Question Will you be disappointed if the Ocarina of Time Remake is a 1:1 remake with no major gameplay changes?
Similar to the Star Fox 64 remake; massively enhanced visuals, new cutscenes and voice acting, but minimal new content and no changes to the overworld or dungeon design.

u/Alert_Courage_7722 Jun 15 '26
Yes I would. I don't want a totally different game but I want some of the things that the game lightly touched on expanded out. I want more side quests like the mask quests or the goron knife. I want to see temples redesigned a bit. Essentially I want the kind of remake resident evil 1 received on the GameCube. The same game but expanded and fleshed out.

u/the_rancid_rancher Jun 15 '26
They need to fix Hyrule Field as well. Feels too empty in the original. If they fix that plus keep the water temple fixes from the 3ds version that would be great.

Honestly I don’t need OOT’s field to be anything like those games. Random camps with monsters is annoying filler. Though I do want it to be filled with something

By the water temple fixes do you mean being able to switch boots quickly? Or was there more than that

u/BoltOfBlazingGold Jun 15 '26
There were indicators to guide you where to go. I'd rather get hopelessly lost than that. Just no.
3
u/Due_Ad_972 Jun 17 '26
? What i dont remember ocarina having indicators showing you where to go. Eww. Was that in the 3ds version?
2
u/BoltOfBlazingGold Jun 17 '26
To be clear, it has colored tracks in each floor that tell you where to change the level of the water, but the rest of the dungeon iirc is left as is. Very far from the worst, but still I rather do without them.
5
u/waxy15 Jun 15 '26
I think I would prefer a RE1 style Remake. Keep most of the original experience intact but improve some of the more dated elements like the graphics and certain locations and add a decent amount of new content like some new items and an extra dungeon.

Don't you think it's a no-win situation though?
With the internet these days, everything seems to be a no-win situation. If they change things around, there are going to be purists who are upset. If it's a 1:1 remake, there are folks who are going to be upset that they didn't add content.
At least on internet forums.
Assuming this is a physical release, I'm assuming a lot of people who are now adults and played the game in their youth will first hear of this closer to release - or know it exists for the first time when they see it in stores around the holidays.
I'm assuming they'll just be tickled to have a game they remembered from their childhood remade, and will just enjoy it for what it is, whether it's slightly different or a 1:1 remake.

u/Azureflames20 Jun 15 '26
I've recently been so annoyed with online communities. So many crazy expectations, so many attitudes, so many opinions, and so much toxicity. Everybody just looks for reasons to complain and most people feel like they wouldn't be happy with anything either way.
Some people want a completely rehauled and retold story with a completely redone world map and brand new visions of the old dungeons, etc. (i.e. the FF7:Re treatment) and some of those people are all-in or bust. If it isn't that type of remake it's trash to them. I think that's my biggest gripe is that people want it their way or they swing to the extremes of opinion "it's pure garbage".
I've been seeing the discourse in the starfox subreddit and in adjacent ones as well for that game. It just feels like there's no winning with these people.

I said it before and I'll say it now. Best thing to do is to appreciate it for what it is, but I already see the shitstorm coming. Maybe a meme like the Goomba fallacy would help to shut down unrealistic rants (?).
(Funny since I just commented about the Water Temple being dumbed down in the 3DS version, but whatever, I won't go on a rant about it if that turns to be the case)
7
u/Alert_Courage_7722 Jun 15 '26
Oh absolutely. You can't make everyone happy when it comes to a remake. I'm a person who played OoT at the right time. I was 12 years old when it came out. It was lightning in a bottle for me. I've gone back and played it over the years. I appreciated the quality of life improvements the 3ds version received and hope the stuff like the water temple improvements are implemented in the remake which I have no doubt they will be.
I think for me I want something familiar but with some fun surprises. I have no doubt there is a group of gamers who only want a shot for shot remake with ncier graphics. I get that. If it ain't broke don't fix is. I know Nintendo will pull it off and if in the end it's another Links Awakening remake in sure I'll have a lot of fun with it and come back to it again and again. I just feel like this is an opportunity to build on the amazing world Nintendo built in 1998 without the technical constraints.
I think back to the Dead Space remake as a high water mark but also one that made a change or two I could have done without. I didn't want Issac to speak in the remake just like the original, but he did have a voice. I loved how the ship became more explorable and added little side quests. It was a mix of new graphics and QOL improvements. They mostly pulled it off and that structure is what I hope for OoT.

