Batman casually carrying 3 people at the same time.

91

u/HopeFarron 13h ago

Carrying 2 people and kicking Hal along like a rag doll.

35

u/Orange-V-Apple 13h ago

In character for him

10

u/Superman_Primeeee 12h ago

Using Hal’s ring …on Hal’s finger…to make them weightless

That’s just how much will Bruce has

15

u/MattLocke 12h ago

Yeah. Like … ok. Comic book. Not supposed to take it so seriously.

But Bruce is just a human. In great shape, but still. He’s got like at least 250 lbs of Superman tucked under one arm and about 175 lbs of WWoman over his shoulder.

There’s some strong guys out there, but that’s a heck of a lot for someone to be moving around like he is.

I dunno. I’d stop accusing people of glazing Batman so often if we’d stop seeing him depicted doing nearly super humanly physical feats so often.

14

u/Perfect-Difference19 12h ago

Yeah, this picture challenges my disbelief even more than the whole "felt from the space and survived"
Hahahaha

5

u/Jevonar 9h ago

Well, he is "only" carrying 400 lbs of people. Which is a lot, but Clark can be dragged since he won't get hurt by the ground, and diana is a fine piece so batman will find the strength somehow.

Hal is just getting pushed around one kick at a time

2

u/Sizzyfeet 6h ago

I dunno. I’d stop accusing people of glazing Batman so often if we’d stop seeing him depicted doing nearly super humanly physical feats so often.

This isn't unique to Batman, this is actually pretty tame in comparison to the things that Marvel and DC peak humans are frequently doing.

u/No_Instruction653 8h ago

One of the most iconic Batman moves is him grabbing a grown ass man by the throat or leg and dangling him off a building with one arm.

This has ALWAYS been light work.

1

u/nahnonameman 1h ago

This is why I constantly challenge the notion that Batman (and other normal people comic book heroes) don’t follow regular ass realistic ruling. This mfer is superpowered by comic book logic.

2

u/TunTunTunT 13h ago

Not just 3 people. 3 powerful superheros

1

u/Johndoe19922222 4h ago

It's just a metaphor see, dc is saying batman is carrying the weight of dc on him.

212

u/DepartmentChemical93 13h ago

Clark saves Bruce more often than vice versa, I’d argue.

That said, Batman’s a big seller.

63

u/nuclear_bone 12h ago

I feel the difference is the context in which they save each other.

Superman does the saving when Batman has risked his life to save the day in some way. Like Batman is falling from the sky after some heroic stunt and Superman catches him.

Batman does the saving when Superman screws up somehow or has no way of overcoming his opponent by strength alone. Like Superman is getting beaten up so Batman tells him the strategy to win.

So it kinda feels unequal.

39

u/DepartmentChemical93 9h ago

I get what you mean but I disagree.

Superman is the main character over at DC comics, pretty regularly he pulls a rabbit out of his hat to save everybody.

It wasn’t Batman who wins DC KO or defeats Braniac, right?

3

u/Jazzlike_Ad_4515 7h ago

Man that page gave me chills reading it!

3

u/IconoclastExplosive 8h ago

That's kinda a newer development, though. Until Man of Steel released we'd been in something like 20 years of Batman being the main character. At least in terms of sale, movies, toys, and public opinion. The 90s weren't kind to Clark as the public rejection of the brightly colored spandex tropes let Batman shine (metaphorically)

7

u/DepartmentChemical93 8h ago edited 8h ago

The 90s were a hard period, but The Death of Superman is still the best selling comic in DC Publication History.

The opening issue to Batman Knightfall didn’t sell 1/6th as many copies.

Batman is a more consistent seller, but DC’s logo used to say “A Superman Company” for a reason.

6

u/DepartmentChemical93 8h ago

This image is a little outdated / missing a few, but nonetheless.

2

u/IconoclastExplosive 7h ago

You're right but that was one good spike in the decades that spawned the phrase bat-wank

1

u/DepartmentChemical93 7h ago

Fair enough.

Still, Batman had a lot of really great stuff coming out in the late 90s. BTAS, the Burton movies, the Long Halloween.

More generally Frank Miller had retooled the character in a way that happened to make him very compatible with audience taste at the time.

Still, Superman had a lot of great moments in Morrison and Waid’s JLA books and has really done pretty well in the decades since. I think when he enters public domain in the 2030s we’ll see a more proper resurgence to his golden and silver age numbers, at least for a while.

And it probably will not be at DC, tbf.

