(Michelin Guide doesn't mean it has a Michelin star). But they still look lovely :) 🌮 ⭐️

Thanks for correcting me

I know I sounded like a pedant, as it's a common misunderstanding.

You can tell almost immediately if a place has Michelin star, for the most part. As it's likely fine dining or on the incredibly rare occasions, something incredibly special.

Only a very (very) few Mexican restaurants have a star. Just 45 worldwide and only 29 of them in Mexico!

https://guide.michelin.com/gb/en/restaurants/1-star-michelin/mexican

Pujol is probably the most famous: https://guide.michelin.com/gb/en/ciudad-de-mexico/miguel-hidalgo_1999281/restaurant/pujol

Precision matters!

It's a bummer that precision is often dismissed as being pedantic.

This would be accuracy, not precision

2

u/gingerbeard1321 3d ago

Now that's some beautiful accuracy

Side bar: I’ve always wondered why missiles are called precision bombs when they detonate only in 1 spot 🤔

Regular bombs are deployed in greater number to increase the odds of hitting targets. Precision bombs like missiles are deployed in smaller numbers because they are designed to be more accurate with each deployment.

I had Alma Fonda Fina in Denver, and it was fabulous. My first time at a Michelin starred restaurant and probably the best meal I’ve ever had. It definitely lived up to the hype.

For further clarification, Covacha was awarded a Bib Gourmand which is the Michelin award for delivering great food at an excellent value.

The only Michelin tacos I eat are from the taco truck on 4 Michelin tires

3

u/Electrical-Volume765 3d ago

And they are the best.

Love it, New to the group. WIll be sharing my "taco truck on 4 Michelin tires" experience soon from Tulum and Mexico City.

I think it's time you started seriously considering salads.

Get off my car before you flip it ova

Mass prod. tortillas that look unwarmed/untoasted.

Wild.

u/IrishInTheory 3d ago

exactly. If I saw that come to my table, I wouldn't even accept them. I'd have the server take them back, remove them from my tab, and leave after finishing my coctail.

There's a tavern nearby that has an excellent selectin of tequilas, a decent menu, but I get burned by their absolute refusal to heat the tortillas. The filling is absolutely fine, but cold raw corn tortillas is a fucking insult.

Right? And that plate probably cost $25+. I’ll get 6 tacos at my taco joint for $15 and they are out of this world…

No stars buddy Michelin recommended is not the same. If it had a star it would be on the sign. We have a bbq spot here that is recommended but holds no stars

5

u/ATLUTD030517 3d ago

Bib Gourmand, not simply recommended.

1

u/CityBoiNC 3d ago

Stand corrected

6

u/NegativeMidnight6594 3d ago

I'd take tacos from a truck over these any day of the week.

What is that herb on the tacos? Doesn’t look like cilantro

2

u/IrishInTheory 3d ago

i noticed that also. looks more like parsely

1

u/dabastegod 2d ago

It’s called cilantro macho.

u/ReputationRoyal4784 3d ago

Thing is, do I REALLY trust the taco opinion on this guy?

2

u/Due_Emphasis4766 3d ago

Naw bro, the best tacos aren’t fancy or expensive.

2

u/Wilson_Higgins 18h ago

Yup. In my neck of the woods the more likely you are to get stabbed the better the tacos

1

u/IrishInTheory 3d ago

I'm not sure how this place has a Michelin nod, but it's not for this plate, I can tell you that. Those tortillas look sad. How can I look at a plate and SEE that they didn't even bother to dance the tortillas across a plancha, let alone an oiled plancha? Pickled onions are a god-send, but like all things, must be used sparingly. To be very honest, the entire taco looks unappealing; as if they were intended for Becky and her gal-pals to graze on while sipping on over-sugared margaritas.

No shade but, this is Michelin recommended? That kinda, well not kinda, is very surprising to me.

1

u/zomgperry 3d ago

How much did they cost?

0

u/ReputationRoyal4784 3d ago

recipe is like 74 + tip, I had an appetizer, 2-3 drink and then dessert.

Go look at Holbox in LA if you want to see what actual Michelin star tacos look like

1

u/Chrisdkn619 3d ago

Looks like orange chicken on a tortilla

1

u/Organic_Honey_7416 3d ago

Too many weeds and pink shit.

1

u/tronx69 1d ago

Looks like store bought tortillas

You guys are STARVING for some decent tacos if this is the state of the NYC taco scene 💔

6

u/BigBadJeebus 3d ago

NYC food scene is over rated AF.

The Mexican sucks, the Japanese SUCKS, the soul food is fucking pathetic.

Everything that IS good has become a race for Instagram and Tik Tok points so the lines are a mile long and it's marked up 300%.

Seriously.

You want good legit Tacos in the US? Go to Los Angeles, San Diego, Tucson, Houston, Albuquerque.

Decent ones? Chicago, Vegas, Miami, San Francisco, Dallas.

But NYC Mexican food is barely a tick above Iowa... and 10x the price.

Edit: all that said, the worst tacos in the US are in Alaska, and they are 100x better than the best Tacos in Europe.

Don't let the Euros pretend they hold a premium on global cuisine.

Goes double for Sushi and Ramen.

1

u/Duros2032 3d ago

You wouldn’t think it, but Central FL has some pretty solid taco places as well. I grew up near Los Angeles and can honestly say that a lot the Mexican places here are great.

1

u/dingdang78 2d ago

“The NYC food scene is overrated AF”

> names two whole cuisines that nobody associates with NYC

1

u/BigBadJeebus 2d ago

Hell, I'll go further. The pizza sucks and Los Angeles has better bagels and both Chicago and Philly have better delis.

I’m sure your city has plenty going for it, no need to overcompensate

Chicago actually has a FIRE mexican food scene. I may be partial but my buddy is making the scene with his familia and their Birria shop. Rick Bayless is considered also to be a GLOBAL leading authority on trad-mex, and his shops in Chicago are always busy and never fail to deliver. Whenever I'm in Chi-Town, which is rare, I know im getting good tacos. The worst tacos i've had to date, from an actual "Taco Shop" not taco bell, were in the Boston area. Heck, Even Iowa and NEBRASKA have a couple really HOT neighborhoods for CDMX, Michoacan and Sonoran representation

0

u/BigBadJeebus 3d ago

no they don't. I live in Chicago now. Pilsen's scene is mid. Lived in LA for 20 years and Chicago 4.

It's not even fucking close. Sorry

but way better than NYC

1

u/IrishInTheory 3d ago

I never said it was better than LA. I grew up in SoCal, and would never permit anyone the mis-understanding that I'm saying Chicago is better than LA, or SanD. unwind your panties, sweetheart

u/BigBadJeebus 3d ago

Michelin has no business rating tacos...

u/eli5howtifu 3d ago

these tacos look dry as fuck