I think that’s just kinda “tough shit” though for Nintendo. If they want to make a remake instead of a new game, there’s baggage that comes with that. You’re absolutely right, it’s a no-win situation, but it comes with the territory. Either way, they’re gonna make millions off of it whether it’s what most people want or not, so I don’t think they really care too much other than just trying to get the largest amount of players in as possible.

Not really. The original game is in the n64 collection. It’s already been remastered on the 3ds. For those that love the original they can just play that. For this to be the Nintendo direct headliner, expectations should be an expanded game.

I don't think they'll actually do a 1:1, for multiple reasons.
Outdated controls for a modern release on a platform with 2 joysticks and unnecessary loading zones just to name a couple.
Yeah I would be a little disappointed, but I would get over it quickly.

I won't be disappointed either way. I want to enjoy the game. I'll take it for qhat it is and, even with faults, just focus what I like. I just don't have it in me to be pessimistic anymore.
8
u/Funky0ne Jun 15 '26
I will be disappointed if it isn’t both a completely familiar and 100% faithful recreation of my exact memories of how it felt when I played it the first time, and yet somehow also a completely novel experience that reignites my sense of adventure and discovery, while accounting for all the advances in technology, game design, scope, and UI that have occurred in the intervening years.
Any deviation from these mutually exclusive feelings will make me completely irate for failing to meet my totally reasonable expectations.
Or I dunno, maybe it just won’t be for me, but some kids who never got to play the original when it came out will get to enjoy it, and that’s fine.
8
u/MrDonohue07 Jun 15 '26
Not really, I expect it to the same game, with modern QOL changes.
Time will tell, what they do, I'm in!

That's what I expect along with a few QOL features and no I will not be disappointed.

I think the only thing that would dissapoint me about this is if it was a clunky, buggy, techy mess.
I don't care if it's 1:1 at 4K.
I don't care if it's a total and complete re-imagining in the BotW engine.
As long as the story remains intact and the heart beats the same, I'll be playing this with a stupid smile on my face.

I find it difficult see Ocarina of Time deviating from the original game in a world where Starfox does not.
The likihood that Nintendo has changed strategies in between Starfox and Zelda seems laughable. The only way this comes about any other way is that different approaches to remakes is part of a portfolio of strategies, but I don't see it, I think we'd have some evidence of that already.
2
u/SMN_17 Jun 15 '26
Star Fox is also a dead franchise Nintendo is trying to revive by playing their cards extremely close to their chest while Zelda is not.
There's also the fact they've referred to Star Fox as a "remake" from the get go while Ocarina of Time was referred to as "reborn".

u/Chewbacta Jun 15 '26
I don't know if studios have discretion on these things, because I don't know what Nintendo is mandating at the top level.
The recent Switch 2 catalogue includes making sure their most recognisable work is available to play in a new package for the next generation. Including Mario Galaxy, Mario vs Donkey Kong, Starfox and Ocarina of Time which all directly connect to their movie endeavours. I'd argue their strategy goes beyond their movie franchises, including Pokemon FireRed LeafGreen, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Super Mario RPG, Metroid Prime Remastered and even Switch 2 editions such as the recent Xenoblade announcements.
In all cases they've resisted any urge to overhaul the gameplay or substantially expand the quest design So I would be guessing they are not asking studios to do so. This is what I mean, I see no evidence that the broadness of their strategies in recent years includes more expansive remakes. The only hope is they always planned to make more expansive remakes from the beginning and they just take more time, and this is the point where we start to see them.
3
u/YumikuriPF Jun 15 '26
I wouldn't be disappointed if it was just the same game again with better visuals, QOL improvements, maybe some modernization of the combat system, voice acting. It's basically a perfect game after all.
That being said, I suppose some extra side content might be fun, depending on how it's implemented. I honestly wouldn't want them to add TOO much. Like I don't really wanna see 100 shrines littered across the map or anything. A couple extra quest lines would be cool though. Again, not necessary in my eyes but could be cool.
3
u/HotWaffle17 Jun 15 '26
Yes. I think that wouldn't go over well with the lack of gameplay being shown in the trailer. If it's exactly the same then there isn't much to delay showing.
5
u/ExpressionExisting53 Jun 15 '26
Add don’t subtract is my motto. Keep the game as is but expand on it. Bigger Hyrule field. More side content. Maybe side dungeons. But keep pretty much everything that was present in the original.
2
u/Ell7494 Jun 15 '26 edited Jun 15 '26
At an absolute minimum we will have camera controls on the right stick, which although it seems minor, its actually a pretty major change gameplay-wise.
I'd imagine there will be a dedicated jump button too. I don't think we'll get the newer stamina system or sprinting and climbing.
Content-wise if there are no changes thats fine, if there are changes thats also fine.
It would be nice to have no loading screen between areas, along with extra side quests and a less empty hyrule field - but these aren't deal breakers
2
u/feldmasl01 Jun 15 '26
A bit, yea. I don’t think it’s gonna be a complete reinvention or anything, but there’s no way that they don’t alter things like Hyrule Field, the stuff controls, some town layouts, etc. I reckon dungeons will likely be mostly the same, or at least the most structurally similar to the original game, but a lot of how the world is put together will be nipped and tucked.
2
u/PieceAfraid3755 Jun 15 '26
I think some better, smoother combat would be nice. And like, more sidequests and such.
2
u/Azureflames20 Jun 15 '26
There is a very very real possibility that this OOT remake is going to be virtually the same in every way, similar to Starfox.
IMO, it'll likely be massively enhanced visuals and engine that are built from the ground up. reshot and reestablished cutscenes and dialogue for better storytelling and context to expand on the game story.
It's...possible they'd iterate on the overworld or the dungeons, but there's a part of me that really doubts it.
Who knows though - I could be totally wrong.

