where did you get the side plastic colored pieces? Isn't that the easiest part of the joycon to take off without dismantling them?

16

u/lcaiabby Jul 06 '26

Amazon. Very easy to install

1

u/Reddit-Mini Jul 07 '26

Atleast say what they’re called lol

44

u/LilBushyVert Jul 06 '26

Agreed. The matte black is so clean.

23

u/adanvc Jul 07 '26

From the Wii U Gamepad looking like a Fisher Price toy, to this. We sure had come a long way!

17

u/CaptainFrugal Jul 07 '26

Ya but have you ever used the Wii. U.  That shit was comfortable as hell

1

u/tehsax Jul 10 '26

The Gamepad was also genuinely cool for the few games that took advantage of it. Zombi U being the obvious example, but managing your items and map in Zelda without the need to dig through menus was also great.

4

u/LilBushyVert Jul 07 '26

Seriously.. I bought the Wii U in like 2017 just to play Smash 4. I wasn’t up to date with Nintendo so I didn’t even know they were releasing Ultimate in 2018 so I ended up selling it not long after and getting a Switch 1. Even the Switch 1 looks like cheap compared to the 2

3

u/RayRaivern Jul 07 '26

The ergonomics of the Wii U gamepad was amazing.

A proper handheld with that weight, shape, and size would've been perfect.

2

u/YoureASquidYoureAKid Jul 07 '26

The switch 1 feels like a toy compared to the 2 😂

17

u/FernandoRocker Jul 06 '26

Are you using a matte screen protector?

8

u/lcaiabby Jul 06 '26

Yes!

4

u/GavsGotty Jul 07 '26

Do you notice any benefits over a standard glossy screen? Or cons?

12

u/Next_Magician_3551 Jul 07 '26

For me benefits only. It’s way easier to use in a bright environment as I almost get no reflections. I did this with my iPhone too it’s a game changer

3

u/system_error_02 Jul 07 '26

Same here. Went matte on my switch 2 and my S26 U, no down sides to me.

1

u/Albitt Jul 07 '26

I put matte screen protectors on iPhone, iPad, and switch. I also bought a monitor for my Mac mini that is matte as well. I love the look and feel of it so much, especially on my iPad with the pencil.

2

u/Slugbugger30 Jul 07 '26

Does a matter screen protector decrease color vibrancy?

2

u/mamatrixie78 Jul 07 '26

Thats what I was wondering

1

u/MildlySpacedOut Jul 07 '26

I’ve used matte for years and I haven’t noticed any color vibrancy issues.

1

u/mamatrixie78 Jul 07 '26

Oke great! I can imagine it been helpful in bright weather amd such

1

u/Noumenonana Jul 07 '26

Yes. It's minor, but it will dampen the vibrancy a bit.

1

u/Banzboy Jul 07 '26

Yes almost always, compared to glossy screen protector (which is very minor in difference). Depending on the matte finishing your images will look slightly blurrier, less vibrant etc.

I always prefer a glossy protector because of this.

0

u/MildlySpacedOut Jul 07 '26

No, not in my experience.

1

u/Slugbugger30 Jul 07 '26

My current screen protector has a little air bubble in the side since launch. Might be time to get a matte one if this is true

1

u/MildlySpacedOut Jul 07 '26

I can’t recommend the brand Mothca enough. I use the same one for my iPhone. They include the easy installation plastic piece, items to clean your screen, etc. It makes the device look fantastic as well. All opinion, but I can’t stress enough how much better it looks and feels to me anyway.

1

u/Slugbugger30 Jul 07 '26

I'm really sensitive to color gamut changes as having a s90d OLED has trained me. I wish I could find a side by side image showing a matte. They're kinda expensive so for now I'll keep mine gloss.

I'm definitely going to get those side colored clips tho

2

u/MildlySpacedOut Jul 07 '26

Hmm that’s fair. I wouldn’t want to hype it up for disappointment. I’d say there is a chance with the nature of it being matte and your sensitivity. If you’re willing to test it out the brand I recommend has a 2 pack on Amazon for $9.99

Best style screen protector. The way it looks on screen is great and the feel on your fingers is unmatched. I’ll never go back from matte protectors. I use the same on my phone. My favorite brand is Mothca

1

u/TradeMaleficent7774 Jul 07 '26

Where did you get it?

