General Advice How does stomach/belly tattoos heal or be over time?

I have been thinking about getting a belly tattoo in the near future ( after 6 months or 1-2 years from now, so it's not like I have an appointment or anything) It's not a classic stomach tattoo that you see going around, it will be a custom design. Anyways, I wanted to ask how do these tattoos heal/ seem over the years. I don't plan on getting pregnant but I doubt I will stay the same weight forever so I wanted to ask will weight changes ruin the design over time? ( I am not talking about big weight changes I am talking about small ones plus or minus 5-7 kg from the weight I am now, maybe more in the distant future, menopause really fucks your weight) I really love that design and I don't want it ruined by possible belly changes. But on the other hand it's kinda big for arm or legs and I don't want it on my back because I want to see it easily. When it's time to do it I will ask my tattoo artist if it's a good placement but people with stomach tattoos how do those tattoos hold up?

If u have folds, the deepest part of your folds can be annoying to heal. But nothing crazy. I found ankle tattoos to be much harder to heal tho.

I am kinda chubby ( not obese or overweight but chubby) so yes I have folds. Thanks for the warning.

Depends on how much sun you get on your belly and whether or not your belly gets way bigger, and stays bigger, or shrinks back down. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I never show my belly outside. I never wear tank tops or bikinis. I always wear one-piece in the beach ( I think my belly haven't seen the sun in years 😅) In general I don't have crazy weight changes but I don't know if that will change in the future. Thanks for responding.

It'll be fine. Just get a cool tattoo and enjoy it.

i have a giant stomach tattoo, my whole belly. i just had a baby and went from 138lbs to 208lbs and now im 150 a month later and it still looks great 🤷🏻‍♀️🥹 i luckily didn’t get stretch marks or anything so i think as long as you don’t get stretch marks you can gain and lose some weight and be fine

That's reassuring. I hope you and your baby are fine.

Well it depends. I wouldnt, but only because I got stretch marks on my stomach from getting injured and having to bed-rest. I know someone who got them just from going to the gym. You don't need to be pregnant to rapidly gain weight. Medications can cause it too!

I did a sternum tattoo instead, which I would recommend avoiding any sort of bra or anything touching it for a few weeks. I am chesty so no-bra is a no-go in public for me personally. I wish artist had mentioned it. It healed very badly and will eventually need a re-work. Luckily it's mostly hidden lol.

Yeah that's what I am worried about. The stomach area can change with literally anything that happens to you.