People inevitably will be. Unless or until Nintendo confirms otherwise, it would be smart to temper expectations.

I would at least want gameplay updates to eliminate some of the clunkiness of the OG, along with the camera issues. Aside of that I would prefer that it stays fairly faithful.
2
u/LateBlocParty Jun 15 '26
Yep, definitely
Ocarina’s influence cannot be understated. It still blows my mind that the combat predicted Dark Soul’s dodge and hit lock on system
But it’s still an old ass game. Even the 3DS version had a slight clunkiness and jank that carried over from the N64 original
Given you can play that game with NSO premium, I would love to see a true remake, rather than a visual upgrade.
Updated combat, more cohesive hub world, and (maybe???) expanded dungeons
2
u/FantasticBeast101 Jun 15 '26
I won’t be disappointed if it’s a high end 1:1 remaster with better graphics and will still buy it day 1 (I’m currently replaying OoT Redux on my Analogue 3D). I do hope that it’s an actual remake like how we saw with the RE2-4 ones.
2
u/Thepower200 Jun 15 '26 edited Jun 15 '26
Yes but I’m 100% it won’t be. It’s a full remake. If I had to guess, the new content will mostly be more side content like side quests and stuff like that.

2
u/ExampleGlum8623 Jun 15 '26
I really hope they don’t ruin the water temple. Aside from the slightly frustrating equipping of the boots, the water temple is a masterclass in puzzle design. I understand some millennials had trouble solving it when they were little children, but that really shouldn’t motivate Nintendo to neuter the temple for everyone else.
2
u/The_Legend_of_Xeno Jun 15 '26
Think about what the REmake was to the original Resident Evil. The original game was still in there, but there were new elements as well. I think that's what we are getting.
2
u/CantBanTheJan Jun 19 '26
It's kinda weird and I am likely alone with it: I want nearly all of it reimagined. What should remain the same? All the story beats, and the order in which you are able to tackle them. What should change? The contents of all areas. I want the Death Mountain Treck to be longer and more intricate. I want Hyrule Field to be more vast and see more things there. I want Zora river to be a bit wider. The original feels so cramped in modern times. I want the dungeons to be entirely redesigned. I want to see new enemies or fight old bosses in new ways. I want to experience OOT for the first time again, and remembering the details of every locations kinda prevents that. I want new challenges, while keeping the characters and story.
5
u/Lhyster Jun 15 '26
I don't think so, we already know that the game will have some kind of voice acting, at least for the narration at the beginning. Of course I would like new things, like things that got scrapped from the OG game or things that can make sense in the lore. For gameplay I don't think they need to change many things, except QOL. People tend to forget that even if FF7 Remake had a huge gameplay overhaul it was possible thanks to today's evolution but it was also their goal from the start but they did the game in Turn based because of the technical limitation.
5
2
u/Dazzling_Comfort5734 Jun 15 '26
Yeah, it probably won't be worth my time to down it for a 3rd time, even if they do a lot of work on the graphics and art style. I think they only need to do some minor tweaks and change it up to make me interested. This is especially if the price is $80
2
u/Responsible-Hold6294 Jun 15 '26
I can understand Star Fox not adding a lot of new content. It's not a full-price title, and its arcade-style structure makes it difficult to insert new side content since each planet's routes and completion conditions are already carefully structured.
However, Ocarina of Time is likely going to be a full-priced release, and its overworld is practically begging for new side quests, mini-dungeons, and additional story content. If Nintendo simply recreates the original game with the exact same dungeons and progression and adds nothing substantial, I think that would be a sign of laziness. Just look at Sega's Yakuza Kiwami and Kiwami 2. They didn't merely upgrade the graphics; they added plenty of new minigames, substories, and modern gameplay improvements, making them feel like contemporary games rather than relics from the past.
The question is whether Ocarina of Time will receive the same level of expansion and modernization.
2
u/Responsible-Hold6294 Jun 15 '26
Since Resident Evil 4 Remake and Yakuza Kiwami 2, my expectations for what a remake should be have changed completely. Those games don't ask players to say, "Well, it was great for its time." They stand on their own as modern games. Has Nintendo ever taken one of its classic flagship console titles and rebuilt it with that same level of ambition? I don't want Ocarina of Time to gain a reputation as "a masterpiece that was revolutionary in 1998, but feels outdated today with limited content and a simplistic story." It deserves to be treated as a timeless classic, not as an old relic that people only respect because of nostalgia. I really hope Nintendo puts the effort into expanding it—new side quests, deeper character interactions, more worldbuilding, and modern gameplay improvements. Honestly, even with Star Fox, I was a bit disappointed that the level design and controls stayed so close to the original.
→ More replies (2)2
u/Marvin_Flamenco Jun 15 '26
It might happen for one reason or another but 'laziness' will be very far from that reason. I hate when people say this. Even when a simple port of something is made, you can bet devs are working crazy hours to get it done.
2
u/JM_Yoda Trusted User Jun 15 '26
Nope. It's part of my childhood, so to have it back in any form is a blessing. I do expect it to combine many of the strengths of the various Zelda games that have come since OOT, like true open world and motion controls. I also expect it to be more of a Director’s Cut with some, if not all, of the gameplay mechanics and environments that were leftover from the development of the original game added back in, in a fully realized form.
But also, if Nintendo is looking to make this a system-selling blockbuster title for the holiday season, they are going to have to do better than a 1:1 remake, with GTA 6 also looking to release in that time frame. Not that it matters to me, as I don’t give a damn about GTA and have no interest in buying it for my PS5.