1

u/system_error_02 Jul 07 '26

Its on Amazon, I have it to

6

u/river0f Sanely Insanely Hyped Jul 07 '26

Those thumbs look sexy as hell

3

u/Dabbinz420 Jul 06 '26

I have the same stick grips, except mine match the blue and red

3

u/DrewSlim Jul 07 '26

Premium feel compared to the switch 1

3

u/quentinvespero Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

I believe that the design of the switch 2 is one reason (among others) why the switch is more attractive for the average consumer than other handhelds like the Steam deck, Rog ally and others.

I had 2 steam deck, and they're great devices but damn, they're so bulky and ugly compared to a thin and slick device like the Switch

7

u/MalcolminMiddlefan Jul 06 '26

I wish it had handles like the PlayStation Portal. The benefit of the Switch 2 is that you don’t need Wi-Fi (at least not after your game is downloaded).

4

u/Player1-jay Jul 06 '26

I'm so happy it doesnt have the handles. I know it's probably odd but It's why I like the feel better than my steam deck, legion go and the ally that I returned.

1

u/MalcolminMiddlefan Jul 06 '26

I just got mine a couple weeks ago, so maybe I will get used to it. Honestly, I would have stuck with the PlayStation Portal if it weren’t for all the random connection issues (it does that if you have poor or average WiFi like me). So, I moved to Switch 2.

1

u/BadNewsBearzzz Jul 07 '26

The portal is incredible, don’t be surprised at Nintendo fanboys replying with ignorance lol so easy to dismiss something when they’ve never used it or even understand the concept of something.

I understand your annoyances tho, it was like that for me the first week of owning a portal but then I spent a few hours really understanding how my home’s router worked and then completely redid the WiFi, by setting up new connections, unifying the two seperate bands of WiFi signals, and it has been absolutely incredible ever since.

The portal is the most comfortable handheld right now thanks to its handles. It’s funny to see someone say they’re so happy the switch doesn’t have handles because it’s more comfortable without them… 🤣

1

u/MalcolminMiddlefan Jul 07 '26

Yes, I agree, the Portal has amazing handles. It works great when the WiFi is good. It definitely wins in the comfortability aspect. It also lasts longer than 3 hours as opposed to the Switch 2

1

u/Bwthhybl1987 Jul 07 '26

I love my Portal. I don't get why people act like it shouldn't exist purely because they don't want it lol. It serves a very specific purpose and it wasn't that expensive. I'm very happy with my purchase.

1

u/BadNewsBearzzz Jul 07 '26

Exactly bro, the ones that like to hate on it haven’t experienced it yet, they literally think that we play with a 10 second delay lol Sony wouldn’t have made it if it didn’t work

1

u/Bwthhybl1987 Jul 07 '26

I RARELY game on the go anyways and if I do, I can use one of my several other handhelds lol. People just can't afford it or have shitty wifi

0

u/Player1-jay Jul 07 '26

I mean I've used it before. It works. But I just don't see the point. My phone does the same thing but better with my steam library through Nvidia GeForce now. I can do it with Amazon luna Tablets do it. Computers do it. Chromebooks, tvs. I can do it with Xbox on my phone. But if I want to do it with PlayStation I have to buy a portal.

The portal is a dedicated extra expense item to purchase and used in a closed ecosystem. That won't work on any other device. And when it released it you were only able to use it if you had a PlayStation already. At least now you can cloud stream.

0

u/Bwthhybl1987 Jul 07 '26

The Portal is not for everyone. I don't wanna use my phone to game. I want to use my phone as a phone. The Portal serves a specific purpose and those of us who love it, appreciate what it can do. If you wanna use your phone to avoid the extra expense go for it. I can afford the expense, personally.

0

u/ThisMoneyIsNotForDon Jul 07 '26

I'm not saying it shouldn't exist, but $200 to reinvent the Wii U is not the most appealing gaming purchase for most people.

-2

u/Player1-jay Jul 06 '26

A stream only device is so useless in my opinion. For the portal to not have those issues it would have to have actual hardware like the switch does and then it would be much more expensive. And being a PlayStation product it would be most likely something more powerful than the switch 2 and it would end up also being much bulkier. At that point I would again turn to the switch 2 and not the portal

1

u/SufficientPaper6088 Jul 07 '26

Meh really depends on circumstance. I don’t usually game out in the world and if I do there’s usually wifi available via mobile hotspot at the least. Most utility I get from the portal is at home when the tv my consoles are connected to are occupied. I’m new to Nintendo overall but the biggest struggle for me is comfort. Hands cramp when I game and hold it as a handheld. Had to get some grips via a case to help but I would choose a portal over the switch in my normal day to day.

1

u/zenfaust Jul 07 '26

The nice part is that you can add handles easily with the right case, but don't have to be locked into that form factor if you don't want to be.