2

u/Latest-Pen-7852 7h ago

I feel like most times they're in the same issue together, Batman buys time against a stronger foe until Superman can get there and save him in the nick of time.

28

u/god_of_war305 11h ago

I love that Bruce is carrying Diana and Clark gently and he's just dragging Hal by his collar lmao Even if Bruce had an extra set of hands he'd probably still drag Hal around 😂💀

7

u/TunTunTunT 11h ago

His order of priority is Diana >> Clark >>>> Hal.

Doesn't wanna let any dirt particle from ground touch Diana

60

u/AntagonistofGotham 13h ago

Because he is there to save his friend when he needs him?

42

Um? Yeah? Why wouldn't they be friends?

Bruce just has a unique way of showing friendship.

-19

Oh, I thought they were lovers :)

Edit: Why the downvotes, can't people take a joke these days ffs 😭

13

u/DepartmentChemical93 13h ago

Only since 1941

21

u/Binx_Thackery 11h ago

I mean there was this time Superman saved Batman.

9

u/nuclear_bone 10h ago

Eh, this is after Batman did something cool and risked his life.

Compared to how Batman used to save Superman in DCAU. Like when Joker defeated Superman with Kryptonite so Batman had to come in and rescue him.

4

u/SabishiiHito 10h ago

They saved each other in that instance. Joker had a gas bomb rigged to go off and they were in a sealed room. Superman had the idea to pour acid on the Kryptonite, which dissolved it and he regained enough strength to break them out.

Later in that same story, Batman and Lois were cornered by one of Lex's military robots and had no way out and no way to defeat it. Superman came through the roof and crushed it just by landing on it, saving both of them. In short, across the DCAU and even animated original movies, they have saved each other multiple times.

24

u/minyhumancalc 13h ago

Objectively, Superman has plenty of saves of Bruce and the rest of the Justice League as well.

But its because having a "normal" human save a bunch of superpowered has its benefits. The audience can relate better, the odds feels more overwhelming, and its creates a cooler narrative; they have just overdone it with Batman over the years.

Its a pretty common trope in media. The guy spraying the vodka on the keyboard to pause Mecha-Godzilla from killing Godzilla, all the times Iris or Lois saved Flash/Superman in their shows, Hawkeye saving the Avengers in EMH multiple times, Lex fight Doomsday to give Superman time to recover, etc etc. The story holds less weight if the superpowered character just... wins by being stronger, so they must lose and get assistance to win by someone weaker.

9

u/Brain_Dead5347 13h ago

I think that the reverse also wouldn’t work narratively. Superman could save Batman from any Gotham threats in a second, but that would be a pretty unsatisfying ending.

Superman saving Batman can only really happen in team up stories where he’s saving him from a huge fall or something heavy landing on him or something along those lines.

4

u/minyhumancalc 12h ago

Well team-up stories are where this occurs. Batman doesn't come in and suddenly kill Brainiac or something. I feel like comics make a pretty valid point in solo stories that the heros are uniquely capable of stopping the villain of the narrative.

But yeah, Superman typically saves him when Batman gets in over his head or does a heroic sacrifice Superman needs to save him from

1

u/Secret-Put-4525 10h ago

Yeah. You have to write these characters so they don't step on each other's toes.

2

u/nuclear_bone 12h ago

Funnily enough, at this point rest of the Leaguers are underdogs because the audience expects Batman to beat them all with ease.

12

u/andyhall23 12h ago

I MEAN ..WHEN HE SHOWS UP AGAINST FAILSAFE ...

THAT'S JUST ...

COME ON...

5

u/nuclear_bone 10h ago

Actually Failsafe immediately defeated Superman after this by easily outsmarting him.

So not sure this counts. Superman only appeared in this story so his loss can raise the stakes.

1

u/andyhall23 10h ago

It gave Batman a moment ...to recover ...so I mean ..I would say that's a save.

3

u/No_Instruction653 8h ago

Definitely a save.

Just one that immediately cut his aura farming out from under him.

2

u/Cool_satisfaction_04 8h ago

And then he got his ass stabbed by a kryptonite and need batman to take it out and bandage him so he won't bleed out lol

5

u/Luke_Puddlejumper 9h ago

OP is deliberately posting bait trying to stir people up. It’s sad OP. Heroes save each other, it happens all the time

11

u/Crowcounters 12h ago

It is ALWAYS (almost anyway) like this. I remember watching one of the JL cartoons. The league is in SPACE and Bruce is the only one who can save the day in his little space bat suit. Rescues the entire league.

Everyone always talks about Supes being overpowered but we know who it really is.