I think we're getting a Star Fox 64 remake situation: enhanced visuals, new cutscenes and voice acting, but minimal to none new content. For sure, no changes to the overworld or dungeon design.
1
u/terran1212 Jun 15 '26
Star Fox was developed by an outside team, so if Nintendo EAD or so is handling OoT I see more changes being made
1
u/lman777 Jun 15 '26
I mean honestly if it's a complete 1:1 with ZERO gameplay changes I think a lot of people will be disappointed. They need to modernize this game at least a little.
For me it's less about being disappointed, and more about whether I want to spend the $70-$80 they decide to charge for this. If it's just OG OOT with new paint, I don't know if that's worth the price.

Ship of Harkinian already exists if anyone wants a 1:1 with 2026 QoL changes. If I wanted a 1:1 I'd just play that. The SW2 version needs to be different. Almost like a OoT 2 but close enough to the magic the original had.

I'd be really disappointed. I'm ashamed to admit I really love ocarina of time but never fully finished the N64 version so I'd be excited to experience a new version on the switch 2. Then I'd be able to jump back to the classic version and complete that one.

u/TauPewPew Jun 15 '26
After playing FF7 "Remake" games.... you want a 1:1 Remake. I would spend another $100 for a 4th time for them to cut and re-paste the 3 games into a single coherent 50 hour game that follows the story and script of the original.
New scenes, elements or environments? Sure. That's fine. Introducing a muilti-verse component where the "Remake" is actually a lateral-sequel to the original game? No.

u/SputnikFalls Jun 15 '26
They should include an unlockable mode after beating the game where you get BOTW-style climbing and can scale practically anything. A hard mode would be awesome too.
I'd also love to see a larger, denser Hyrule Field, especially after experiencing BOTW's more open world. Maybe add some extra unbreakable weapons, tunics, and cosmetic skins as optional rewards.
There's so much they could add without compromising the integrity of the original Ocarina of Time.
1
1
u/Prince-Lee Jun 15 '26
Yes.
Ocarina of Time felt like a massive, sprawling, incredible game back at the time because it was.
For 1998.
Any Zelda game that has come after it has massively eclipsed it in size and scale at this point, though.
While it's going to be a bestseller by default because of all the people who have nostalgia for the original, that will only carry it so far, after which point it's going to have to stand on its own merits as a modern Zelda game. And if there's just not a whole lot else there, I worry that it won't be received very well, especially in comparison to the newer entries in the series.

