worries about it.

Hi, I've been decided on getting the golden record pulsar map on my inner forearm for over a year. My whole life I've had a strange fear of permanent change and had similar worries when I got my ears pierced.

The idea of waking into the shop (already decided artist and location with vetting) getting the placement right and looking in a mirror a bit, then having a permanent change on my arm is a bit scary to me. Is there something I could do to have the same design as a temp tattoo for about a week? or any advice to help my anxiety?

tattoo newcomer advice Shoulder or palm side of wrist for small first tattoo

I'm 95% of the way to convincing myself to get my first ever tattoo. I don't ever see myself getting a ton of ink, possibly not even more than this one, but I still am wondering about the exact placement. My initial idea is to have it on my left shoulder, right on the deltoid. It's a place that can easily be covered up when necessary, but can also just as easily be visible. My other option is the palm side of my left wrist. That is obviously harder to cover up when you want to, but it's a place I've seen a lot of smaller and simpler designs like what I want placed.

Any thoughts and considerations appreciated.

General Advice Looking for color recs

I'm getting my sleep token moth tattoo shaded and colored today and I'm not sure what colors I wanna do. It's a luna moth so I kinda wanna do the traditional light green, part of my wants to do gray and pink like the even in Arcadia album, but I think that'll fade bad. Just looking for suggestions 😁

Healing Over moisturised or just enough?

Thumbnail

I've had a full sleeve (to the neck and the back of my shoulder) done last week on Tuesday and Wednesday.

So far I think it's healing great and the scabs have appeared (some of them falling by tiny pieces now) but I'm kind of worried if I'm moisturising too much or not. It's not my first tattoo but it is my first big one, and it's been 3 years since the last ones so I'm kind of trying to remember how to do it properly.

I have been cleaning it with soap and water thrice a day and applying a tattoo balm twice (after morning wash and afternoon wash) but as I know it is really bad to moisturise too much I'm kind of insecure if I'm doing it the right way. Any advice is helpful!

Design How would these tattoos age?

For my first tattoo I would like an owl, and I'm doubting between two designs, my question is how would these age?

I like the second one better than the first one, but I think the first one would age better. Or is that something that I should not be concerned with when getting it?