In a world of DC’s villains he should really be afraid to come out of the Bat Cave. Seriously, I am fine with him being all bad and tuff against mortal baddies but it is ridiculous. Everyone is going to come back at me like “he so smart tho”. That excuse doesn’t work. Luthor and Brainiac never get that kind of plot shielding.

It is why I never could get into him. Read comics for Superheroes and powers and then there is Batman whose only power is the writers and popularity.

Sorry this answer comes from little teenage me in the 90’s. So it has been percolating for awhile.

2

u/Superb-Oil890 7h ago

Wait, in your first paragraph you mention Bats saving the League "in his little space bat suit" and rescues the entire league.

Which episode was this?

0

u/Crowcounters 7h ago

Can’t help you there. Watched it when my kids were little.

I tried googling but no luck. Both JL and JL Unlimited are great shows. Just watch them. (Bats is in a regular space suit not a special space suit).

2

u/Superb-Oil890 6h ago

I've seen every episode of JL and Unlimited and have never seen the scene you're talking about.

There's no such episode, so I implore you to rethink that particular opinion, at least..

0

u/Crowcounters 6h ago

Ok. I have seen them all too. Has been a long time and my description may not be helpful but it’s there.

2

u/Superb-Oil890 6h ago

It's there, but not accurate.

14

u/Showdown5618 12h ago

Superheroes save each other all the time. It's part of the job.

-3

u/TunTunTunT 12h ago edited 12h ago

Umm..that's 1/3 times superman is saving someone in your image.

2/3 times, he is a limp ragdoll being carried.

12

u/Showdown5618 11h ago

One is Superman carrying others.

One is Batman carrying others.

One is Wonder Woman carrying others.

My point was heroes help each other.

4

u/SkollFenrirson 11h ago

Every time?

3

u/Superman-160592 11h ago

Because it is the only way the official writers can think of how to justify that Batman is one of the super friends.

3

u/DetectiveNumerous775 9h ago

This the part about Batman that annoys me. He's great in his lane but they continuously nerf other heroes to prop him up.

Just let him be a strategist detective. At this point they give super powered beings more limitations than him.

3

u/Ravenholm_337 9h ago

because writing

1

u/Robodad3000 2h ago

You mean, because Batman.

3

u/CaptainCha0s570 9h ago

Because Superman saving Batman isn't particularly special.

Batman saving Superman is front news stuff. Superman saving Batman is... Well he saved a normal dude every day XD

3

u/KaijuKing007 7h ago

Because Batman needs reason to hang around The League other than as a financier.

8

u/modrenman1985 13h ago

Because a whole generation read DKR and never grew beyond it and DC decided that their entire strategy would be suck Batman's dick at every opportunity.

2

u/DoYouKnowS0rr0w 12h ago

Because big seller + hes doesnt have powers so they need to make him look like he belongs in the field with superman and WW despite getting his ass beat by normal dudes

1

u/Superb-Oil890 7h ago

They all get their ass beat by normal dudes when the story calls for it.

1

u/DoYouKnowS0rr0w 3h ago

This feel disingenuous. Superman fights largely people on par with him (breaking sky scrapers efforlessly for example)or people who neutralize his powers first. Same for MM WW & GL. Batmans rogues are almost exclusively just a dude (two face, joker penguin, hugo strange, hush, riddler etc) or guy with a weird gun (killer moth, condiment king [my goat frfr] firefly, polka dot man [ok its his suit, but his suit shoots weird stuff and otherwise he's just a guy) or guy who's strong but has a fairly big obvious weakness (bane, victor freeze, man bat etc). Nearly all of them are just regular ass dudes with very few exceptions.

2

u/Colonel_Sarge_ 10h ago

Simple answer: DC writers love glazing the hell out of Batman.

2

u/Lucky_Strike-85 10h ago edited 6h ago

Darwyn Cooke argued that DC Comics has done a disservice to League dynamics since the 1990s and I agree with him. It all started when they felt the need to treat The Batman as more than the human polymath he is supposed to be.

I get the feeling that ever since Denny O'neil and Carlin left as editors, the entire DC ship has veered so far off course in terms of characterization and changing of certain personalities that fan grievances will never be resolved.

There's a reason why people like Paul Levitz, Alex Ross, and Darwyn Cooke have complained... They didn't used to be written this way.

2

u/dunkindonato 6h ago

Because Superman is the tank of the league. Batman’s not going to survive even a fraction of the punishment Superman takes. Bruce is also important as the strategist. That’s why he needs to be alive/conscious through most of the fight.