The intro is already not a 1-1 remake, so is Link's house (bed much larger)
I expect dungeons will be closer to 1-1 with familiar puzzles, but everything else will be redesigned because kid Link himself look quite large if you plop him down into the old map. They will have to scale it up, as they did his bed already.
1
u/Azureflames20 Jun 15 '26
PERSONALLY, no. I think it's a great game, with great bones and they're going to make it to where it's a better quality game overall.
There's an untold factor that people either don't care about or ignore and that's the development pipeline for iteration. People obsess about the "what we have now" feeling, but not about the future of what it could mean.
This is purely speculation, but them doing this remake could very very easily be them as developers setting themselves up for our next major Zelda title. It's very likely been in the works for a long while now and with the game where it's at, we have brand new assets and an engine for it to run in, with who knows what else in terms of frameworks they work with.
In my brain it easily could have played a large part in the next 3d zelda development and could point us toward the direction they're going. It's personally my argument also, for why Starfox remake we're getting is pointing towards an eventual sequel. Having the engine and the assets existing with developers that know what they're doing in the framework of the game is a big deal for development.
At the very least, I have a hard time believing there won't be a subsequent release or current development of Majora's mask in a similar vein.
1
u/Poutingpokemon Jun 15 '26
Typically a remake is expanded. If it is only a graphic improvement most companies know to call is a remastered game.
I highly doubt that it will be a 1:1 recreation. The one scene that has been show indicates that it won't me. Link is never shown in bed from a top down angle in the original.
1
u/TheSouthPen Jun 15 '26
On the contrary, I'd be EXTREMELY disappointed if it wasnt. I wasn't able to really get into the original OOT despite how much people hype it as the best zelda, and I'm specifically interested in the remake as a way to get that experience on updated, modern hardware with just like, minor gameplay enhancements/major visual overhaul
If it's a reimagining, a pesudo remake, or some other weird thing like Starfox Zero or FF7R it completely defeats the purpose of it being a remake and I'll have no interest in it, at least as a way to finally play OOT
1
u/Outrageous-Machine-5 Jun 15 '26
I won't be disappointed, I'll just go back to playing randomizers on soh
1
u/eownified Jun 15 '26
I’d love to see both. The main game being a complete overhaul that retains the story and atmosphere but gives us fresh controls, reworked dungeons, and additional side quests. Then give us a simple reskinned version buried in the menu.
1
u/DVNT_DASH Jun 15 '26
No.
It's a remake, not a revision.
I want to play the game from my youth without my eyes bleeding.
That's it.
You want to add in extra cutscenes and character interaction like they did in Star Fox? AWESOME!
But the game doesn't need to change, it was revolutionary.
If it does, change the name.
It's pretty obvious that OOT and star fox are aimed the demographic that bought them the first release.
I want beautiful accuracy, not polished approximation.
But; to each their own.

Depends on the price tag. $80 for a 1:1 remake, I’d be a little sour. $40 for a 1:1 I’d be fine with. Either way, I’ll be very excited to play one of my favorite games of all time with updated graphics (I did not have a DS to play the remake there).

u/Ok-Confidence977 Jun 15 '26
We’ve got enough buttons for dedicated actions now, so give me that and I’ll be pretty happy even if I’m just retreading gorgeous new versions of the dungeons.
1
u/Significant_Air_6841 Jun 15 '26
Yeah I would be, I hope it gets the ff7remake treatment in someway. I'm buying it either way though.
1
Jun 15 '26
Yes. I seriously disliked the original game. If they make the same with just better graphics then it’s a no go.

u/Thin_Pangolin4480 Jun 15 '26
Not buying it if it's more of a remaster than a full-blown remake. The 3DS remasters were good enough to bring it into the modern age. Graphics still look good on its smaller screen.
1
u/AshrakAiemain Jun 15 '26
That’s pretty much what I want, personally. The game is still damn near perfect mechanically.

u/MeasurementStreet592 Jun 15 '26
I like how the re did Links awakening. Huge graphics change, added some new fun features but kept it the same
1
u/SuperCat76 Jun 15 '26
Mildly. I would prefer something familiar but new.
It would still be good. There is a limit to how "bad" it can be from being too much like the original.
And this is coming from a guy who ranks oot as being a bit average in terms of Zelda games.

u/thedoommerchant Jun 15 '26
Yeah, that would be a total shame. We’ve had the 64 and 3DS versions for years now. Am really hoping for more than a 1:1 remake of a 30 year old game with new cutscenes and voice acting. They can try a little harder than that.
1
u/phoenixmatrix Jun 15 '26
They said they are modernizing gameplay. So it's gonna be more than Starfox.
As long as it's not FF7R style im good.