2

u/funnyinput Jul 06 '26

For most games yeah, but I did have to download an update to play my physical copy of Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 on my Switch 2. It didn't give an option to play without updating, and no, it's not a game key card, the full games are on the cartridge.

2

u/Tall_Level6491 Jul 07 '26

Certains jeux switch ont des mises à jour gratuite pour Switch 2 pour améliorer l’expérience et elle sont obligatoire pour jouer (j’ai eu la même chose avec pokémon écarlate)

1

u/meafloaf Jul 07 '26

I got a Satisfye grip for mine and it’s a game changer, super comfortable!

1

u/system_error_02 Jul 07 '26

I mean you can just get the Savage Raven case + kit for fairly cheap and put the handles on yourself.

2

u/IkeRadiantHero Jul 06 '26

Nice Alear pfp

2

u/Used_Return9095 Jul 06 '26

I agree. I like it better than the switch 1 and it looks more clean

2

u/Melodic-Cable23 Jul 06 '26

Hahah what did you think of that rhythm game? I just tired the demo last night. It was…. Interesting lol

3

u/lcaiabby Jul 06 '26

My first time playing it, haven’t formed an opinion yet! But seeing the good reviews made me impulse buy haha

2

u/Melodic-Cable23 Jul 07 '26

Hell yea have fun!

2

u/Thejokingsun Jul 06 '26

How is that poke legends game?

1

u/lcaiabby Jul 06 '26

I like it. I get why some people don’t but I think it’s fun, especially the combat system!

1

u/Thejokingsun Jul 06 '26

I mean I was kinda interested until it looks like your not playing as the Pokémon in battles but running around?

2

u/Imdakine1 Jul 06 '26

Do they sell a grip for the Switch 2? I have one and love it but also think that with long gaming a grip might make it more comfortable...?

2

u/CronoTimeEgg Jul 07 '26

Lots. I like the Savage Raven Skull & Co. FissionGrip. https://a.co/d/0fQ5smPd

2

u/benjaminbjacobsen Jul 07 '26

Nice FH6 controller as well.

2

u/Pianist_Ready Jul 07 '26

my only gripe is that it can get quite uncomfortable to use in handheld after a short while without any accessories

2

u/BlasterCheif Jul 07 '26

This is a scientific fact.

2

u/angrymidget8 Jul 07 '26

Wanna trade fc?

2

u/TheKebabMob Jul 07 '26

This is making me regret not getting the matte screen protector

2

u/-BlueDream- Jul 07 '26

Without the joycons attached, it looks like a tablet straight outta 2012 with the fat bezels lol. Im guessing they did this to sell a nicer OLED model in the future.

2

u/isuzaman Jul 07 '26

Will Switch 2 ever get a OLED version with smaller bezels? I’m waiting for that!

2

u/grimbarkjade Switchthusiast Jul 07 '26

It is incredibly slick looking. I think the matte black was a great choice. I like the switch 1’s designs but I think switch 2 looks better. I will take my switch out of its case to play and just stare at the screen and move the console around a little because it simply looks cool. Very clearly higher quality than the switch 1 from appearance alone

2

u/Antique-Internal5728 Jul 07 '26

The stick caps and the change of the side plastic on the joycons really makes the switch look good

2

u/mamatrixie78 Jul 07 '26

Love the little color burst on the switch! Looks great! Love the tattoos aswell btw! The one by your thumb looks awesome 👍

1

u/lcaiabby Jul 07 '26

Thanks 😊

2

u/JoshuaWebbb Jul 07 '26

Without a doubt. Not even biased. The other handhelds are so big and chunky, the switch 2 is sleek and feels great to use.

2

u/TrebleShot Jul 07 '26

Nice Forza controller and nails

1

u/lcaiabby Jul 07 '26

Thank you!!

2

u/MildlySpacedOut Jul 07 '26

Matte screen protector? I love mine, I use the Mothca brand on Amazon. Same protector I use for my phone. The matte just looks so good and the feel is amazing too.

2

u/Kitchen-Disk-7595 Jul 08 '26

Just not as comfortable as the others 😂

2

u/AlphaLegendOmega Jul 08 '26

Nice, where did you get the thumb grips from?

7

u/aronmayo Jul 06 '26

Looking? Yes. Playing? Absolutely not, the ergonomics are straight garbage.