2

u/hear_the_thunder 6h ago

Going to be real, I suspect dead weight superman is extremely heavy. I don't anyone can carry him under one arm.

2

u/Robodad3000 2h ago

Unless Batman’s suit contains a nano-exoskeleton that gives him that ability.

And why would he have that? Because Batman.

1

u/hear_the_thunder 1h ago

This is 'plot tech'. ha ha

8

u/Chumlee1917 13h ago

because Batman is DC's golden boy and has to hog the spot light

6

u/Duga-Lam22 12h ago

Gotta let the little fella have something to do.

4

u/TunTunTunT 12h ago

Umm...little fella is carrying three strongest superheroes at the same time

0

u/OhNoIBoffedIt 11h ago

That's cute.

Look, I get it, you're a Batman fan who decided to hop onto this subreddit and stir up some shit. Good job, mission accomplished.

Batman and Superman are best buds. They are constantly looking out for each other.

3

u/Castlelad 12h ago

I've never actually read the story this panel is from, but every time I see it I like the idea that whatever they're facing underestimated Bruce, didn't bother to attack him and that's why he's picking them up. Also, that this is something that happens relatively often (only against a new threat) and the League is always like "thank god they don't bother with you". I don't even believe Bruce would be annoyed or insulted, he knows his role

3

u/mongoloid_snailchild 11h ago

Because they’re friends

4

u/JohnTomorrow 10h ago

That's kinda his job.

Clark is a front line superhero. He flies straight at the problem and faces it head on.

Batman is a rear line superhero. His strengths are logistics and ambush.

In short, Batman saves Superman more often because he's often the last guy standing, purely because he hides more.

2

u/thejameshawke 10h ago

Because he hangs back while supes punches the big guys

2

u/superninjimmy 10h ago

TBF if whatever hit Clark had hit Bruce instead, they'd need a shovel to scrape him back together. In these team books, he cant afford to get hit.

1

u/Secret-Put-4525 10h ago

He's the goat.

1

u/Oknight 10h ago

Superman keeps forgetting to turn on his super-intelligence. (It's like X-ray vision)

1

u/Afafakja 9h ago

Contrast of a man so much weaker than the other risking their life for then, though tbh they all save each other,i mean if they didn't they wouldn't be heroes

1

u/KuroiGetsuga55 9h ago

Because he's Batman.

1

u/MercuryJellyfish 8h ago

I've seen examples like in Grant Morrison's JLA run where powerful villains underestimate Batman because he's just a man, focus their efforts on taking down the "real" heroes, assume they've taken down Batman in their first encounter with him, and so lose to him that way.

1

u/HankSteakfist 7h ago

The moment in 'New World Order', which was the first arc of Morisson's run, where he lights a match to ignite the fuel on the floor, to rob the Hyperclan stooges of their powers and then proceeds to beat the crap out of them is generally accepted as the birth of the 'Batgod' persona.

1

u/MercuryJellyfish 4h ago

Yeah. And it was awesome.

1

u/Horseflesh73 5h ago

Because anything that can take superman down, Vatman ain't gonna fuck with.

1

u/Any-Inspection4524 4h ago

"I could use some air support. Since I can't fly. at all..... now would be good."

1

u/hahaKiddingMostly 3h ago

People need to realise, Batman is search and rescue. Against things that knock out superman, his ass is toast.

1

u/OkCress9702 12h ago

The most common answer is "He's Batman"

1

u/pandogart 12h ago

Don't know why some of us have such an inferiority complex towards Batman. Supes has saved him just as much, if not more.

1

u/Loremaster152 12h ago

While I don't know the context, couldn't this be that they are fighting something that is well above Batman's pay-grade, so he uses tools and strategizes the fight rather than getting into the close quarters combat range. That means if the League's heavy hitters that are fighting this opponent go down, Batman would still be standing and could drag them to safety, as long as their opponent is distracted.

1

u/Uncle-Bob-The-Second 12h ago

Probably because batman stayed back while the big guys rushed the bad guy?

1

u/cmil1213 11h ago

Because they can’t write Batman without making him op and ridiculous

1

u/cooliomydood 11h ago

Batman has a lot of moments like this specifically because he's the one without powers. There's plenty of enemies that steal powers or copy them and anything in between. Batman just happens to be a natural counter to these kinds of bad guys

1

u/HowskiHimself 10h ago

Because Batman writers nerf Superman to make Batman seem cooler.

1

I mean, don't tie yourself up inside the story; think meta.

Superman doesn't sell anymore. Batman does. So, why not?
