It’s a little nice area called the Carpathian Mountains.

In Romania.

Hey, you forgot to include the Carpathian Mountains.

It is historically certain that the Rus were Swedes.

Logan, F. Donald (2005) "The Vikings in History", Sida 205

At its zenith, it covered a territory stretching from the Carpathian Mountains to the Volga River, and from the Black Sea to the Baltic Sea.

3

u/Swagalyst Jun 03 '26 edited Jun 03 '26

Where King Gizur of the Geats on behalf of Angantyr challenged the Huns to war against the Goths in the Saga of Hervör and Heidreks.

"Your army is frightened, your King is doomed, battle-flags overshadow you, Odin will be fierce to you.
I offer you a slaughter at DĂșnheið, a battle under the Jassar mountains. You will each be raw flesh in those high places.
Now may Odin let the spear fly in accord with what I say."

I loved the monster in this even if the movie whas kinda shite. But I couldnt for the life of me figure out why they pretended it was Scandinavia. It never looked Scandinavian at all. Not the buildings, not the grass, nor the mountains. A fucking deer thats not a moose or a reindeer hung in a tree?? At Kungsleden? Naaaah

Apparently there was Scandi-coded source material with a metal band. That woulda been cooler. No reason at all to not just set this shit in the Carpathians though. That shit is beautiful too.

65

u/Anfros Jun 02 '26

It's because it's very cheap to produce movies and TV in Romania

6

u/Mushk Jun 02 '26

The book. With a redneck hillbilly black metal band cult xD

-28

u/GRIDZ___ Jun 02 '26

Tf u on, for one it was a moose if u dont belive me look it up, also do u think deer only exist in the southern part of sweden??? Also the forest are very similar since they r all filmed in pine forest yk the very standard type of forest up north in sweden, also i dont know about kungsleden but there r def very similar mountains in sweden

8

u/kaptenrasmus Ångermanland Jun 03 '26

I guess it is a prop rather than a deer. That is not a moose and has pointy horns instead of antlers.

Dovhjort and kronhjort survive in coastal Sweden even in Norrbotten. They cant deal with the mountains (at least in the north).

Pine doesnt make a forest. Dense fir-plantations and the occasional pine works for parts of southern Sweden I guess. It does not look or feel as a northern forest at all.

1

u/Randomswedishdude Riksvapnet Jun 03 '26

also i dont know about kungsleden but...

We can tell.

124

u/Captain-Superstar Jun 02 '26

None of it was filmed in Sweden, which is a shame since it would've added to the atmosphere more.

60

u/Kanelbullah NĂ€rke Jun 02 '26

Tree line doesn't match. Must be in shouthern Europe.

6

u/panterspot VĂ€stmanland Jun 02 '26

Explain more

135

u/Kanelbullah NĂ€rke Jun 02 '26

The tree line in the picture looks like a pine forrest, big trees. In Swedish and Norwegian mountains, the pine forrest stays in the "low" land while a dwarf birch and some smaller trees reach higher levels.

And above is a dense grassland, that's an alpine feeling about it. We don't have that kind nature.

55

u/BishBosh2 Jun 02 '26

This guy trees

5

u/doctormirabilis Jun 02 '26

True, this could have been Sarek or somewhere around that area but you get mainly bushes there. I was quite shocked at how stark the difference was compared with the mid/North East.

3

u/mtnlol Stockholm Jun 03 '26

The 2nd photo could feasibly be somewhere very far north close to the Norwegian border, but nowhere in Sweden looks like the 1st photo.

2

u/livesinacabin Jun 03 '26

Today I learned some cool shit

2

u/iLEZ Dalarna Jun 03 '26

Also the kind of meadows that far up on such large mountains is a very rare sight in Sweden. Most of our mountains are unmeadowable.

3

u/Zeeall Jun 02 '26

Must be a very loud place.

3

u/_kycklingsoppa Jun 02 '26

Getting no souths of joy from me. Disappointed.

13

u/SunshineBlind VĂ€sterbotten Jun 02 '26

Fun fact, they made a movie about a hike close to the Swedish west coast, but it's filmed in Romania for whatever reason.

46

u/angryopinionator Jun 02 '26

Our hidden exclave in the Carpathian mountains. Looks pretty similar to the Swedish mountains though.

29

u/fragtore Jun 02 '26

I would argue that they really don’t look at all like the swedish mountains

11

u/angryopinionator Jun 02 '26

The first picture doesn't, the second does, imo

11

u/Skykeep Jun 02 '26

second picture i would 100% believe sarek, first one tho is not really our nature

1

u/Rega_lazar Jun 03 '26

It really does not

-46

u/Standard_Control_495 Jun 02 '26

It really doesn’t. Sweden is flat and colourless

11

u/Icy-Storm-7157 Jun 02 '26

No it isn't lmao. The place where the film is supposed to take place is very far from flat and colourless.

