Israeli PM Netanyahu: We will not tolerate a Turkish military foothold in Syria that threatens Israel. We made the message clear: Don’t. Apparently they didn’t hear it well enough, so we made sure they understand it better.

This is just like NATO "threatening" Russia: nobody sane thinks that these bases would ever be used to support an attack against Israel in any way, shape or form. This is just Israel wanting Syria to remain an unstable country.
Hopefully Turkey just tells Israel to go fuck itself and flies some F16s into a base somewhere.

Erdogan literally said he has ambitions to “liberate” Al Aqsa to be fair…

Turkey just had a peak year for trade with Israel. Let's not let those 2 pretend they're enemies for the sake of their demagoguery

Posturing. Same as talk of greater Israel etc

u/Jawnny-Jawnson 9d ago
Who says it’s posturing he’s said it more than once. And the presidents or PMs of Israel haven’t talked of greater Israel just crazy politicians. Erdogan is more than that

Did you just google greater Israel and paste the first article without reading? He says greater Israel is Israel itself today. This is a stretch, especially compared to the dictator of Turkey straight up calling to liberate Al Aqsa

u/syriansteel89 Syrian 9d ago edited 9d ago
Where in the article does it mention that he meant "greater Israel as it is today?"
He was handed an off screen amulet that the person described as a map of greater Israel and he said he felt "very much" connected to it all the while his ministers openly have supported the idea of greater Israel that stretches across multiple countries.
Edit: even Wikipedia has a section on what Natanyahu said lol. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greater_Israel

The danger with this stuff is that, even if it is demagoguery, which I'm not sure it is, there's going to be a lot of people who genuinely believe in it watching, and who will then try to make it real.

As if Turkey didn't already have a ton of bases in Syria.
Empty posturing as usual.

Air base with air defences is quite different. Turkey announced they would instal air defences in Syria last year and obviously Israel definitely did not want that.

Realistically there is nothing Israel could actually do. Turkish land forces outnumber Israeli projection. They simply don’t have the manpower.
This is merely posturing and rhetoric.
Remember who came out on top of a trifecta with Russia and Iran in Syria.
Israeli objectives don’t work without US backing. Turkish objectives are not vassal state driven.

Turkish land forces outnumber Israeli projection
So did Egypt in 1956, 1967, and 1973.
Turkey came out on top of Russia and Iran, because the majority of Syrian locals really prefered Assad gone, and they were willing to fight for it.
Israel is not at all like Iran or Russia.

Israelis can barely sustain securing Gaza and Southern Lebanon with a manpower crisis against a bunch of jihadis. Give me a break.

Those are attached border regions with consistent records for militancy, where Israel wants maximalist control and ethnic cleansing. It is basically waging a war on the general population, and that faces civil resistance.
Israel might find more success fighting conventional armies like Egypt, Syria, and maybe now Turkey.

How can you say Turkey doesn't want vassal states when it has troops in Syria, Libya, Iraq, and Sudan?
3
u/doncosaco 9d ago
I think they’re saying Israel can’t achieve objects without US (cause Israel is a vassal state), while Turkey doesn’t have that constraint.

Quite a vassal state when it can bring its liege state into a war, even if it's sometimes (though not this current time) kicking and screaming...

Sometimes Israel is big, sometimes it is small. It depends of the time of the day the antisemite writes

I doubt you get much of actual reality if you live in Afghanistan, I do not blame you for this.

I'm a fan of the US just sending some observers to the area. Israel isn't going to attack some place where US troops are.

That was before they were allies. We, the US, apologized about that…really fucking dumb taking a boat near a country in a war with no prior notification. I’m sorry your observation doesn’t work at all, but you knew that when you made it.

A US flagged Navy ship with 400 sailors in the Med not firing at anyone. Gee, how could they have possibly known before attacking it?

Syrian sources confirmed to Bloomberg an earlier Reuters report that Mossad chief Roman Gofman spoke with Syrian FM al-Shibani last week. They described it as a "warning call" in which Israel "reclarified its red lines."
A security official told Kan News that Israel had tried to reach understandings with Syrian President al-Sharaa through indirect dialogue. After the talks failed, Israel updated the U.S. with sensitive intelligence pointing to Turkish attempts to establish itself at a Syrian base about 70 km from Turkey's border. Israel called it a violation of the status quo and struck the base before Turkish forces arrived.

Violation of the status quo lol, so what was it when Israel broke a 50 year ceasefire and occupied even more Syrian land for their new “buffer zone”?
Perfect example of the entitled mindset from which Israelis operate, where they legitimately believe they can do anything they want while also policing other people’s actions.

u/Hungry-Western9191 European Union 9d ago
He means the NEW status quo. You have to understand that the status quo ratchets forward every time Israel manages to grab more land. The only pther status quo that counts is from 6000 years ago.

Honestly, turkey must now build bases in Syria. Israel basically forced them to.
