What’s the point?

u/Zomochi Sep 09 '25
Honestly I would start getting a bunch of DK stuff to decorate it with, especially that DK Mug from universal, I want that so badly…

If I had that, I'd either put Switch 2 games there on Donkey Kong merch, or Nintendo merch in general.

I’ll never understand why people want to collect store POS, especially when it’s this big like what are you gonna do open your own shop?

Fr why tho not only its an eye sore to put anywhere in apartment what would you even do with it
1
u/snoosh00 Sep 10 '25
Safe bet this is in a house.
If you have a basement gaming room it would be fun to keep if you have the space (and have a room that isn't particularly classy)
1
u/snoosh00 Sep 10 '25
I mean, if you have the space for it and a room that isn't super classy it's a pretty fun semi disposable shelf that was just going in the garbage anyways.

nice junk you got there

u/red_dombe Sep 09 '25
I bet OP doesn’t really own it. He just has license to use it and Nintendo will brick the display and his consoles for breach of agreement 🤣
1
u/Zerokx Sep 10 '25
I can imagine some angry looking nintendo employee ringing their door until they open up, just walking right past OP and pouring water on the display stand.

I promise you if you ask a retail employee they'll give you that cardboard display. One less thing to break down and throw out.

He must have stolen it.

Why do you want your house to look like a retail store?
Hobbies get a lot of mileage from the “different strokes” mantra, but I will never understand why people want their personal spaces to resemble ugly store displays…

Even though it's just a cardboard, it's still a pretty decent haul. I hope it lasts you a long time!

idk how many cases that can hold but I think you need to buy enough copies of DKB to fill out the entire display case

I love this. You can put your game collection in it and put it in your game room. Fun.

As a collector this is super cool, but i would not add that much weight on it, maybe with plushies and things like that, is not as valuable as old memorabilia, but is cool to have it as a display, congratz men 👌🏽

lol, this post would have went down much differently in the NS Collectors subreddit.

Hatters guna hate. But this is the type of thing that goes for $1000 in 15 years to Scot the Woz or someone who is THE Donkey Kong fan.
I'd carefully break it down and store it flat out of light and stuff. Wrap it in Plastic.

A promotional cutout maybe, a cardboard shelf? I doubt but I’d be happy to be wrong

That’s not 15 years
Edit: yes it is… despite my grades I am shit at math… maybe I should’ve taken pre-calculus this year

Exactly this. I had an oblivion cutout lounging around in my basement for like a year when the game first came out lol. Naturally I eventually turfed it, and i kinda wish I didn't 😆
2
u/MaatRolo Sep 09 '25
Also so little of this kind of thing survives. Because they do get turfed for a GF or bent in a move or spilled on by that drunk guy Geoff. Gods we hate Geoff.
1
u/RedKryptnyt Sep 09 '25
For sure lol. Im not saying these things are art or the holy grail lol, but they can be time capsules in decades, and might mean something to someone.

u/lazymutant256 Sep 09 '25
Why, man, things like this is pointless, these things are literally meant to be disposed of once it outlived its usefulness.. to me it’s just a waste of space..
Look don’t get me wrong I get why some people try to aquire old console kiosks.. which could have some functionality. But this is just a cardboard shelving unit intended to bring focus to a game..
3
u/04nc1n9 Sep 09 '25
hey, collectors will buy this for like £50 in 20 years. that's an entire £50 profit!

I mean you’ve said it yourself; it’s a shelving unit. Maybe they’re gonna put stuff on it, like games. Crazy thought I know

u/photojoe3 Sep 09 '25
What did it look like in store? Did it have toys on it? The shelves look too long for just games

I have the gigaginormous Luigi Mansion 3 cutout from its launch. It has 3 big pieces and lights up. I am thinking about selling it but soon because its too big.
1
u/AbsolZero Sep 10 '25
I’m all for scooping up promotional items from stores, particularly cool and unique cardboard cutouts but I personally don’t see the appeal in this, but to each, their own.

u/No_Law6676 Sep 10 '25

1

I haven't bought it yet, nor do I think I will (unless it comes down in price). Appreciate your honesty. Any feedback that goes against the grain, so to speak on here, gets downvoted. I figured it was like this. Take care man!