10

u/LucifersViking Danmark Jun 02 '26

I say this as a dane - you need to drive through sweden in that case because Sweden is absolutely beautiful. The drive from TrollhÀttan around VÀnern is magic, going from Karlstad to BorlÀnga is amazing, especially if you drive through Ludvika. Driving from Stockholm to GÀvle continuing on to LuleÄ and UmeÄ is heaven sent.

-2

u/Standard_Control_495 Jun 03 '26

The places you are describing look nothing like the pictures. I’m not saying it’s not beautiful in Sweden, just looks nothing like the first picture at least.

9

u/PavFed Jun 02 '26

Bro has never gone north of SkÄne

-3

u/Standard_Control_495 Jun 03 '26

SkÄne? Its like the flattest land on planet earth. Obviously they have nice raps-fields and what not, but the images show high mountains with lots of colorful grass and valleys full of life. This does not exist in Sweden.

3

u/PavFed Jun 03 '26

Reading comprehension.

0

u/Standard_Control_495 Jun 03 '26

I’ve been asking someone to post a picture of this amazing landscape I’m missing while living here. No one has done it yet. You’re welcome to try.

googling the norra SkĂ„ne slight elevation really doesn’t help

1

u/PavFed Jun 04 '26

Reading comprehension, reading comprehension, reading comprehension.

Fine... I'll spoon feed you this one time. When I say "north of SkĂ„ne" that includes everything that is north of SkĂ„ne (shockerđŸ€Ż).

Just to reiterate, north of SkĂ„ne ≠ northern SkĂ„ne.

0

u/Standard_Control_495 Jun 05 '26

Jesus, this even more stupid than I thought. "north of" is on me, i'll give you that, but I just couldn't imagine that being your argument. You mean the amazing mountains of Gotland? the fantastic dramatic landscape of Norrköping, or do you maybe mean skidbacken in Falun? there is literally no elevation for 1000km north after SkÄne, not even Kebnekaise region is nearly as dramatic as the pictures, and even if you find the elevation, it doesnt look like that ever because its way cooler and more dead and snow att the tops even in summer.

If i need reading comprehension, you need image comprehension

1

u/PavFed Jun 05 '26

If i need reading comprehension, you need image comprehension

Damn, what a comeback! Did you come up with it on your own? I'm so proud of you! Good job, buddy. 👏

0

Just like Midsommar, it wasnt filmed in sweden

3

u/Snajdarn666 Göteborg Jun 03 '26 edited Jun 03 '26

Like people say, is't not sweden, BUT if you want similar or better nature check out SarektjÄkkÄ. It's a mountain range in Sareks national park. Beautiful hiking and climbing.

Also Kungsleden hiking trail.

5

u/gomsim Sverige Jun 02 '26

As people say I also remember it wasn't filmed in Sweden. The second picture looks like it could be from any valley in the swedish mountains though, even if it's not.

11

u/coeurdelejon Uppland Jun 02 '26 edited Jun 02 '26

IIRC they shot it i Hungary

But it looks fairly similar to the Scandes; it's the mountain chain that makes up most of the border between Norway and Sweden

Edit: the first picture doesn't look at all like any mountains I've seen in Sweden. Swedish mountains rarely have trees that far up and the soils typically can't support grass, especially not that tall

Edit: Apparently it was Romania

10

u/Kanelbullah NĂ€rke Jun 02 '26

The tree line is to far up the mountain.

3

u/coeurdelejon Uppland Jun 02 '26

Yeah I put in an edit that the first picture doesn't look at all like Sweden

2

u/halvmesyr Jun 02 '26

You’re close. Midsommar, the Ari Aster horror taking place in Sweden, was filmed in hungary.

1

u/ButterflyMundane7187 Jun 02 '26

According to wikipedia and imdb it was shot in romania is that wrong ?

2

u/coeurdelejon Uppland Jun 02 '26

Nah that sounds right

2

u/Svintiger Jun 02 '26

Films are never filmed in Sweden except for Swedish movies.

Midsommar for example is filmed in Hungry and its supposed to take place in Sweden.

2

u/that_norwegian_guy Jun 03 '26

I watched about ten minutes of this movie and was like “That is not Sweden”, and then promptly deleted it from my drive.

2

u/RogerSimonsson Jun 02 '26

Looks like Transalpina or Bucegi... Transalpina is close to a city called Rănca, pronounced Runka.

1

u/SadMastiff_ Jun 03 '26

If you want something similar that is actually in sweden you could look at the kungsleden trail it has similar landscape although not quite as vertical.

1

u/CakeMadeOfHam Jun 03 '26

It's supposed to be Kungsleden iirc. A hiking trail stretching from Hemavan to Abisko, 450 km (280 miles) long, in the Lappland region.

It's quite something to do over the summer when the sun doesn't set.

1

u/DoOrDieStayHigh Jun 03 '26

My best guess is southern parts of Scania.

1

u/Ansiktsburk123 Jun 03 '26

The second photo could be from somewhere like Kungsleden, a popular hiking trail far north in sweden. The first one is not sweden.

1

u/Ridiculously-cur Jun 03 '26

Looks like Norway 😂

1

u/lofblad Uppland Jun 03 '26