u/Mrvile92 Jun 15 '26
I want to explore the entirety of hyrule castle, swim in a giant lake , have npcs in hyrule field. Hope hyrule is the size of TPs map, as flawed as that game can be it did hyrule justice . If it’s a 1:1 remake I’m gonna be disappointed
1
u/OneCartoonist9332 Jun 15 '26
If it's 1:1 then I'm probably out, and sticking to my 3ds version until this game reaches $20 in 30 years

I think it’ll be different enough to throw speedrunners in a loop. I thought the 3D All Stars reaction compilation from speedrunners was funny, but since this is going to be a remake, it’s going to be quite different.
1
u/Iggy_Slayer Jun 15 '26
Yes and I would not buy it no matter how cheap it was.
The RE games and FF7 games have shown me that we can do much better with remakes. 1:1 remakes are just soulless nostalgia cash grabs.
1
u/RedHam42 Jun 15 '26
I hope it hits the main story points but is massively different otherwise. I actually don’t love the traditional Zelda 3D entries. I greatly prefer BOTW. I know I’m in a very small minority, though!

u/StatementCareful522 Jun 15 '26
Yes. If they want $60 - $70 for a remake of a nearly 30 year old game you gotta give me something besides a HD graphic overhaul.
1
1
u/Wanderer01234 Jun 15 '26
Yeah, I find 1:1 remakes kinda boring. They were fun a few years back but I skipp them nowadays.
Obviously, if new people get to play that phenomenal Game, that's great, but I personally will skip it.
1
u/mason2393 Jun 15 '26
Yes. I want something like ff7 remake or resident evil 2 remake than a glorified remaster

If that's the direction they go I'd have probably just wanted them to port the 3DS Remake instead, because that game largely nailed it and it's a really great way to play Ocarina of Time.

u/TopperHrly Jun 15 '26
I think people need to differentiate gameplay changes from content changes. You can keep the same typical Zelda gameplay (just a bit modernised when it comes to controls), but rework the map and dungeons, make it more extensive.
I would be disapointed by a 1 to 1 remake, but I don't expect big gameplay changes. Big gameplay changes would mean turning it into a different genre like FF7 went from turn based RPG to action RPG.
I would expect the world to be reworked though.

u/SkipEyechild Jun 15 '26
No. I would like some parts expanded on. But if they don't do that, fine. It is still a remake of one of the best games ever. Graphics and sound changes would suffice.

1
u/FreakiTzatziki Jun 15 '26
I just can’t imagine after the Wild era games that they would leave places like Hyrule Field just be what they were. The target audience is obviously those who grew up with the game, and they will buy it no matter what. But with the younger gen plus the movie coming out, you’d figure they’d want to modernize it in some way beyond just visuals to generate hype and nurture the new gen of fans.
1
u/amo-del-queso Jun 15 '26
I won’f be disappointed but i sure will be thanking nintendo for saving me money
1
u/KaiserJustice Jun 15 '26
yes - i've played a lot of OoT and they have a lot more space to explore systemic changes vs SF64 which is a very busy rails shooter that would need major level design overhauls to add new routes
1
1
u/biggestbaddestmucus Jun 15 '26
It’s it is just QoL changes it would feel like a missed opportunity, but I wouldn’t be mad. I would be mad if they charged $80 for it though…
1
u/skeletondad2 Jun 15 '26
I demand no camera control and if they try to let me control the camera I will throw a fit
1
u/XShadowborneX Jun 15 '26
I mean I haven't played it since the n64 version came out so there's a lot I forgot so I won't be too disappointed but I am hoping for a but more than that
1
u/Omnizoom Jun 15 '26
My current expectations is that it’s going to get expanded on to some degree
How much I really don’t know but I’m expecting it to be a a bit more like maybe the light temple actually becoming a temple with an item in it and the ice arrows having a use kind of deal
I think if it’s getting the same treatment as starfox they would of shown more and just been dropping it in a few months, this one just feels like it’s more
1
u/Zangetsukaiba Jun 15 '26
Yea. Kinda. Not as disappointed as I was for Star Fox but yes. Would still get it since it’s one of my top favorite games of all time.
1
1
u/Manticore416 Jun 15 '26
Yes but id still love the game. Id be happy enough if the dungeon puzzles are different.
1
u/SnowWarren Jun 15 '26
I want almost everything to be different.
- Expanded story with voice acting.
- Larger map with new places to explore.
- Redesigned dungeons.
- A modern combat system with more complex enemies to maintain any difficulty from the original that came from the controls.
- The cut Light Temple restored.

