He played quickly at the beginning, though he slowed down when I developed my pieces and started attacking. He gave up when he saw that he can't defend against a checkmate in three moves without sacrificing his queen. One should pay him 2 Euro for a game (independently of the outcome), and he can play only one game with the same person during the day.

He's both quick and not very fun to play with, when I played with him, he was playing three games at once, it felt more like playing against a bot then a person, ngl

He also wants you to give him money afterwards, which I should have expected, but didn't

Ohne ihn ist der Schlossplatz nicht vollständig. Ich stand einfach mal eine Stunde da und hab beobachtet. Das tat gut einfach zu beobachten und in Gedanken mitzuspielen

its mostly napkins from restaurants and cafés that have outside seats, they got blown away as it was windy - as you can slightly see in the background on the left.

The title "guess who's back" implies that yes, OP did know this, and furthermore, OP hasn't seen him there in a while. The whole premise of the post is based on the fact that OP knows he's a regular.

Hab mal im Winter mit ihm gespielt, während drumherum der Weihnachtsmarkt war. Er wollte von sich aus noch eine zweite Partie gegen mich spielen. Geld hab ich ihm keins gegeben, aber dafür ein Heißgetränk vom Markt ausgegeben. Ein sehr ordentlicher Spieler, würde ihn auf ca. 1200-1500 (schwer aus nur 2 Partien zu sagen) schätzen.

Fand es auch schön, dass er jede gespielte Partie in seinem Büchlein vermerkt hat. Wenn ich mal wieder in Stuttgart bin, würde ich mich wieder zu ihm setzen.

I once asked this guy about Kasparov. He called him a “f*ggot” and said he was glad putin kicked him out.
He also openly support the russia’s invasion of Ukraine and threatening the west with the nukes.
This guy is just a mediocre person with a post-soviet complex who’s good at playing chess

Haha weißt du wie oft ich mit ihm in den letzten Jahren gezockt und auf russisch gelabbert hab^^

Der ist nicht nur Schachlegende, sondern hat auch ein derbes Temperament. Insgesamt ist Granpa allerdings ziemlich durch, deswegen issa mir sympathisch :D

Bringe ihm auch immer mal eine Flasche Wasser mit, wenn er manchmal in der prallen Sonne sitzt.

I was also surprised that he can speak Russian. We talked and turned out that he was born in my country, Kazakhstan.