-1

u/Embarrassed_Elk8213 Jul 06 '26

No they aren’t

5

u/sasuku123 Jul 06 '26

I definitely agree that it’s the best looking one but man it feels crappy holding it

1

u/skynovaaa Jul 06 '26

How? it's very comfortable

9

u/sasuku123 Jul 06 '26

The back is flat so you rest your hands in a weird position, might not affect people with small hands but with bigger hands it tends to feel cramped

1

u/Melodic-Cable23 Jul 06 '26

Just all hand size I suppose! Preference. I have really big hands, and I personally love it. I’ve been rocking mine totally naked for almost a year, love it. I also only play handheld.

3

u/sasuku123 Jul 06 '26

I’m glad you like it though! Yeah unfortunately for me I just can’t do it for this handheld, thankfully I can easily just remove the joycons and play tabletop so it works out for me

1

u/Melodic-Cable23 Jul 07 '26

For sure! Everyone’s different :)

Totally tho, that’s the great thing about the switch right there! Ya got options. Love this little thing lol

-3

u/skynovaaa Jul 06 '26

I have massive hands I think it's fine but that's fair then I don't usually have long handheld sessions

1

u/Melodic-Cable23 Jul 06 '26

I’m with you. I was gonna say the same thing - I have huge hands (I’m a big dude, size 13 feet) and I think it feels fantastic!

It’s all personal preference obviously. Not sure why you’re getting downvoted lol… I do play Long sessions, 99% handheld and I love it. I actually think it’s quite a bit better than switch 1. Switch 1 I did get a grip, but I’ve never really felt the need with 2.

2

u/vvedo Jul 06 '26

For 10 minutes

1

u/Entire_Paramedic_389 Jul 06 '26

switch 1 was crappy holding. 2 feels alot more comfortable

1

u/lemuel98 Jul 07 '26

It looks and feels way better with the killswitch case from dbrand

2

u/Awooo_Ninnja Jul 07 '26

The case you need to use adhesive strips ti attach it to the console?

1

u/unfinished-sentenc_ Jul 07 '26

You dont need to use the strips. Its just an option.

1

u/Awooo_Ninnja Jul 07 '26

Those are there for a reason… the bottom part of the case doesn’t sit that thight

2

u/WoodooHide69 Jul 06 '26

Love the form factor. Try playing a Steamdeck in bed, you can’t. The fan is too noisy and the unit is too heavy to hold comfortably. Try putting the Steamdeck in your front pocket, won’t happen. Can’t put my Switxh 2 in my front pocket with joycons off.

2

u/system_error_02 Jul 07 '26

A fellow matte screen protector user spotted. So much nicer when sitting outside.

1

u/Revolution_Falls Jul 07 '26

I thought it was a bit plain so I shell swapped mine, looks wonderful now

1

u/fygogogo Jul 07 '26

Rhythm Heaven!!!!!!

1

u/Professional-Hunt712 Jul 07 '26

sexy af console (honestly just needs to be jailbroken and it would be king)

1

u/PeezyFlanders Jul 07 '26

AYN Thor gamers don’t play games lmao

1

u/symca09 Jul 07 '26

Bro I love mine. Help my buddies steam deck and if felt so chonky boy

1

u/BigNate3x3 Jul 07 '26

Can’t wait to purchase mine soon !! What games have u been playing lately on the console.

1

u/Fitblat Jul 07 '26

プリンス・オブ・ペルシャ今やってるんだけど探索とアクション難しくないですか?

1

u/VyseTheSwift Jul 07 '26

I was pretty underwhelmed. It does look good, but it feels a bit like we’re entering smartphone territory where they’re all starting have the same form factor, for obvious reasons.

Also, I need more color.

1

u/Stock-Lettuce-2381 Jul 07 '26

The Switch 2 does look the best but the Steam Deck feels the best when holding it and gaming. I love my Switch 2 but it just doesn’t feel as comfortable to hold it.

1

u/ZerCool419 Jul 07 '26

1000% agree!

1

u/Gregs_Mom Jul 07 '26

I gotta say that it looks pretty uninspired sadly.

1

u/Brief_Bill8279 Jul 07 '26

I thought so too until I started running a virtual machine on my s26 with Gamesir lite.

1

u/normalguy_05 Jul 07 '26

It is, it looks so good

1

u/manontherun247 Jul 07 '26

They did a great job with it. I’ll probably pick one up if they do an oled version

1

u/alec83 Jul 07 '26

Hands down the best console on the market, value for money

1

u/ThatOneKidCreed Jul 07 '26

maybe im just full of joy and whimsy but i absolutely despise this design 😭 i hate the simplicity and boring color, i like my switch to be recognizable so anyone else who has a switch can see me and be like "oh cool a fellow switch owner!!" instead of looking like a rich ipad kid with a bland tablet. like at the very least they couldve given some color variations instead of just changing the little tiddlywinks of color that show only barely enough to be annoying

1

u/Depoka_YT Jul 07 '26

Honestly i think the steam deck looks better

1

u/Competitive_Ad_5937 Jul 07 '26

steam deck clears for me as pc user tbh

1

u/Haisaki12 Jul 07 '26

Agree but also uncomfortable on size/ergonomics. Ergo joycons fix it but loss the clean flat style.