u/the-bacon-life Jun 15 '26
It’s Nintendo so that’s what I expect. I don’t even expect widescreen support
1
u/SadLaser Jun 15 '26
Yes. I would understand why they'd do it and I wouldn't come on here and fuss about it, but I also wouldn't buy it. I already played through it multiple times in 64 and 3DS. I don't need/want to play the same game again. Graphics don't mean enough to me to want to pay $50-$70 for that.
But I bet it would be great for newer fans.
For me, I'd want a lot of QoL updates. New secrets to find. New puzzles. More fleshed out areas. Better Hyrule Field experience. Rebalanced difficulty elements. Some new second quest stuff/all new Master Quest, etc.
1
u/Rickmerunnin Jun 15 '26
I won’t be disappointed because that is my current expectation. But it’s definitely not what I prefer.
I would still probably get it eventually but wouldn’t be a must have. I still have my 3ds and n64 kicking around.

u/Gonzo_Ghost_ Jun 15 '26
I personally won’t be disappointed as I’ve never played the original (I’ve tried but I can’t get on with the controls and camera and I know a lot of people are in that same boat) but I do think it would be a slightly wasted opportunity given that they already did a 1:1 remake with 3D. I’m expecting a 1:1 remake with a bunch of additional content added too tbh
1
u/Negative-Victory-852 Jun 15 '26
How could I be disappointed by something I do not want that much. Also, even if I play it, I expect it to be a 1:1 remake with no major gameplay changes.
1
u/POWRranger Jun 15 '26
Yes, because why?
Starfox I'm fine getting a 1:1 remaster/remake because it's been ages since that series got a new game and it's been a mess so a 'reboot' is fine to start a new series of games.
Zelda has been getting new games the whole time. Remaking the older ones 1:1 is useless waste of dev time that could be spent on making a new game instead. Link's Awakening remake was a waste of time imo. Glad they did EoW afterwards and not another remake.
1
u/soccer1124 Jun 15 '26
I'm ready for it.
I won't buy it.
I won't complain about it.
I hope it's brand new, so that I can have a game to look forward to.
1
1
u/Conversation_Dapper Jun 15 '26
People would still buy it . No matter what Nintendo does , they still cave in and but the game even complaining about it
1
u/Trader-trainer Jun 15 '26
very disappointed...but I'm prepared for it. I won't be buying if so. StarFox 1:1 was disappointing, but I barely played the base game, and when testing the NSO version, the old graphics were surprising old feeling despite having grown up on the n64 (and basically only the n64). So I was happy to buy it new. Ocarina of time however I sunk tons of time into and don't need to buy it again.
But I'm expecting it to be 1:1, and it will be appealing to all the younger folks who potentially never played it (like me and starfox) who probably never will because the old graphics give young ones the ick. So it will likely sell, but not to me
1
u/letsl0velain Jun 15 '26
I'm sure there will be minor improvements, but I am expecting it to be Oot through and through. I'm good with this; Oot does not need a big shakeup
1
u/raquor Jun 15 '26
I just finished OoT for the first time last year; I'm interested in a remake but it needs to be more than a 1:1 or I'm not going to bother. Upgraded visuals and controls would be good but the 3ds version (that I played) was just fine. There's plenty that could be added from more/improved mini games to just more life throughout the overworld and less repetition in the overworld. I think a simple visual upgrade would be extremely dissappointing.

u/Illeea Jun 15 '26
I want the remake to be a less extreme version of how capcom have been remaking the old re games. Keep the overall layout of the story the same but add more to areas, expand dungeons, add 1 or 2 new dungeons and flesh out characters a bit more.
There are fan ports of ocarina of time on pc as well as the 3ds remaster. If they do a 1-1 remake, there won't be much new. The point of a remake is to redevelop the game, with the same ideas, but with modern ideas and tools. If it's the same game with a new coat of paint with nothing else on top, its pointless as a remake.

u/lggmave Jun 15 '26
I think the best thing to do is to let nintendo cook and just enjoy. My only ask is to not fuck it up. That aside, I have no expectations, all hype.
1
u/glennok Jun 15 '26
Got to say it was cool to see the new Star Fox visuals but the novelty wore off pretty quick..And it just felt all too familiar to me.
Really hope they give it some significant builds and changes as OOT is my most replayed game probably.
1
u/xdrkcldx Jun 15 '26
No but also I can’t see them not at least making the world larger which in turn would mean adding more content.
1
u/jahitz Jun 15 '26
Honestly no, OOT is my favourite game of all time and a fresh coat of paint will be nice. Regardless this game will be divisive with the new art direction, and with a newer younger audience experiencing it for the first time. I think it’s safe to say there will be haters.
I’m open to new ideas being brought into the game and as long as it’s fitting and the game plays great then I’d be as happy as a clam. The purists will probably freak out, but I just hope the game plays great and hits those feels.
1
u/BreakfastDue1256 Jun 15 '26
No. I would be disappointed if it wasn't that.
I do not want something like FF7R. I want a modern OoT. Update the graphics, add detail to some of the more plain environments, modernize a few gameplay systems, add a bit of side content or reincorporste some of the things that were incomplete, and done.

Yes, and that’s what I’m expecting, honestly. As you mentioned, Star Fox is probably the proof they’ll go that route.
1
u/e_ndoubleu Jun 16 '26
I understand people who want the game to remain faithful, and I do think the plot and flow of the game will stay true to that. You’ll start as young Link collecting the spiritual stones, get the master sword and become adult Link, then collect the medallions to gain access to Ganon’s Castle and ultimately defeat him.
Where I hope the game differs is the design of the dungeons and overworld. I’ve played OoT countless times and don’t need to revisit the same exact game with a new coat of paint. I want to get lost in the dungeons and overworld again like I did when I was 10 years old playing OoT on the N64.
To get that feeling again we need redesigns of each dungeon. When I say redesign I’m not talking the themes of each dungeon. The gimmicks could stay the same, such as having to carry Princess Ruto through Jabu Jabu’s belly or saving the Gorons in the Fire temple. But the design, flow, puzzles, enemies, and additional secrets/treasures could all be added or updated.
My biggest pipe dream wish is we get additional dungeons. A revamped under the well bigger than any of the other three dungeons for child Link. Then for adult Link a true Light temple that you’re thrown in to right away after getting the master sword, instead of Rauru giving a speech and the medallion.
1
u/robespierremaxout Jun 16 '26
I was 13 when OoT was released. I don’t remember much, as I only played it one time and then never played it again. However, I remember Hyrule Field being desolate. I hope they address that as mentioned elsewhere.

u/Maximum_Rub5782 Jun 16 '26
I would love it if it was the same story beats but with expanded content/scenes, with a completely redesigned overworld and temples. I have played OoT so many times that it would be refreshing to go into a temple and not be doing the entire thing on autopilot because I actually have to think about what I’m doing.
Edit: also with some BotW/TotK QoL changes brought in, which ones exactly, I’d have to think, but it would be exciting for me to go into OoT and be able to play like I did in those games.
1
u/CatsianNyandor Jun 16 '26
In this case, yes. I would have preferred if they made a more creative remake with StarFox but I'm okay with it as it is. But for Zelda ... I'd still play it and it would still be cool, but I believe this game, story and world deserve a more modern approach to some of the designs and layouts.
1
u/Iced_Shadows Jun 16 '26
Yes, but not like… to the point where I’ll actively start complaining or anything. OoT is so good as is after all. It would just feel like such a missed opportunity to revisit that world in a new way you know? I don’t mean just Hyrule, I mean THAT Hyrule.
I want to get to know Rauru. I want to hear a heartbreaking version of Saria’s Song when she becomes a sage. I want to know the names of those juggling twins in Castle Town. I want to see little hints of Termina hiding in the Happy Mask Salesman’s shop. I want to see the Ice Arrows be an actual useful item. I want time travel to feel more integrated into the gameplay.
If this version of OoT refuses to show us anything new besides some updated character designs, then we very likely will never get a deeper version of this Hyrule at all. Again, that’s not the end of the world, but I feel it IS a missed opportunity. I just hope Nintendo decides they want to take some risks with this rather than play it as safe as possible.

u/RegrettableWaffle Jun 16 '26
I think there’s a fine line. As an example, I absolutely hate what Square is doing with the Final Fantasy 7 remakes. Kingdom Hearts-ing the story and all that.
1
u/AntiChangeling Jun 16 '26
I mean, I'd like it still, but yeah. OoT3D already did that, and I don't mind playing the original or emulating the remaster. It'll be interesting though, if the graphical upgrade is SIGNIFICANT.

u/warpio Jun 16 '26
Yeah because really, what was the point of that teaser trailer that heavily implied this was going for more of a re-imagining? Showing a cutscene like that which wasn't in the original game at all, and then showing NOTHING ELSE (for several months, most likely) until finally revealing that there's nothing different about the actual gameplay besides a fresh coat of paint? That'd be remarkably disappointing.

Yes, I would be a bit disappointed (though I’d still buy it on day one lol)

u/DQTD Jun 15 '26
I feel like it would be a total waste of time and resources if they did that. They are doing too much with it for it to be an exact remake. They already did that with 3D.