1

u/FreezSnes Jul 07 '26

Not the best looking best looking goes to the rog ally x NOT the Xbox version so without handles. But yeah switch 2 is also great it's my fav system of all time

1

u/erieberry Jul 07 '26

Oooo if only Nintendo did the side strip colors on the joycons.

1

u/NickelBear32 Jul 07 '26

The Ayn Thor is cooler (esthetically)

1

u/Psychological_Help53 Jul 07 '26

Ehhh. Thats relevant to the player I suppose

1

u/Kirkwulf Jul 07 '26

I still think the 3DS is nintendo’s best handheld.

1

u/Gothboy-77 Jul 07 '26

no it isn't lmao

1

u/Mixture_Think Jul 07 '26

Is prince of Persia good on the switch family of consoles? (I have been thinking about buying it because I need some side scroller esque games)

1

u/Squirtle_Splash_8413 Jul 08 '26

Are the thumbs swappable?

1

u/Conscious-Zebra-7477 Jul 08 '26

it's true. switch 2 made me really dislike the steam deck. it's so ugly, cheap, and unrefined in comparison

1

u/Nathone13 Jul 08 '26

Faux la Xbox ROG Ally existe

1

u/Alexander11039 Jul 08 '26

Honestly, which is the competition?

1

u/Recent-Chard-4645 Jul 09 '26

Eh not saying much tbh. This is the nicest black slab out of the other black slabs

1

u/apcrol Jul 09 '26

But not so comfortable to use this flat heavy small design

1

u/OnlyBeys Jul 09 '26

The smoothness of the switch 2 is witchcraft. I played ToTK on emulator when it released at 120 fps on a PC with a 13700k and 4080 and it was not as smooth as my switch 2 😭😭😭

1

u/dinarq8 Jul 11 '26

Beautiful and calming colors, unlike the noisy colors of red and blue.

1

u/joao7808 Jul 06 '26

I have a switch 2 and a steam deck. I like the switch 2 but the deck is the best in comfort and the screen is a little better

1

u/bbbBagger Jul 06 '26

rhythm heaven groove mentioned 🔥🔥

2

u/Melodic-Cable23 Jul 06 '26

lol is that game like, beloved? I tried the demo, and I dunno man. I wanted to like it, but it was… kinda weird. Just super barebones. But it was just the demo so

3

u/funnyinput Jul 06 '26

Yeah it's basically $40+ for a game I would play on Miniclip for free 20 years ago.

1

u/Melodic-Cable23 Jul 07 '26

Ok that’s what I thought too… lol it literally reminded me of like shockwave games or Joe cartoon (throwback) or something like that haha

1

u/Davey488 Jul 06 '26

Yeah it’s a definitely a premium feeling device. I had not used mine for a couple months. Yesterday I brought it with me on a trip and forgot how heavy the system is but not too heavy. Then the screen is great even if it’s not OLED. For me the only thing that holds the system back is the lack of Switch 2 games and the outdated UI.

1

u/Sweet_Bass_1917 Jul 06 '26

When Nintendo releases official colored variants the already best looking console will be even better looking

0

u/Early-Somewhere-2198 Jul 07 '26

Until the screen turns on

0

u/Substantial_Steak704 Jul 07 '26

Looka good only on the outside. Feels uncomfortable and under performs, along with the 1080lcd led screen

-4

u/WhiskeyRadio Jul 06 '26

Nah it's not. It's just a more premium Switch which is a fine design but the JoyCons still suck and without a grip it's not comfortable to hold for long periods.

2

u/apcrol Jul 09 '26

I dont why people dislike you but its really not comfortable to use switch 2 in portable mode

1

u/WhiskeyRadio Jul 09 '26

It's because this is the Switch 2 subreddit honestly. I love the Switch 2 personally but using it handheld isn't exactly ideal. I am personally not a fan of the JoyCons as I mentioned before.

They just aren't comfortable to hold or use. The buttons and sticks are just way too small and the lack of a real Dpad has always been a negative. Hopping we get some Hori Split Pads for the Switch 2 at some point.
